Property Description

PLEASE NOTE: DURING THE HOLIDAYS, FROM DECEMBER 15 TO JANUARY 1, WE REQUIRE AT LEAST A TWO-WEEK BOOKING.

"Pathway of the Gods" is the meaning of the name given by ancient Hawaiians to Kealakekua Bay. Five hundred feet from the bay, nestled among the palm trees and fragrant plumeria blossoms is the site of your next vacation. Let us "Big Isle" you!

Hale Hanai is a family-friendly two-story vacation rental home that will give you a taste of old Hawaii, away from the crowds, with a large private yard abounding in fragrant flowers, bananas, and coconuts. 'Hanai' is a word Hawaiians use to designate adopted family. While staying in our home, you are our adopted family.

Upstairs, Mom and Dad can relax and enjoy their own private living room with views of the bay. The Alii (royalty) room is furnished with a California King bamboo canopy bed, a seating area, and a lanai from which to view some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room with a table that seats eight, as well as a china hutch with dishes for that special meal.

Downstairs, there is a separate living room and a small dining table to enjoy a sandwich or snack. The Sandcastle Sanctuary has a queen-size bed and a built-in daybed, perfect to accommodate Grandma and Grandpa or a married child and spouse. The built-in daybed is wonderful for a younger child, and it also makes a great place to sit and enjoy a book while the ocean breezes rustle the curtains and wash your cares away. There is even a portable crib ready for a napping baby, if needed. The Volcano Room sports a double bed, and the decor has been heavily influenced by Madame Pele, the goddess of fire. The Shark Tank Den has a twin bed with aquatic decor that is very kid-friendly. Two queen-size sleeper sofas (one upstairs, one down) round out the sleeping arrangements.

Across the bay is the historic Captain Cook monument that marks the place where the famous explorer met his untimely end. Spinner Dolphins visit the bay almost daily, and there is unparalleled snorkeling in this marine sanctuary. After a day of sightseeing or kayaking in the bay, the outdoor shower will wash away the sand along with your cares. The barbecue awaits, as you dine outdoors on the two picnic tables as the sun sets on another perfect day in paradise.

Please note that we have a two-week minimum policy for bookings during the Christmas holidays, from December 15 to January 1.
