You have 2 options when renting our place. You can either rent the main house which sleeps 2, or the main house and detached master suite which sleeps 4. Decorated in casual island style, the homes main dwelling has 1 bedroom with full bed, 1 full bath , living dining room combination with a full size kitchen. Attached to the main home is a private master suite with a queen bed, full bath, sitting area and hot tub with beautiful ocean views. You can rented the cottage for 2 people or the cottage and master suite for 4 people. Maximum 4 guests total. Amenities included are barbecue, cable TV/smart tv, stereo with bluetooth and washer/dryer, ceiling fans, fully equipped kitchen with coffee maker, and microwave.
Things to do...: Take advantage of the excellent snorkeling and scuba diving in front of your own cottage. Feed the fish in the tide pools or search for sea shells. Look for turtles eating the seaweed off the rocks as you sit in your lounge chair. There is not a better place to kayak on Maui and they are available to rent nearby. Walk to nearby white sand beach - Makena Beach. Big Beach, which for years has been voted best beach in Hawaii, is a 5 minute drive from the cottage. If you dont feel like cooking enjoy the wonderful restaurants at the Maui Prince Hotel which is a 5 minute scenic walk. Keawalai Historical Church is located just 5 doors down.
Makena Memories: Our home has such wonderful memories for me...My grandparents originally built the little cottage as a place to come to on the weekends. My first memories are of the original design of the house...it was completely open on the front. Where the bedroom is now, had benches all the way around the sides. In the middle where the bathroom is, was where they locked up the bedding and cots. The kitchen was the kitchen and the bathroom was actual built next to the cottage and my grandfather kept his most precious possessions in there...his lawn mower and fishing nets. We had so much fun, everyone together like a big camp out, some in hammocks others on army cots, but all of us watching the fireworks in the sky. What I realized as I got older was that it wasn't fire works but the military bombing Koholawe island.
Through the years I learned how special our place is. I grew up there, learned to swim, got married there and now my son gets to experience it too....

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate twenty-five years of marriage. No kids. No dog. No work meetings. We sat for hours on the edge of the ocean--literally, the perfectly manicured lawn abuts the short lava rock sea wall. The oceanfront seating area is private and distanced. We could and did sing along with our music without fear of disturbing the neighbors. The small bay is active during the morning hours with snorkel tours, which isn't surprising considering we saw sea turtles from the grass yard nearly every day (they like to play in the surf in front of the house to the north). The tours are no annoyance and provide something else to watch while you enjoy the sun and the ocean.
We enjoyed the cottage and detached master suite. Both were clean and maintained. The kitchen is well-appointed--better than most VRBO I've rented. Both have incredible ocean views. Both have A/C units but it's worth noting that the one in the cottage struggled to keep a pleasant temperature during the warmer parts of the day. The suite, however, was as cool as we wanted when we needed a retreat from the sun.
Finally, the owner was attentive, though we needed little because everything was well-prepared. And I don't know if this is everyone's preference or just mine, but I really liked that the owner did not check in on us or bug us with questions. There if needed, invisible if not--perfect.
This is a special place. A beautiful cottage on the water in Maui that's worth the price. Thanks!

What an amazing place to stay! Direct access to the ocean, with 2 beaches within walking distance. The house was clean and had all the beach items needed to have fun. I highly recommend this fantastic property!

You simply cannot find a better location than this house. Beautiful setting on the water and very quiet. I was still recovering from back surgery and it was very easy to maneuver the property. Wendi was very responsive. I highly recommend this lovely zen property

A turtle might come visit you on the rocks out front. Night nudity will most likely go unnoticed. They have thought of everything you might need and placed it where you think it might be. The place has a great vibe. I have enjoyed all the envy of my friends. Hope to go again very soon.

Perfect getaway for those who want to experience Maui's beauty and relaxation in a private space. The house is small (with some unexpected steps that take some getting used to), but it is clean and well stocked with a private lawn right on the water. No more navigating crowds to find a square on the beach -- we enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon lounging outside at the water's edge in peace and relative privacy. Tours of snorkelers and kayaks come every day (the cove is at Turtle Town) but even that was not disturbing. The owner was very helpful and the information/directions clear and easy to follow. This cottage is now our "go to" place whenever we return. Thanks Wendy!

Unless you’re Richard Branson or some other celebrity who owns their own private island, you will feel privileged to stay at this property and enjoy this little slice of paradise. My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary here. The view is unparalleled from the rippling waves at your feet to the neighboring islands in the distance and the endless stars in the night sky -- and everything in between. The daily fresh mangos were a treat for breakfast or a snack after snorkeling in our “back yard.” This was our first trip to Hawaii where we didn’t feel compelled to leave our lodging to fully enjoy ourselves, since the property has so much to offer. When we did pry ourselves away from the house, we found many lovely restaurants within just a few minutes and world class snorkeling just a few miles down the road at the Ahihi-Kinau Marine Preserve.
