Please note: there is not a working hot tub at Hale Kai. It was decommissioned in early 2024 and removed from all of our advertising. It's mentioned in many reviews and we cannot alter or remove those, so there's been some confusion.

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Heritage Room offers a queen bed, private bathroom with shower, WiFi, SMART TV, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fans, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (age 13 years and over). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The property was easy to get to and you felt so comfortable from the moment you arrived. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The pool area needs maintenance and a lot more attention. Lots of debris from the landscaping and that is okay, but it needs more frequent maintenance. We cleaned up the pool ourselves and enjoyed the swimming! The hot tub does not work and needs lots of maintenance! Otherwise, we enjoyed the view and watched whales right from the lanai!

Waking up every morning to the sunrise and fresh fruit, muffins, eggs and kina coffee. Going to sleep every night with the sound of the waves. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

This rental is close to various waterfalls, botanical gardens and easy to get to the Volcano national park.

There were some positives, but other things I wasn't happy about. Positives-place was clean, owners accurately advised of difficulty stone steps to the back. As I have some mobility problems, the owner [she didn't identify herself], had her gardener or handyman assist me to the room, which was appreciated. Biggest positive-there was a spectacular view of Hilo bay in front of the room. Also the breakfast food was tasty. Negatives- I thought the pool would be larger-it was small and the entire 2 days we were there, a large metal pool cleaner was kept in the middle of the pool, making it much smaller. The jacuzzi, had a cover on it, which I removed to go in. I almost burned myself, as the temperature was 105 degrees [verified on the side]. The room was much smaller than expected.Lastly, we had the room until 10 am the last day. We had not seen any hosts or had contact with anyone, other than the hostess asking the gardener to help me with belongings. On the last morning, we went into town to buy something, but left some food of ours in the fridge and a very large bag with gift purchases, ie. expensive salt, several bags of Kona coffee beans etc. We were to indicate our checkout by leaving the room key inside of the room.We returned at 9:30 am, and saw that our bed was stripped, our belongings gone, I had to go all over the property looking for someone,until I found the cleaning person who looked for my large bag. I felt we had until the 10 am checkout and was uncomfortable

Great Amazing Weekend Getaway ~ Pool & HOT Tub was more than expected ~ Views were amazing ~ Breakfast Fruits Muffins were fresh & Taste Great ~ This Suites JUST like the posting. Location close to Hilo Town & Close to the airport. Neighbors we visiting from Germany and we all enjoyed our stay!! No voice at all during the evening.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: What peace to sit on the lanai with the lush blooming plants right above the crashing surf. Sunsets, rainbows, the undulating sea all right there. For a "do-it-yourself breakfast, the fruit plates, yogurt, muffins, boiled eggs and coffee were just right. The place is older, so of course shows that. A previous review said the floor turned a visitor's socks black; we found the same thing. I texted our contact in the company, and right away their lovely cleaning crew bought a new floor cleaning machine and washed our floors. Apparently the new floors are giving off a weird emission. We were in the Heritage room -- small with a comfy bed. Negatives? It's an older building, so there was some black mold in the shower (easy to avoid). Also a communication before we arrived said someone would contact us with directions for getting in, on our arrival day. No-one did. It turned out there was a second note they sent us that gave directions. We were worried driving there that we'd not get in -- but we did and it was a lovely holiday.
