We stayed 3 packed days! From farmers markets, gardens, beaches, planetariums and water falls we did a lot. The accommodations at the Rainbow Loft were great. The place was clean and beautifully located for what we wanted to do. The neighborhood is safe and a parking spot is provided which is a plus as street parking is crowded. The kitchen is well appointed. A/C in the bedrooms if needed but the breeze cooled the place down enough that we did not. Laundry is across the driveway and easy to access. As is common for a loft the main full bath is downstairs but beds upstairs. There is a half bath upstairs so don’t worry, you aren’t fumbling down the stairs to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.Another bonus is they do not make you jump through a lot of clean-up hoops before checking out. Just empty the trash on your way out. Everything is so expensive in Hawaii that finding this lovely accommodation for a nice price was a pleasant surprise. The quality for the price was great and we made many memories here.

Overall the accommodations were quite good, it was well stocked with supplies (kitchen, towels, other supplies) and was very conveniently located to the downtown Hilo area. For the price point, we would book this residence again.A couple of items that could be improved upon:- while the mattresses were good, the pillows were very hard.- the barbecue was quite small (propane canister for fuel), and did not produce enough heat to use.- there is no washer/dryer on-site.- table for eating was small and flimsy. One other point to note (and certainly something the owner cannot control) - the frogs start croaking at sunset and don’t stop until three in the morning, and are quite loud. The owner does provide a large supply of earplugs, but it could bother a light sleeper. While there were minor issues, to reiterate, we would stay at this unit again.

Plenty of room for our group of 6. Well equipped with everything we needed. Extras like cooler and beach towels were appreciated, Even an extra toothbrush when my luggage was delayed! Treats like coffee, cookies and honey were an extra special unexpected treat. Thanks!

This property is very charming and cozy. We (couple) stayed for three nights and simply loved the atmosphere. Every single detail, from decoration to amenities really well thought of. Parking is right in front of the unit, which makes easy loading and unloading. Property is located walking distance from restaurants and farmers market. Highly recommended.

We walked to downtown for drinks and dinner, very convenient. The amazing farmers market is also minutes away. The host’s little gifts upon our arrival were a nice touch. We had a wonderful stay

We enjoyed the stay. The gifts of cookies, coffee and honey were yummy. Everything was great except the view was not too good. Also, the walls were thin and we could here the neighbors walking up and down the stairs late at night.

The Rainbow Loft is a hidden gem in Hilo! Very close to downtown Hilo, Rainbow Falls and other trails. We appreciated how clean the place was, as well as the wonderful amenities (washer/dryer, luggage racks, coffee, etc.). It is within walking distance to local businesses, though we felt more comfortable driving.
Thank you Steven for a wonderful stay!

We had a great time in Hilo and the central location to all our activities made this place a great choice for our family! It's an easy walk to a lot of restaurants and shops, and a short drive to a number of Big Island sites like Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls State Park.
Check-in/out was easy and the hosts were responsive when we had questions (the laundry wasn't immediately visible but it was easy to find once we got the host's note).

The Rainbow Loft felt like a lovely combination of straightforward / modern decor with just a few very intentional highlights around the rainbow theme. Not distracting or "trying too hard", I appreciated the very functional approach. Perfect for a two or three day stay, with a longer stay we might have felt a little something missing, but we were out and about so much the place suited us perfectly.
A few items of note:
1) there is no washer/dryer, despite the listing. We had planned on doing laundry during the stay there so it threw off our plans a little - not the end of the world, but be advised: no washer/dryer in the place.
* * On this note, I messaged the property manager and got no response. I get it: can't do anything about it so ultimately who cares, but still. So, again, be advised: no washer/dryer.
2) The driveway has a very sharp hill - the van we rented scraped EVERY TIME until I mastered approaching the entrance far off to the side, mounting the curb, to avoid "belly scratching" the minivan.
3) The neighborhood is not a tourist spot. Hilo itself isn't "postcard Hawaii", for that matter. Not to the point of feeling threatened or completely unsafe, but it's definitely not a resort feel.
Despite those few little gotchas, the rainbow loft was a lovely place to stay: clean, right in town, and cozy. We're glad to have stayed there during our Hawaiian adventure!
