This historical property had everything we were looking for: a beautiful and peaceful rural setting, abundant birdlife, friendly ranch pets, a heritage cottage that delivered comfortable accommodation with everything we needed, our own bath house and jacuzzi, a large vegetable garden, fresh eggs from the ranch's hens, rich history, etc, etc, etc. Truly delightful; perfect if you need to get away from the stress of city life for a spell.

We stayed four nights at James Cottage and very much enjoyed our time and were not happy to leave. It is convenient to everything the Kohala area has to offer but seems miles and decades away from the usual tourist environment. We saw many whales jumping from the deck and enjoyed walking around the ranch and adjacent ranch land. The deck is also a great place just to read a book or enjoy a barbecue. As Christie says it's important to know this is a working ranch but where else can you walk a hundred yards and get fresh eggs direct from the producer! We look forward to visiting again..

My wife and I stayed here for a week in April. This is the most amazingly beautiful place I have ever been! The bungalows are very private and have wonderful views of the rolling hills and ocean. They are designed to be both luxurious and rustic. There is a detached bathroom that is absolutely amazing. It has these pebbled floors that message your feet, a shower that comes straight down from the ceiling and lots of beautiful wood. There is also a hot tub on the deck which is a perfect ending to a perfect day. The ranch itself has horses that you can ride and chickens where we got fresh eggs for breakfast every morning. This is truly a special place and one that we now plan on returning to every year!

Having already stayed in another cottage on Puakea Ranch we were hooked. We loved the whole ranch, the spaciousness, the seclusion, the views of the ocean, the morning eggs from the chickens, the horseback riding, the classiness of the cottages. So, we moved to James Cottage, the only one open then. It is smaller with only 1 room but equally well appointed and comfortable. We still enjoyed sitting on the lanai - with plenty of room for inviting guests for wine and cheese and incredible views and loved being in the hot tub watching the stars. We would be happy to stay again in James Cottage - just to be on such a unique place as Puakea Ranch. Sooooo much nicer, yet equally as classy, as any resort we have ever seen!
