In the historic town of Keauhou, the birthplace of King Kamehameha III and a popular hideaway for native Hawaiian royalty, this charming two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium unit on the complex’s first floor treats you to unobstructed golf course views and peek-a-boo views of the Pacific Ocean from the lanai. Keauhou Akahi 302 by Gather borders the Kona Country Club golf course and is located in the Keauhou resort area, less than 15 minutes south of Kailua-Kona. This area of the Big Island is full of historic landmarks you’ll want to visit, as well as numerous world-class snorkeling spots where Hawai’i’s colorful marine life is put on full display.
The fully equipped kitchen, with all-white appliances, has everything you need for the days when you choose to prepare your own meals. The large window over the sink provides a view of the greenery beyond and allows natural light to illuminate the granite countertops, bamboo cabinetry, and updated flooring. The kitchen is mainly separated from the rest of the great room, however, a convenient pass-through makes it easy to communicate with friends and family seated at the nearby indoor dining table for four or in the adjacent living room. A cozy loveseat and a pair of sitting chairs with tropical flair face a flatscreen smart TV, which includes basic cable so you won’t miss your favorite show. Large double glass sliders lead out to the lanai, where you can grill, dine, or relax with the fairways of the Kona Country Club and peek-a-boo ocean views serving as your backdrop.
The secondary bedroom, located just off the living room, offers lanai access and features shoji doors that can be left open to expand the living space or closed to create a private bedroom with a queen-size Murphy bed. Across from the secondary bedroom, the guest bathroom has been newly remodeled. It showcases a sleek walk-in shower with elegant tile finishes, a modern vanity, and updated lighting, providing a stylish and comfortable space for guests. Additionally, the unit includes a laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer, allowing you to pack light and enjoy a more convenient vacation experience.
The primary bedroom is a tranquil retreat with ample windows that offer stunning golf course and ocean views, allowing the island breezes to keep you cool as you sleep on the king-size bed. The primary bedroom also includes an ensuite bathroom, which has been just remodeled with a glass-enclosed shower featuring luxury tile finishes, a new vanity, and updated lighting, adding a touch of modern elegance to your stay. The unit also has a laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer so you can keep your packing to a minimum.
The Keauhou Akahi Complex includes a large pool overlooking the ocean, with plenty of poolside seating options. But the surrounding area is so rich with historical landmarks and fantastic snorkeling, that you’ll definitely spend most of your time exploring. Visit Pu’uhonua O Honaunau, once a place of refuge for native Hawaiians who had broken a kapu (law), this national park includes cultural demonstrations, a self-guided walking tour of the grounds, and a cliff-side hike past multiple ancient sites. After your visit to this historic park, stop at Two Step Beach, where you can find some of the best snorkeling on the island or, if you’re lucky, spot dolphins swimming in Honaunau Bay. Another great place to enjoy underwater marine life is historic Kealakekua Bay. Be sure to seek out the Captain Cook Monument, where the famed explorer was killed by native Hawaiians in 1779.

We recently stayed at this property and overall had a pleasant experience. The peaceful atmosphere was definitely a highlight. However, the lack of air conditioning in the unit was a downside, as we had to rely on manual fans that ran constantly. So read the all fine print prior to booking. While the property looked nice, it did seem a bit outdated compared to other units in the building. On the plus side, the nearby golf course provided a serene backdrop, with a partial view of the ocean. Having a car was necessary to explore the area. The proximity of the property to the beach, as well as dining and shopping options, made it convenient to access everything we wanted to see. Overall, the location was excellent for exploring the area, with attractions and amenities close by.

We liked the location of the property because it was out of the noisy/busy streets of Kona Coast. However, you are not in walking distance to anything. But there were many beaches and amenities just a short drive away. Kona was about 15 minutes away. The floor plan worked fine for the three of us and the Murphy bed was comfortable and the that sleeping area was private enough for a family. The master bed was also very comfortable. Two things needed minor repair and they took care of it immediately even though it was the weekend. The entrance was down one flight of stairs. We found the patio a very relaxing place to have breakfast. Being next to the golf course was not a problem. We would stay here again.

We’ve enjoyed our stay. The only problem was the bath tub sliding doors were squeaky and hard to move them. It’s about time to replace them.

Clean, well maintained property with complete kitchen and quiet lanai next to golf course. Shared pool was never crowded and good opportunity to visit with local condominium owners. Only downside was golf course maintenance began between 5 AM and 6 AM every morning.

Absolutely wonderful. However, master bathroom toilet is in need of replacement. Very tiny, but the hall bathroom toilet is just fine. Also, 2 bedrooms is a bit of a stretch. The second bedroom needs to have a partitioned wall closed off from the living room. The property has a fantastic view of the 9th tee box on Kona Country Club. Definitely head to breakfast there if you can. Check in and check out was see less. Minimal request for pre departure clean up. Very easy. Totally would stay again.

Overall impression was that this property was more geared towards couples instead of families. Everything was set up in pairs and the pool rules were not super family friendly.
The apartment itself was nice enough, needs a new shower door in the master bathroom, and sprinklers turned on every morning at 6am outside our windows.
It was fun to sit on the lanai in the shade and watch the golfers. Apartment had all the things we needed to make our own meals.
Overall a good place to kick off visits around the island and see different things.

Overall our experience is good, we mostly were out during the day which is good cause it was hot in the rooms with no a/c, the fans did cool it down a bit, could be just the time of the year for the heat.
