If you are looking for a place on the outskirts of the busier, more touristy part of Kauai, this is the perfect spot! A beautiful home with everything you need for a wonderful time. Included are beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, boogie boards and ice chests for some great adventures around the island. Then you come back to a wonderful house that has everything you need, including all the kitchen appliances to seasoning and oils, and a bbq to grill on. Follow that up with a nice soak in the hot tub and you couldn’t ask for anything more. Liz & Chad were easy to communicate with, as was the check-in process. I will definitely be staying here my next time on the island. Until then, aloha and mahalo!

Hale Makai is a gorgeous home(cottage) on the west side of Kauai. The tranquil space was the perfect home away from home as we adventured around the island. The hosts did an amazing job communicating with us both before and during our stay, promptly answering and mitigating any issues we may have had. The home is beautiful, the hot tub the patio, the lanai, the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were absolutely perfect. The location of the cottage is perfect for a more quiet home space. It's across the street from a beautiful black sand beach, a short drive to many white sand beaches with many other adventures within a maximum 1.5 hour drive. If you like to cook, and even if you don't, you will find everything you need at Hale Makai. The kitchen is so well equipped it was a pleasure to stay home and cook our meals. Locally sourced beef, fish and coffee were our favourites. The sunsets on the west side just down the road we were told are the best on the island. Take a walk or quick drive to Kekaha Beach Park for the sunsets and views of the Ni'Ihua (the forbidden island). We hope to return to the island and to Hale Makai someday. Mahalo
Hale Makai was a wonderful place for us to stay. We stayed 4 days and it was very convenient and close to our family who live in Kekaha. The house was immaculate and decorated so nicely. Everything we needed was provided and the beds were very comfortable. We would highly recommend Hale Makai.

Liz & Chad were great with communication and had wonderful recommendations for places to see and places to eat! The property was perfect for us as there were 2 bedrooms with comfortable beds. We loved the private hot tub. The kitchen was well equiped and even had some spices. It was easy to ger to church as well as the beaches. We enjoyed our stay and will return againW

Liz and Chad were so hospitable and accommodating . . . easy to communicate with and very friendly, down-to-earth, helpful people.The house is comfortable and equipped with all the amenities.Beautifully decorated with modern, as well as vintage furnishings . . . nicely done!I would highly recommend!
The house was great! Super cute. The extras for the beach were greatly appreciated! Close to hiking which was spectacular! Also close to departure for Na Pali Coast tour. Would stay again!

We had a nice stay at Hale Makai. The hosts were very responsive and were happy to help in anyway they could. The area is great, quiet & not a load of tourists (like me).
Was really stocked with everything we needed including beach chairs, snorkel equipment, beach towels and coolers. AC and fans super helpful and the movies and hot tub were an excellent plus! The location is great if you want nice quiet area with beaches and small towns close. If you are looking for touristy things to do, this is not your vibe. Hosts were great, attentive to our needs and we had an amazing week!

My husband and I stayed here for our ten year anniversary and spent a week relaxing on the couch or jacuzzi between our daily excursions! The kitchen was one of the best stocked rentals I’ve ever used! This helped keep meals on the cheaper side since we mostly only had to pay for lunches while we were out. We cooked everything else in the home. The fridge provided fresh filtered water and ice too! I am in love with the showers, from the stone tile to the water pressure! Traffic noise wasn’t a problem at all and the longer driveway makes it very private! The black sand beach is literally across the street and gorgeous for wave watching! We would absolutely stay again!
Beautiful hidden oasis! Quiet, comfortable and relaxing. Host and her greeted us when we arrived. Very friendly and helpful. Welcome book had great suggestions and places to eat and visit throughout the island!
Liz and Chad were amazing hosts! The place was beautiful and accommodating. I could have stayed for two months instead of two weeks. We loved Kekaha and didn’t mind driving to other destinations over the island. We will be staying again!
This house was a wonderful stay, a perfect end to our vacation in Kauai. We wish we would have stayed here the entire week vs the few days we spent on the north shore. The local food, beer, and comforts of this home were perfect. We didn't use the hot tub but we would have if we stayed longer. The beds were super comfortable, the sofa was lovely, and the fans and AC were a welcome treat after a long hike. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the spices and oils you need for cooking.

Loved the stay - great house - super comfortable! Only down side is the distance from everything (grocery stores/reataurants) but it certainly isn’t the owners fault. Very quiet stay!!!

The accommodation was even better in person. A great cottage to share for traveling couples. The screened in lanai, your own backyard & hot tub were awesome. Having the beach towels, chairs, umbrella and cooler was so useful. The check in process was very easy and Chad & Liz were very helpful. Thanks for a great stay!
This sweet home was one of the best VRBO experiences we have ever had. The laid back vibe set the most relaxing tone for our stay. The house was very comfortable, spacious, and immaculate. The property was fantastic. My wife and I stayed for a month and had a great time. Liz and Chad were the perfect hosts. The cottage has everything you need. Perfect location if you plan on doing a lot of hiking in Waimea Canyon and Koke'e State Park. Make sure to check out Kalaheo Cafe and JP's Pizza. Go Niners!!!
