You get what you pay for when you travel. The price on this unit was on the lower end for accommodations in Waikiki. The room as advertised has a great view of the ocean and the lagoon. Beyond that perk, the rest of the location is average. Main Pro: close to everything and spectacular views from the balcony.Main Con: Air Conditioner leaks so much water that you have to dump condensation pans every four hours or their will be spillage running off of the balcony. Not the end of the worst thing ever, but it’s a pretty big inconvenience over the course of a warm and humid evening/night.
Very nice location with beautiful views.
Our unit was so so. The biggest negative was security coming the first 3 days telling us to notify our owner of the a/c leaking to the floor below. We had to empty the pans underneath until a technician came and did something to slow the leakage.
Pros:* Clean condo* Incredible views from the lanai* Comfortable bed* Direct view of the fireworks on Friday nights.Cons:* Description of available household items is not clear, and needs to be communicated beforehand. Example: no sheet pans available to make dinner, even though there is an oven.* The track to the sliding glass door to the lanai is sticky and hard to close and open.
Great view of fireworks and ocean
UNBEARABLE!
From 8am to 10 pm ? It was none stop strike. They sang ALL DAY right under the window .
When I asked the host to cancel so I can go somewhere else and SLEEP. She says to use my travel insurance and didn’t offer any type of solution. .
I called VRBO and they moved me to a hotel
The balcony is lovely yet ? I couldn’t enjoy none of it cause of the noise level and craziness in the streets. She knew the strike was going on socks it’s been 32 days . Make sure the strike is over before booking as the host will NOT budge whatsoever .
This apartment felt like a bait and switch
My week “ vacation “ was ruined and I was happy to leave. Thank you VRBO resolution team for helping efficiently . I don’t think this listing should be live until the strike is over. This was a torture.
We recently stayed at the Ilikai Apartments and overall had a good experience. The apartment's location is fantastic—right near the beach and close to a bus stop, making it very easy to get around. We also enjoyed the lovely balcony views overlooking the Hilton Laguna and the ocean. Communication with the host was generally prompt and friendly, and the beds and provided linens and towels were of good quality.
That said, there are a few areas for improvement. The apartment itself felt a bit dated, and a few updates would make a difference. For instance, we noticed the kitchen faucet was leaking, which was a minor inconvenience. Additionally, it would have been helpful if the apartment had more basics like dishwasher tabs and garbage bags, especially for longer stays. While we appreciated the building's strict no-smoking policy, we did experience some issues with neighboring guests not following this rule—of course, this isn’t the host's fault, but it did affect our enjoyment.
In summary, while the location, views, and basic amenities were great, some improvements would make this stay even better.
Watch the fireworks show on Fridays from the balcony.
We loved our stay at this condo. It was close to beach, lagoon and shopping. The owners were attentive and quick to reply. Mahalo
Would stay again. Photos are exactly as the unit was.
Pros: Extremely clean, bright, and open. Close to beach and restaurants. Great view of the Hilton lagoon. Variety of shopping & eating places on lobby floor including a mini mart which is very handy for those last minute needs. Host was quick to respond.
Cons: Elevators have been an issue both times we've stayed at the Ilikai. Two of them were under repair this time so wait times were 15-30 minutes depending on time of day. Find your patience. Previous reviews about the hard mattress are spot on. I like a more firm bed so it didn't bother me a bit. The AC unit seemed newer and kept things cool (min of 68), but you would want to keep shades drawn all day in the summer months as the room warms up quickly with the sun beating in. TV remote still doesn't work to turn it on etc but who sits in their room on vacation watching TV. Not a dealbreaker for me.
Overall a great place to stay. Wish it had parking included as it's pricey for the garage and the harbor parking out back took several laps around to find open spots.
Side note: Do not attempt to borrow the luggage carts from the hotel. There was one just sitting in the corner, but we were unaware they were for "hotel" guests only and were promptly made to remove our luggage and haul 7 bags up ourselves.
Pros: the view from the lanai is stunning. We had morning sun to enjoy our coffee on the lanai. The condo is very close to the beach and within walking distance of many restaurants and activities. The room was clean and the owner was timely at responding to messages.
Cons: the room overall is very sparse, as pictured. I’ve stayed in other condos where they leave a spice a rack, swim toys on the balcony, extra towels, cleaning supplies, paper towels, etc. So if you’re only staying for a few days, it’s quite a lot to go buy in preparation for your stay. The tv power and volume buttons don’t work so you have to get manually change them on the tv. We don’t watch a lot of tv, so it wasn’t the end of the world, but it wasn’t convenient either. The futon wasn’t comfortable, so if you’re planning on utilizing it as an extra bed, you may want to really consider it.
Overall, the location is amazing and paradise is steps away from your room.
We were excited to be staying at the Ilikai again, since we had been the year before. Communication with the host was great. However, they need to invest some money into this property big time. Everything was outdated. The curtains were stained, uncomfortable bed (sheets, pillows, and mattress), no pictures or anything on the walls, no stools to eat at the kitchen counter, and it was much smaller than anticipated. The toilet was slow to flush and the kitchen sink drained very slow. The AC was a big issue for me. It was over 80 degrees in Waikiki when we went and the host directions said that we couldn't turn the air on lower than 70, to turn it off when we leave the room, and if it breaks then we were responsible for paying for it. They must have been having problems with it since there were metal containers on the patio to catch the water dripping. The host was quick to respond, which was appreciated and they tried to right the wrongs by sending someone in to look at the AC (who said he couldn't do anything) and they offered to send a plumber. We were not happy at all with the stay, especially for the amount that we paid. We cut our stay here short and moved to a different location for the remainder of our trip. Great location and view of the lagoon, beach, and fireworks. I really do appreciate the communication, efforts, and understanding from the host but it needs a serious renovation.
