It was our third time staying at this property in Hilo. I absolutely love it here. It's a great neighborhood...mostly quiet even though it is a main road, easy access to different beaches and very spacious. The house has a great layout and was very user friendly. I love the amenities including the washer and dryer, great kitchen, etc., etc., etc.
THE rental is fabulous as everything that you would possibly need for cooking entertaining laundry services safe yard extremely close to multiple beaches very convenient and the managers are extremely easy to work with highly recommended
It’s a quirky older house with lots of character. It’s a great location and is well-furnished. Nice having a standalone house. The noise from frogs and street can be loud, but didn’t bother us much. Only complaint is it was difficult to keep main bedroom at a comfortable temperature (window unit in second bedroom keeps it as cool as you want, but rest of house relies on a mini-split unit in living room).
We fully enjoyed our time in Hilo at the property. It was perfect for our family of four and was in a great location for restaurants, the beach and our day trip to Volcanoes National Park. We would definitely stay here again.
We loved staying at this house. The beaches were walking distance away and had great snorkeling. The house was beautiful, clean and so comfortable. I would highly recommend this place and if we come back I would definitely book again!
The house met all my expectations. Clean, comfortable, and close to all. I highly recommend this location.
Would stay here again without hesitation. This is not just a house, but a home, with the personal feel and scale to match. It was very comfortable for two adults plus separate bed-rooms for two teens. All the details were thought of, from an extra pedestal fan for ventilation to the outdoor storage closet filled with everything from coolers and water shoes to surf-boards and snorkels. The kitchen was well appointed, with the always appreciated basic pantry items and a full collection of condiments in the fridge. Also have to mention the master bath, a generous light-filled corner of the house that highlighted the gardens and greenery outside perfectly. Turning to the grounds outside, there were large mango trees for shade as well as coconut palms, even avocado trees tucked in amidst it all! Spent quite some time just exploring all the plantings around the house. The road out front was periodically busy in the afternoon/evening and on the weekend we were there, but the gated driveway provided a nice separation from it all, and did not obscure the view (and sounds) of the surf breaking on the nearby shore. You cannot always count on vacation rentals to be as advertised, let alone to exceed expectations and actually become a highlight of a trip. This one checked all the boxes and then some. So appreciated!
Nice central location, cute house. Only downside was Saturday and Sunday afternoon cars driving by with blaring music, but that’s no fault of the owner! I can see why quite time is enforced. We live in Hawaii and went to see the volcano so didn’t do any beach activities but it would be easy to do so from the house!
We loved our stay and enjoyed the snorkeling nearby. I think our favorite thing were the birds and frogs as our nightcap. I would highly recommend this home.
Our third time at this beach house and we still love it. It’s always clean, well equipped, airy, and has cool air conditioning if you need it. There’s simply no negatives. Just rent it and relax.
Tucked into a verdant private oasis is this lovely 1930s beach cottage. The inside is warm and wonderful with a large modern kitchen, well stocked, and a generous dining/living with a partial view of the ocean across the road. The interior floors, tiles, and wood detailing throughout make this home gorgeous and comfortable. The large, bright, intricately tiled bathroom off the master was fabulous. We fell in love with the Hilo area and this was a perfect base to explore it from. As an early riser, I walked down to snorkel and swim at two different beaches: Richardson and Carlsmith - both very enjoyable in different ways. We were inspired by the multi-generational local families who frequented these beautiful ocean parks. We were also blessed with a sighting of the eruption in Volcano National Park - which we hiked at on two different days while staying here. Local hint: the BEST fish can be purchased a short drive from this beach house. We dined on Ono, Marlin, and Mahihi. A gem, this one and we hope to return. Aloha to the owners who were very friendly and responsive.
A fantastic home near many beach parks. I already miss hearing the frogs sing. I would return many times over.Mahalo to the owners.
We stayed here for the middle of a two week Hawaii vacation that started and ended in Oahu but the middle of which was Big Island. This was perfectly located near Hilo and convenient to the volcano and waterfalls and a black sand beach we wanted to go to. Ignore any criticism of air conditioning because this was a completely air conditioned house that if anything we were cold at. Likewise any criticism of cleanliness is misplaced this was very clean. The house was great with big open area to hang out in and three good bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of cooking implements and spices and condiments. If we ever come back to Hawaii we are going to spend most of the time on Big Island not Oahu and will try to stay here again.
The layout and the history of this house are one in 1 million. Also, great location.
Our six-day stay wasn’t long enough. I loved this vintage Hawaiian cottage, so inviting and comfortable, spacious, very clean, well-stocked. Lovely property, ocean view, and a welcoming bouquet of anthurium! Bob and I are in our 70’s and have visited Hawaii island at least 6 times since 1982.
Merin and Scott were responsive and helpful
Our third stay at Scott and Merin's lovely home. I had written in the guest book - this is a home, not just a house, which provides for such a comfortable and relaxing stay. This home has a perfect location close to town and all of our favorite beach parks. Thank you both for another great week in Hilo!Jack Simpson and Family
Very well maintained classic home in a very convenient location, walkable to beach parks and close to Hilo. Very well equipped house with everything you could possibly need. Road noise was a factor , but the house being set back from the road helped.
Photos of the property are a good representation we found. We are fans of the Keaukaha area, having vacationed in this area over the last 15 years. Be forewarned that the traffic noise can be loud on the weekend.Overall, a well equipped kitchen, but we found the stove settings were difficult to control and a decent sized sauce/sauté pan was lacking.I encourage the host to offer all cotton sheets with bedding considering this climate.Overall, a very nice stay.
Lovely cozy home close to black sand beaches.
The house was spacious, kitchen well stocked, beds were comfortable, grounds were pretty. The two bathrooms are on separate water heaters, and there is only enough hot water for one person to shower per bathroom. The second people get cold water.
We loved our stay at this delightful property. The bedrooms were cozy and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen was fun to cook in—spacious, light filled, well stocked. We loved being able to walk to the beach parks. The location was perfect, and easy to travel to and from. This is just a perfect little house. We would definitely recommend it!
Three childhood friends spent 2 nights at the beach house. Location is near shoreline accesses and a short distance from Richardson's Beach Park. The house is a beautiful old-style home and was spotless. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped. Although located on the main road, the front wall and gate provided complete privacy and insulation from any car noise. We enjoyed sitting in the front yard each evening - no bugs! I will definitely plan a return visit!
This home is charming throughout, spacious, and well-appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed for our family stay. Management was very communicative and accommodating to our questions. One of us was working at the University during our stay, and the commute there and into the downtown area was an easy 5-minute drive. Hilo's great city beaches and tide pools are on the same street as the house, super easy to access anytime of day. Thank you for an excellent stay!
Gorgeous island house in wonderful location. Perfect for a family visit to the Big Island!
Very clean, homey and welcoming. Walking distance to beaches Carl Smith or Richardson.
Living in Hilo when I was in grade school and spend my honeymoon on the Big Island staying there made it extra special.
This was a great house to stay at as a base camp for exploring Hilo! Our family of 4 was very comfortable and the proximity to nice beaches (with excellent turtle watching) was wonderful. Having a covered parking spot was nice as it was raining when we were leaving- but everything stayed dry. Thanks for a great stay!
Very convenient, great to return to at the end of the day. Beautiful bathroom, wonderful bed.
Came to Hilo for Great Aunt's 99th bday. Great stay at the house with lots of swimming in the ocean
