We have named our home Makani Kai which means "ocean breeze" where you can come to relax, watch the waves and let your stress melt away. In our opinion, the house is in one of the most beautiful locations on the island. Situated on the world famous Lyman's surf break, you can watch the surf and surfers ride the waves from almost every room and bedroom in the house. Guests have described our home as feeling that they've rented their own private resort on the island.
At over 5,000 square feet Makani Kai is one of the largest vacation rentals on the island. The house boasts 5 bedrooms, 6 baths, with multiple kitchens, 3 separate living rooms and a large game room with a pool table, foosball table and ping pong table. We also have a cornhole board and other board games. This makes the house perfect for extended family and/or multi-family rentals where guests still want to have their own quiet space within the house.
Three of the bedrooms have king sized beds. One bedroom has a queen sized bed and one has a double bed. There is also a double bed sized futon couch, queen sized fixed couch and several portable twin sized beds. 4 of the bedrooms have their own bathroom. Each bedroom has an air conditioner that can be separately adjusted to the desired temperature of the guest in that room.
There are three sets of washers and dryers in the house for your convenience. The swimming pool is situated on the ocean side of the house so you can enjoy the pool and watch the waves and sunset from the pool deck. The pool deck area is elevated so that the ocean view is enhanced.
The house is situated approximately 1/2 a mile north of Magic Sands Beach, which is considered to the the best sandy beach in town. One of the top snorkeling locations on the island, Kahaluu Bay is just 1 mile South of the house. The house is located on Alii Drive approximately 1.5 miles South of the main downtown Kailua-Kona area and roughly 1.5 miles North of Keauhou Bay. Alii Drive is the main ocean front road between downtown Kona and Keauhou Bay. The road is well traveled with significant noise. If you are from a quiet neighborhood you will notice it, while if you are from the city maybe less so. In our opinion, the stunning ocean views are a worthy tradeoff.

Absolutely met and exceeded expectations. Welcoming, spacious, and comfortable are accurate words to describe this property. The fruit arrangement was a pleasant surprise. There was plenty of room for our extended family and friends. However, the main gate did not close, and was unable to close. This could be considered a necessity for a family with children.

Amazing place for us and extended family. 6 adults and 4 children ages 8 to 13. Place was large enough for everyone to have their own space..close enough to amenities ans magic sand beach. Lots of bathrooms and washing machines. Large kitchen for in home meals...

Great location, Ken (property manager) was excellent. The handyman was top notch because we needed him one night when a sink by pool developed leak (downside of house by ocean).
We took an Uber several nights to Lua and several area restaurants. Pool was great! The layout was great! Value is excellent. House needs a little TLC, but I will have very fond memories of my stay on the big island because of the ability to rent a house vs a hotel.

We chose the location because we know that area very well. The house was perfectly located, and my favorite part was all of the afternoon sun on the pool. Everyone had their own space and even more important was that they had their own air conditioning and fans!! We had a fabulous vacation.

Great location. Overall, we loved the place. The pool was great. Lots of room. Kitchen was great. House may need a bit of updating. Owner mentioned some difficulty with critters. Cockroaches were present daily. They were more than a nuisance. Interaction with owner was pleasant and helpful. Great celebration for our family with some moderate problems
