Loved the whole experience. Nice and quiet and located near places to eat out and to drive to eat. Loved the breezes every day!
Our family stayed here for 10 wonderful nights. We enjoyed listening to the ocean out the lanai and our bedroom windows. The kids loved the boogie boards that were provided. We really appreciated the lawn chairs and ice chests as well. If you are looking for an oceanfront condo without the hustle of all the resorts this is where you want to be! We would highly recommend this place and would definitely love to come back.
This is a wonderful vacation retreat. The condo was clean, comfortable and well stocked with the essentials. The size was good for our group of four.The views were beautiful. We watched the whales, the sunrise over Haleakala and the green sea turtles. The outdoor grilling area is great.
The ocean is right there!
Maalaea Bay is a prefect spot to stay. It is quite and right at the harbor. In our opinion it is a hidden gem. Yes, you do get some trade winds but this condo is centrally located. You are in the middle of things, you can take a trip to Wailea or Kaanapali or just enjoy the pool and condo.
We truly enjoyed this lovely spot and would highly recommend it.

We found another great location in Maui in Ma’alea bay. Easy drive to many things. I loved our ability to watch so much whale activity. The condo was dated but very clean. The residents in the condominium were very friendly. I will say the tone of the owner was off-putting before we arrived but they were responsive once we arrived.
Also, the listed rent on the VRBO website changed to a higher rate once I requested the dates.
Maalea Bay is an easy drive from the airport and gives access to both sides of Maui. The unit is walking distance from the wonderful Maui Ocean Center Aquarium as well as a delightful beach at the end of the street. The lanai faces Haleakala across the bay. Many sea turtle sightings from the front lawn. Lovely swimming pool. Close to restaurants, farmers markets and snorkeling beaches.
The property itself was well maintained. The unit we stayed in needed major repairs.
The property is located so that both western coasts were easily reachable, as well as being close to nice beach park and marina. Property was very clean with everything you need for cooking. Beds were great for a family of 4 and the living area was comfortable. Nice views and close enough to the airport. There was good and timely information provided by the owner for how to use the property on arrival and departure.
The pros: The central location and view can't be beat, along with turtles front and centre on the rocks as well as watching the whales every day!!! Lynn was most responsive to all our correspondence at any time!!
The cons: The condo is dated and could use some serious TLC. Couch and chairs have seen better days and are very sinky ....twin beds could desperately use new frames....the bathrooms have peeling vinyl and really need to be re-done. Carpet in a beach condo... All cosmetic, and never affected our stay, but with the price we paid, updates need to happen. Having to supply toilet paper, paper towel, dish soap etc is just strange.....I have never experienced this in all my VRBO rentals. Some easy and welcoming touches would go a long way to giving this a great rating......flowers upon arrival.....a welcome basket with coffee, tea and local goodies (Mac nuts etc) This is the first place where none of these things were present.
If you are looking for luxury, this isn't the place. If you are looking for a central Maui location with great views...look no further. We really did enjoy our stay!!! Mahalo
The lanai was facing the ocean, and we had coffee and watched the whales every morning. What a beautiful way to start the day.
Turtles were right off of the lawn, and were feeding in the ocean.
Very clean pool (it's right under the lanai) and was quiet during evening, early morning and nighttime hours.
It was very windy while we were there, and the condo is situated such that the trade winds come from the back of the condo, leaving the lanai protected which was nice. No A/C but fans
Things were mostly clean (windows dirty and spots on carpet). It's an older unit and things such as old kitchen knives, lids that don't match, the sliding door to the lanai was hard to open/close, etc. It could really use a facelift.
I found the manager difficult to work with. Pages of legal jargon and a very confusing check out time. Some listed noon, others listed 11 and received a 'reminder' when we were out by 11:30. For check in, we didn't need to be there at the allowed time, but she checked with us 2x because the cleaner needed extra time to clean beyond the check in time. It was fine, but we felt that we were not welcome.
The twin beds were extremely uncomfortable even after me asking prior to booking. An oversized foam on top of the hard mattress, sheets were cheap and didn't stay on the bed. We bought cotton sheets due to old synthetic and 'sticky' hot sheets.
Overall, the location of the condo units was great (although windy), but I would not recommend this unit to friends.
The property was clean and well maintained. The lack of air-conditioning was not a factor. There was a nice breeze coming in from the ocean. We stayed in February and were able to see turtles on the beach and whales from our balcony.
