We love staying at Hale Kona Kai, and have done so for many years, including in this same unit about ten or so years ago. I was a little disappointed in the lack of updates made in that time, but the condo was sufficient for our needs, and made up for it in proximity to the things we like to do. I would suggest replacing the dishwasher, and maybe repainting. The refrigerator and stove are fine and I really appreciated the working ice maker. The flooring looks great, but there are a lot of places that need repair where the baseboards attach. When we arrived, there was a distinct mustiness that was difficult to dispel. We purchased a couple of candles and a lighter which helped, but didn't alleviate the problem. We left them in the unit when we returned home. Probably the worst offender was the air conditioning unit. It was out of order for one day, which we were notified about, but even when it was supposedly fixed, it did not work well. The portable A/C in the bedroom was the only way we were able to sleep, and even with that and the ceiling fan, the room wasn't really cool enough for this post menopausal woman. Fortunately, we like to be out and about in the day, so other than a couple of days that I was feeling unwell, we were able to avoid being in the too hot condo.
Upon entering the condo, there is a strong mildew smell. There is no central air conditioning as advertised, just fans and a loud standing air conditioner in the bedroom. There were so many gnats it was impossible to brush one’s teeth without them flying in the sink. The whole place needs to be updated. I would not recommend.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION Spent all spare time on Lanai. Gorgeous sunsets, and the drama of the ocean. Only issue wasno AC after I checked ahead of time to ensure ac would be working. Bed too firm for my taste. Fully furnished. Wonderful management. Will be back
313 is our favorite unit. Very tired now. Great location
We’ve been here numerous times. Excellent location and amenities are very good. Just needs repairs around door and sliding windows as chips of plastic/paint are on floor where it is peeling off. Also, sink in bathroom cant be filled and is needed for shaving and soaking dive computers. Also, no place to hang wet bathing suits outside like there was in the past. Also, I did not get a message back to see if we could check in early. Otherwise, paradise!
The unit has a great location and the lanai overlooking the ocean is fantastic. The unit is in need of repair work One can see light from all sides of the front door. The unit smelled of mildew. The couch and love seat sagged badly if one tried to sit on them. The window facing the ocean needs to be replaced as the frame is cracked. The bedroom also smelled of mildew. They used a queen sized top sheet on a king mattress. The bathroom was ok although the shower door should have it's caulk stripped and replaced. We had an early flight out and the shower water temperature was way to hot. I theorize earlier in the week we showered later in the morning and enough hot water had been used to lower it's temperature. While a great location, we would not stay here again.
This was just what we were looking for. A nice lanai right on the water. The set up made the lanai very private. The bonus was we didn’t have to drive to town in the traffic, very easy walk. After a long flight in it was nice not to have to worry about coffee or filters or all the little extras that they supplied for us. We even noticed that people left some of their kitchen supplies behind,so there were extras of things in the kitchen also. Also, it had the best water pressure in the shower we’ve ever had! The only con is it is a little worn, but hey, it is a rental property if you’re looking for a five star fancy place this might not be for you. We will be back.
It's a nIce area and we do love it there. The condo is starting to show it's age. For the high/increased cost of rent, improvements should be made:damaged moldings around front door and under windows fixed, walls & under furniture cleaned, sheets should be newer and thicker, new pillows, sliding screen should actually slide, coffee pot base very corroded, a few more area rugs would be nice by bed and shower, and the A/C seemed over-taxed or weak.I know the cleaning folks need time to come in, but paying a full day for a unit you can't get into until 4pm and must leave by 10:am seems reason for a reduced charge. Also, if a unit does not have room for it's own washer/dryer, then the ones provided down the hall should be free (and upgraded to more modern machines). Thank you for your time.
All was clean and all went well.
I recently stayed at Hale Kona Kai with my husband and wanted to share our experience to prevent future renters from encountering what we did and prompt changes. We encountered a serious issue with bed bugs and ended up with bites all over our arms and legs. The rental company continues to deny the incident and told us we had an allergic reaction action, ultimately forcing us to go to our doctor once we arrived home only to have our doctor confirm we were both infested with bed bugs. This can be backed up with pictures of the bites on our bodies. Not only did we have to spend our last days on our vacation inspecting the couch, bed and washing all of our clothes, we were forced to book additional accommodations not knowing whether we would be spreading bed bugs in the process. Since our return home, we spent over a week washing and bagging clothing, steaming luggage, contacting our doctor(s), lawyers and trying to determine how we were allowed to stay in such unhygienic accommodations. The rental company/hosts continue to deny the bed bug nightmare we encountered. Unfortunately, after staying at Hale Kona Kai for 6+ years, we will never stay there again given the blatant disregard for hygiene and renter safety and will continue to pursue legal action as a result of our experience.
Great location, easy to get to everything at the Kona waterfront. Could sit on lanai and listen to surf while watching fish jump in the ocean. On Sunday they had an ocean swim with hundreds of swimmers right in front of the unit. Was awesome to watch.
We throughly enjoyed our stay. There was a slight issue with our reservation and Ryan was very quick to notify us and review our options. The condo, E22, was well stocked with virtually everything we needed for our stay.
We got this condo because the original condo we booked was not available due to construction issues. We were concerned it would not be as good but were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The bed was a tiny bit uncomfortable but otherwise the place was great! It looked directly over the ocean and pool, very good view. I liked that they had washing machines on each floor, but finding quarters to run them was very difficult! Overall great place to stay and I’d go here again.
A quiet condo yet still close to the action. So many restaurants and shops within walking distance and amazing sunset views on the balcony.
We loved our stay here❤️ Loved waking up and having breakfast out on the Lanai. The view is incredible !! The Kona coast did not disappoint . We saw sea turtles, tropical fish and in the evening beautiful sunsets. The rental had beach chairs we could use so that was helpful as well. The place is older but really after we ate breakfast we were out and about all day and it had a great AC that kept the place nice and cool. We will be coming back and staying here when we do🌺
Great location. Could use updating.
Locationa is fabulous. Decor is dated. Bed was comfortable. Kitchen had all we needed. Property is dated. Needs paint. Air conditioner worked great. Security was fair. Car was rifeled one night. We will return but its not five star. Still perfect for us. Price abt 15% high based on whats available BUT its only place like it. YMMV!
We were not able to get the ceiling fan on in the middle of the room it looks like an older model not a crisis but would have been nice. And I want to come back
