    Hawaii> Captain Cook
    • 3 bedroom
    • 2 bathroom
    • Sleeps 10

"Pathway of the Gods" is the meaning of the name given by ancient Hawaiians to Kealakekua Bay. Five hundred feet from the bay, nestled among the palm trees and fragrant plumeria blossoms is the site of your next vacation. Let us "Big Isle" you!

Hale Hanai is a family-friendly two-story vacation rental home which will give you a taste of old Hawaii, away from the crowds, with a large private yard abounding in fragrant flowers, bananas, and coconuts. 'Hanai' is a word Hawaiians use to designate adopted family. While staying in our home, you are our adopted family.

Upstairs, Mom and Dad can relax and enjoy their own private living room with views of the bay. The Alii (royalty) room is furnished with a California King bamboo canopy bed, a seating area, and a lanai from which to view some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. There is a fully-equipped kitchen and a dining room with a table that seats eight, as well as a china hutch with dishes for that special meal.

Downstairs, there is a separate living room, and room to enjoy a snack. The Sandcastle Sanctuary has a queen-size bed and a built-in daybed, perfect to accommodate Grandma and Grandpa or a married child and spouse. The built-in daybed is wonderful for a younger child, and it also makes a great place to sit and enjoy a book while the ocean breezes rustle the curtains and wash your cares away. There is even a portable crib ready for a napping baby, if needed. The Volcano Room sports a double bed and the decor has been heavily influenced by Madame Pele, the goddess of fire. The Captain Cook Quarters has a twin-size daybed, with aquatic decor for kids who might enjoy "sleeping with the fishes." Two queen-size sleeper sofas (one upstairs, one down) round out the sleeping arrangements.

Across the bay is the historic Captain Cook monument that marks the place where the famous explorer met his untimely end. Spinner Dolphins visit the bay almost daily, and there is unparalleled snorkeling in this marine sanctuary. After a day of sightseeing or kayaking in the bay, the outdoor shower will wash away the sand along with your cares. The barbeque awaits, as you dine outdoors on the two picnic table as the sun sets on another perfect day in paradise.

Please note that we have a two-week minimum policy for bookings during the Christmas holidays, from December 15 to January 1.

Susan was an incredible and hospitable! Her home was lovely and well cared for and we very much enjoyed our stay. It was a great spot for my 4 year old daughter as well she enjoyed the toys Susan had pulled out and books as well! We really appreciate being able to stay here and my mom is already looking to go back to the Big Island again and stay!

Loved this property - the location, just above Manini Beach, was perfect for morning walks. Loved the little fruit stands along the wayl Susan was very helpful and generous. Our 3-year old grandson loved all the toys. Lots of games and beach equipment. There were 11 of us and we all fit!! Thanks for a wonderful stay, Susan.

Far enough from traffic and bustle to allow relaxation, but close enough to experience all that Hawaii has to offer. Short walk takes you and your coffee to the ocean to watch dolphins.

We loved this rental for our family of four, though we could have doubled our numbers and been comfortable. We like being away from the hustle and bustle of condos and all that, so this was perfect for us. You are a quick walk to a gorgeous bay. Minutes drive to the best snorkeling on the island. An hour-ish drive to other fantastic beaches up and down the coast. The top floor feels like you are in the tree-tops.

Susan was a wonderful host. The house was a great location with a large yard and patio but the road noise can be loud upstairs early in the morning when windows are open. Great place to stay and close to snorkeling.

Loved the location of this house, removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The yard was very natural and we enjoyed experiencing island life (and some of the critters that came along with it). Susan was very welcoming, the house equipped with everything we needed and then some! Appreciated that she put out special toys for the children in our group. Also appreciated that she would accommodate our large group without lots of extra hidden fees like some of the other listings we encountered, greatly appreciated how up front and honest she was! Would definitely rent again!!

The roomy house is located near beautiful Kealakua Bay. The house is cooled by fans, and is delightfuly decorated with a Hawaiian flair. Captain Cook is a wonderful location to stay. Very scenic, but not touristy, and it has just enough access to markets and cafes. The owner was very responsive to our groups' needs. The price was very reasonable.
