Hale Kahoa Annex is an oceanfront one-bedroom flat facing the ocean and Hilo Bay. It is a spacious lower-level unit where one can sit and watch the sky change colors from sunrise to dusk. Waves crash all day; coqui frogs sing every night.

A 3-minute walk takes you to watch surfers at Honoli'i Beach or to jump in the adjoining river for a refreshing swim. Explore the Big Island from Hilo, or treat your stay like a resort with the swimming pool just steps from your door.

Accessed through a private entrance, the flat has and floor plan with kitchen, ample dining area and living room. The bedroom is roomy, and the bathroom is newly remodeled.

Bedroom: king-sized bed, blackout curtains, desk, full closet and remote controlled-fan/ceiling light.

Kitchen: Full-sized appliances, microwave and toaster oven, garbage disposal. Basic cooking supplies are provided, and can try to stock any special requests with arrangements made in advance.

Living room: Palliser queen-sized mattress sofabed (very comfortable) that sleeps two, 55-inch TV with digital channels (Spectrum) and internet connection to let you sign-in to your streaming services.

Dining area: Comfortably seats 4, as well as a breakfast counter in kitchen, and remote-controlled fan/light.

Lanai (porch): seats that look to the pool or ocean.

Pool: remodeled in October 2021, has a bahama (seating in shallow water) area and plenty of poolside lounging areas. Guests are given priority and exclusive use of pool (not shared while guests present).

Yard: very expansive grassy yard with unblocked ocean views. Guests are given priority and exclusive use of pool (not shared while guests present).

The downstairs unit is completely private and stand-alone, but located on the ground floor of the main house upstairs which is owner-occupied. You might hear footsteps above during the day, but the layout of the upstairs and downstairs separates sleeping areas to opposite ends of the building and will ensure quiet sleep. Our property is large enough to easily provide the privacy we assume our guests desire; but we are readily available for any needs and warmly invite any conversations about our island or anything else you might want to know.

Property over looks the Hilo bay from the West side. Beautiful views, great afternoon breezes and you get to see whales at times. Had a great 3 day stay and swims in the pool.

This unit was completely wonderful. I could sit on the lounge chairs, watching the exhale of the humpbacks all day. Mari was very responsive and place was very clean. Just keep in mind you can lightly hear the footsteps, muffled conversations, etc of the owners above. The crashing waves mostly drowned out the normal “above your head “ noises. I would absolutely, highly recommend this paradise like place.

When I was looking for a place to stay near Hilo, I noticed this rental was all five stars; I completely agree. The home is very nice and beautiful view of the ocean. The owner is very helpful and available any time. Great location, easily accessible to a lot. Plenty of room. I didn’t get to take advantage of the pool; more so because of my schedule and the weather. Out of all the VRBOs I have rented, this is by far one of the nicest. The owner provides a lot of extras that some don’t. I know my husband and I will come back here within the next year. I highly recommend it.

The property is right on the coast with a spectacular view. The apartment has a large spacious living space and kitchen. It was stocked with everything needed. It is conveniently located minutes from downtown Hilo. The owners were available if needed.
