The condo was clean and comfortable. Just a few steps from the ocean. There are many places to eat within walking distance. Our only complaint was that the pool and spa were closed for repair and we did not know that. The owner was very helpful in responding to this issue.
The room was warm and muggy ẅhen we arrived. The unit has two a/c units. The master bedroom unit worked well, but the living room unit seemed to struggle to cool and it would turn off before the room was cooled to the set tempetaure. The second bedroom didn't cool, we had to set up two fans to blow cool air toward that bedroom. The unit and some bedding (quilts) had an odd smell. It only had one beach chair. The beach was very close (30 yards], that was nice. The outside a/c unit is located on the small patio, the warm exhaust from that blows on you when sitting on the patio, ouch! We enjoyed our stay, but I would stay elsewhere the next time i return to Hawaii.
Owner of this VRBO was very responsive. The Condo was clean, functional, and on the beach. Directions to the place and instructions to get a key were easy to follow. Kapa’a is perfectly touristy with lots of beaches, markets, stores, and places to rent bikes etc. Air conditioners worked. The condo is only 15-20 min from the airport, so total commute time was minimal. Overall this was a great trip for my group of 3 adults and one 13 year old boy.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this property at Pono Kai. The location of this property is why we continue to stay here. The condo was located right on the beach and close to the everything. The condo was furnished with everything we needed, including Morey Boogie Board and fins to use while visiting the beach. This was my first rental experience from a private owner and everything went pretty smoothly during check in. The only thing to keep in mind is that because the unit is privately owned, Pono Kai will not let you check out beach towels to use. However, the unit does have beach towels for the renters to use. The AC in the unit was fantastic and gave us wonderful relief from the heat during the warm days. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Property was as advertised, beachfront with great views. Perfect Kauai location, stores and restaurants within walking distance. The host was extremely kind and helpful.

This was our first time to Kauai as a family and were so relieved to find our condo was so centrally located, peaceful, well maintained and comfortable. We felt at home right when we walked in the door and loved all the amenities that the complex offered. To wake up to beautiful sunrises pretty much every morning was so special! Got an amazing view of the full moon as well! Great space for our family of four!

Just imagine walking into your condo, pulling back the curtains from wall to wall and all you see beautiful palm trees and the ocean surf, this view will take your breath away. You could not ask for a better location. This condo is just steps from the beach and located 30 min from Poipu and Hanalei, what more can you ask for. We had a great time and would give it 10 stars. All the pictures are accurate in the listing.
This 2 bedroom/2 bath unit had everything we needed for our perfect stay. The kitchen is outfitted almost perfectly with even a hot pot to make tea water, crock pot. Our only suggestion would be for a pizza pan and cutter. (No big deal.). What really set this place apart from the rest is the full compliment of masks, fins, snorkel, 3 boogie boards, beach towels, beach mats, beach umbrella and even a beach chair. The location was excellent for a family with Mexican, Thai, Greek, Shave Ice, Smoothies, Cafes. All at reasonable prices. Best of all, this is a ground floor unit that opens to the lawn, bicycle path then beach. Sunrises were great! We hope to return next year.
Our family stayed here on our visit. The location is perfect. You can walk to town if needed, close to restaurants, bakery, etc. The little beach in front of the property is often empty. It feels like you have your own private piece of paradise. The bike/walking path is fabulous! There’s a bike rental place nearby and my teens loved riding along this pathway. The condo is clean and well stocked with dishes and pans. There’s also pool towels and other beach items there to borrow. We had a hiccup at check-in and the owner called me back right away and fixed it promptly. We had a great time here and would highly recommend.
We rented the place for a week. When we walked in, the place was absolutely gorgeous. The view was stunning. Extremely easy to check in. Two good size bedroom. Alice was always available to answer any questions that we might had. The place was as described on the website. The only down fall had nothing to do with the condo. The place is located on a resort and we tried to get some help from the concierge a few time however he was not really pleased or even friendly to us since it is a private own place on the resort. We did have access to the pool, hot tub, gym and activities on the resort. I would recommend the place to anyone who would like to have a beautiful view. Walking distance to downtown. For our group of people, the place was a 5 stars for sure.Thank you for the memories
We loved our stay here. Located right in front of the beach and right next to some shops, restaurants, and food trucks. Bike/walk path steps from the patio door which lines Kapa’a. The beach in front of the condo is absolutely a fine beach. You’ll read some criticism about questionable characters, trash/debris, or rougher waves…but especially our last day the kids swam there, made sand castles, and I did collect a bag of debris (plastic parts from ocean debris) because we are visitors on this island! However, the beach is not “gross” or anything like that. Beautiful blue water. Host was very communicative. Pono Kai has a small pool and other activities…but it’s not a bustling resort feel which we preferred. Quiet and easy going. Great location too to explore the island. Closet had snorkel gear, beach towels, sand toys, umbrella and more. Great stay!!
This was our third stay at Pono Kai and our favorite condo so far. We like to be oceanfront on the ground floor and this unit is just steps from the walking path and the ocean. We spent many hours enjoying the lanai and went for long walks on the path every day. Perfectly situated for watching the sunrise. The unit was clean and nicely furnished. We had everything we needed. The owner is friendly and easy to communicate with. We already booked our return trip next year.
This location is perfect for exploring both ends of the island. Easy drive to the north and while a little farther south it is still not a bad drive. The complex we stayed in was quiet and is located right next to a great walking biking path. While on our walks every morning we would see monk seals, and occasionally dolphins and many whales. Sunrises were amazing. There are many amenities such as: pool, exercise room, and two pickleball courts that were hardly used. You are within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Although the laundry is not in the unit it is located just a few steps away. The host was easy to work with and very responsive. I would stay here again.

This unit is located in a lovely, well maintained resort in Kapa'a. We had no issues with the unit, although we felt some of the furnishings could be a little more comfortable. Lovely view from lanai, nice to have the walking trail as well. Overall would definitely recommend!
The unit is in a very convenient location with direct access to beach and easy walking distance to food/shopping. Plenty of trash bags, paper towels and toilet paper to last the entire week stay. Random condiments and pantry items left in kitchen (we did not use but someone may appreciate it). Beach equipment and beach towels available in unit. The grounds of the resort (Pono Kai) were great! Tons of games, walking paths, grills and fire pits. There was only one key for the unit which wasn’t a huge deal but there was another couple with us so we had to coordinate plans in order to keep unit locked. Condo was tidy and somewhat clean but could certainly use a deep clean. The bathtubs appeared to have not been scrubbed in a long time. Would not be comfortable putting a child in them to bathe. There are a ton of fans which we loved in the spare room with no A/C. Guest book with recommendations was a nice touch.
Love the location but the place needs updates. I paid for a place with AC and the AC didn’t work when we got there. We were without AC for3 days and it was miserable. I feel the price I paid was too high for all problems we had. Won’t be staying here again.
We sincerely loved our stay at Pono Kai. It was the perfect location and accommodation for our family. We loved being steps from the beach and enjoyed the spectacular sunrises most mornings. We loved the central location of Kapa’a, which made it easy to get to either side of the island without too much travel time. The condo was clean and comfortable, had AC and many fans to keep us cool, and had spectacular views of the ocean. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone!
This clean and comfortable condo is in a great location with beautiful ocean views. Being located on the east side of Kauai gave us a good location for exploring the other regions easily.
The listing and photos are an accurate depiction. While we didn't need the air conditioning most of the time, it was very nice to have.
The complex has great amenities and is about a 20-minute drive to the airport.

Very nice condo, kitchen had more than enough supplies as well as outdoor equipment for sitting ocean side. However, only reason not five stars is the bed on one side is pretty sunken. Perhaps flip mattress?
We have stayed at pono Kai several times snd really enjoy closeness to town, and relaxed atmosphere of the area.

We really liked this property’s location, close to Kapa’a (walkable) and the Pacific shore. The owner was responsive to a minor question about a tv problem and the property was in good condition. We would rent it again, and Kauai is beautiful!
