We had to cancel our reservations. Here’s why:
1. The unit had a major plumbing leak which led to standing sewage water underneath the stove and dishwasher.
2. There was no base at the bottom of the stove which was how we were able to notice the sewage water and leak.
3. There were exposed electrical wires underneath dishwasher sitting lying in the water.
4. Owners claimed to have no idea despite their unit being on the market to sell.
5. Sewage flies all over the room.
6. The smell of the unit was musty and just awful.
Overall, the property is absolutely beautiful. We love it at Papakea and we were so disappointed this happened to us. VRBO did a great job helping us with this issue. The owners do not have a property manager, rather they only have “handymen” which turned out to be a husband and wife. We spent hours on the phone with VRBO, and emailing the resolution team to resolve the issue. The owners finally admitted the kitchen needs to be restored, which should include the kitchen cabinets. We had to find different accommodations and are currently awaiting reimbursement for the night we were still checked in at papakea but had to move.
Ive stayed at Papakea many times, this unit smelled horribly of cigarettes, roaches in the drawers, it was clean, but the smell was tough to get past.
This unit and Papakea were a perefect setting for us for our vacation on Maui. This was not our first visit to this resort and we are delighted that the grounds and facilities are maintained and updated for our enjoyment. This unit was exactly as described; great ground floor location and very well equipped. We hope to return soon.
My family was fortunate to pull together all my six children, 10 of my 11 grandchildren, my former wife, my current wife, a mother-in-law, three husbands of my daughters, and three significant others. We were able to get a local photographer to take pictures of us at a local beach. We toured and ate out at a lot of popular restaurants. At night time, we had putting contests. I used the barbecue to cook several meals, also. We have lots of memories to share.
Only concern was that there were a lot of fruit flies in our unit. Did not experience that in the 4 other units our family stayed in.
Clean private and nice beaches close by
Very quiet and safe area. Walking distance to supermarket, food, shopping. Nice staff in the office. Plenty of parking.
The Condo was well stocked with everything you would need...The photos accurately displayed the unit... Had a wonderful stay here with no issues at all... Would definitely stay again...
We had a great week in Maui. Connie and Dave were awesome to work with. Easy communication. The condo was as described. Great location. Easy access to grocery stores and food choices. We walked many times for places to eat. Restaurants across the street and to the right of the resort were a variety of food trucks. We saw whales every day of our stay and were lucky enough to have monk seals playing right in front of us one late afternoon, and sea turtles swim by. Highly recommend
We had a wonderful stay. The condo was beautifully decorated and very well stocked. The location has a really nice tropical breeze and being first floor is extremely convenient.
We very much enjoyed the resort. The check-in process was easy even when we arrived late at night. Pools, BBQs and grounds of resort are very well kept. We participated in the lei making offered there and took morning walks along the beach next to the property. As for the unit, the owner was very accommodating and quick to reply. They offered great advice about what to do in the area and great direction about the property and Maui for a first time guest. The unit was outdated compared to many other units our friends had stayed in while we were there. My only suggestion would be to offer more than 6 place settings/cutlery, we found we were doing dishes constantly. There were also tons of fruit flies in the bathroom shower/sink area and around the kitchen sink.
Papakea Resort was so much nicer than we anticipated. The people are super friendly. Beautiful property and great location. We felt very comfortable in Connie’s condo. The king size bed was so comfortable! Would definitely stay here again !
I like having a real kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator. Having the ABC store in front which serves hot food was also nice. The area is clean and well kept.
Advertising an ocean front view was deseiving. There are also several hidden fees, $150 cleaning fee, $60 service fee, $17 day resort fee.I didn't like having the AC in the front unit and having to use fans to guide the cooler air to the bedroom was frustrating.
My partner and I had a great stay here! The unit had everything we needed and really appreciated the extras such as beach chairs, cooler, umbrellas, beach towels, etc. The unit was clean. The air conditioning was great to have! The owner was easy to communicate with and was quick with replies. The property was beautiful and well maintained, quiet and relaxing, and not so busy that you had to fight for lawn chairs. The beach out front was swimmable with some snorkeling as well. Wonderful stay and would 100% go back.
