As we fell in love with the property and each other, we knew we wanted to keep this special place within our family and share its unique allure with others. I'll list them. 1- NO internet and the owner blamed our laptop which worked at several locations in the Hilo area (i.e. Volcano House Hotel, McDonald's, City Library etc. 2- Living, Dining, Kitchen rooms etc. have NO A/C and you cannot open any windows or the Japanese slide panels (they are locked, the locks don't work & some are nailed shut. Interior very hot with no air circulation). 3- Master bath shower which steps down three steps has NO safety railing, so if you slip and fall you hit tile wall & floor. Safety violation! 4- Pool was dirty and was not cleaned until the 3rd day of our stay. The pool deck had buckled screws protruding above the boards in numerous places. 5- Numerous lights had burned out light bulbs. Note: the bedrooms do have air conditioning and the beds were comfortable. Our cost was almost $400 a night. This stay would be dangerous if you have children present. Not worth the premium of staying at a pretty Japanese style house that has NOT bend properly maintained. Disappointing!

Booked this property in HP for a fun, relaxing getaway weekend and was amazed. Owners really put a lot of thought into making this place comfortable for guests. The pool was perfect. Location close enough to Kea'au and Hilo.

The property is absolutely beautiful. Lots of privacy, a pool to keep the kids occupied, and in a central location for our family reunion in Maku'u and Kalapana. Family that came to visit were impressed and asked about booking it too. Had a little hiccup to report to Danielle...not even 5 minutes later, help was at the door. Hope this home is available next year!!

Probably one of the coolest and most unique rentals I’ve ever stayed in. Great value, spacious, and the center courtyard was so lovely to see every morning. I also loved the location — not too far of a drive to Hilo or the beaches / lava fields in Kalapana. Would def recommend!
