This is a little hidden gem…we had a 1st floor unit, steps from the ocean. The sunsets were spectacular! Plenty of beach front, but a little grassy area for people to walk and for kids to run and play. Easy access to everything. Our host was awesome and checking in and out was a breeze. We will definitely be back on our next visit. Mahalo for a wonderful place to stay!
So the property itself is OK, nothing special for that area but it’s not bad. What IS bad is when you are told one price and then when you show up you find out there’s another price.
An absolute amazing property. Very clean, accessible and located in the perfect area. I had an amazing time and would absolutely stay at property again!
Starting with the good: The ocean at your fingertips from the back porch was WONDERFUL. We spent every morning and evening sitting out there... the high price was worth it for this feature. Apt. was well-outfitted with kitchen and beach items, and the W/D was also a nice feature. Bed was very comfortable and nice towels were provided. Effective A/C units were very appreciated! Easy check-in at condo office, magnetic keys were very convenient.
The so-so: the apartment had a strong musty smell when we walked in, although it was clean. I assume it's just from being so close to the ocean, and with the doors frequently being left open to the ocean breeze. The odor wasn't noticeable after about an hour of running the A/C's, so this wasn't a huge problem... just expect it when you first walk in. (host might consider starting the A/C units before guests arrive)
The big drawback (and reason for only 4 stars) was that the public trash disposal room is immediately outside the bedroom window... and as soon as people start cleaning their places (especially on Sunday and Monday mornings) it gets quite noisy, and impossible to sleep in. This sort of info absolutely needs to be included in the ad so that people know what they're paying for (especially at this price). Host should include this info on the ad so guests can be prepared.
Long story short: INCREDIBLE place right on the ocean, but bring earplugs if you're hoping to sleep in.

Incredible location with even better views on west Maui. Regularly snorkeled right out of the back and experienced a great drive around west Maui.

Great location. In walking distance of food stops and ABC store. Show up early to checking, there can be lines. Sitting on the back porch is very peaceful, but keep in mind other guests may be sitting in your view. Good communication with owner. Condo has everything we needed. Good cold AC and good shower pressure.

Papakea was the perfect spot to reconnect with Maui, and this unit was spot on. I fell asleep to the sound of the crashing waves every night and couldn’t have been happier or had a better time.

This was our 2nd time staying in an ocean front condo at Papakea. If you only have a few days on Maui to unwind, you want to be just be a few a few steps from the ocean. It's a unique experience you can't get any other way. Terry was great to communicate with, the condo is nice, and everything is easy.

We had the best time! All I wanted to see were whales breeching from the lanai after spending a month of sightseeing in Australia. That is exactly what we saw every day! The amenities were abundant. I felt like I was in my own home but in Hawaii! We will be back for certain! I love it here!

This unit did not disappoint. We had a fun and relaxing week next to the ocean and hope to be back soon. This unit is close to all the fun and games the resort has to offer but is private as it is located near the edge of the property. I highly recommend.

We had a wonderful week. Property was exactly as described. Spent a lot of time on the lanai, sipping our coffee every morning and enjoying the absolutely beautiful sunsets each evening. We thought we were going to miss out on the rainbows we had seen on previous trips to Maui but were treated to multiple ones on our last morning. Can’t beat being first floor oceanfront. Already looking forward to our next trip!
We have been staying at Papakea for many, many years. This particular unit was just as advertised. Communication with the owner was excellent but had no need for contact during our stay. Overall, another fantastic Maui vacation.

Papakea property has great location with ocean front pools, bbqs, cabana, lawn games, and beach access. Fantastic location and walkability to shops, food, and grocery shopping.
The owners are so friendly and kind and take pride in their unit. There have been upgrades throughout and it was extremely clean! There is a big tv, well stocked kitchen, great bathroom, and storage throughout making it feel more comfortable for guests.
A few things to note, it has the smoothest and quietest sliding door and screen and the AC cools down the unit very quickly!
The kindness of our host was something special who were helpful and flexible by allowing us to use the refrigerator early to store groceries until check in time.
The view from this unit is exceptional and we found ourselves enjoying the sunset each evening on the lanai with the comfortable chairs and table (seem to be upgraded compared to other units on property).

Such a beautiful place it was my second time staying there and I loved just as the first time. Terry is wonderful. Always responds right away. Mahalo nui loa!
Our unit was on the ground floor. We had a great view of the ocean. There was a tiny sandy beach. On the outside lawn there wasn’t enough lounge chairs for all the occupants. We never got to sunbathe on them. The unit has all the amenities one needs buts it’s old. There was no central AC, only individual cooling units in each room & ceiling fans.
You absolutely cannot beat the location of the condo. You are literally steps to the beach. Directly in front of the condo, we enjoyed a small sandy beach with some snorkeling that was great for beginners (as long as the surf is calm). Larger sandy beaches are very close and walkable either north or south. Saw turtles swimming by almost daily. Although the condo itself is a little dated, it is clean, and the owners are working on upgrades, including a new couch, appliances, and flooring. The owner and property manager were lovely, very accommodating, and easy to get a hold of. We would not hesitate to stay again. Mahalo!
Everything about this condo was perfect. We loved the location, the view, and the amenities. Everything we needed was there and available for us to use, from the community barbecues, to the beach chairs to the towels with chair clips, to all the kitchen supplies. We couldn't have asked for anything more and hope to stay here again.
The ground floor beachfront location provided mornings and stunning sunset views in the evening. The place was very cozy, with all of the amenities of home. The resort is very nice and easy to get around. We will be back soon!!!
