Nalo Cottage is a two room garden cottage, a half block from one of the best beaches in Hawaii. It is located in a quiet neighborhood still evocative of old Hawaii. The comfortable cottage has ten foot ceilings and approximately 760 square feet of living space. Each room has a separately controlled ductless air conditioner.

The cottage is at the rear of a property of slightly more than a quarter acre. The cottage is equipped with wifi, basic cable tv, linens, bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and toys, boogie boards, and miscellaneous snorkeling equipment in various sizes. It has its own Weber bar-b-que and private patio. The washer and dryer is shared use. We provide a starter kit of paper goods and cleaning supplies.

We regret at this time, due to restrictions imposed by the Honolulu City Council to limit short term vacation rentals, we cannot accept bookings for less than 30 days. Guests, however, are not required to stay the entire 30 days.

We spent six years looking throughout the Hawaiian Islands for a place to call home and fell in love with Waimanalo. It is not a tourist area and retains the character of a Hawaiian town. Our neighbors are friendly and we respect them. The spectacular white sand beach is uncrowded and protected from commercial activity. Waimanalo is predominantly agricultural. There are many farms and nurseries across the highway from us on the mountain side. Waimanalo's produce and eggs are justly famous. But we are still able to attend concerts and cultural events in Honolulu, explore Oahu's great culinary scene, snorkel in Hanauma Bay, hike to the lighthouse, walk in the botanical gardens at the University of Hawaii, go shopping occasionally, and have access to great medical care. All these are easy to do from our home. Honolulu and Waikiki are 30 minutes away, and Kailua 15 minutes, by car.

There is plenty of free parking in the driveway.

We cannot accommodate smoking anywhere on the property.

A word about critters, who love the tropics as much as we do: The cottage is professionally cleaned before each guest arrives. We occasionally get small ants, geckos, or even a cockroach in the cottage. We use a non-toxic environmentally safe spray in the cottage. Periodically, we will spray the exterior with Raid or similar product. If you leave food out, you will have visitors.

The cleaning fee includes a second cleaning midway through ...

Everything about this listing was just perfect! Description and photos were 100% accurate. Hosts are welcoming and very accommodating, friendly but at the same time provide guests with space and privacy. The cottage is chic and simple while providing everything needed - full kitchen supplies, new and updated appliances, beach chairs and towels, umbrellas, cooler, and boogie board. Location is breezy and AC is often not needed, but available throughout the cottage. And beach is a 5 minute walk away! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and plan to return!

Was the perfect place for us, close to Kaimanalo Beach, quiet neighborhood even with a rooster, lovely hosts and a garden to enjoy whenever we sat out with family for dinner.

Terri & Hal are great people. We really enjoyed getting to visit with them and staying at their property. It was everything they advertised. Everything we needed to make our 30th anniversary trip special was provided. Stayed 30 days and there was plenty of room. It is decorated so cute with a beach feel. Very comfortable king size bed and large closet, air conditioning (although don’t need it too often due to lots of windows & breeze) full kitchen with everything and large walk-in shower plus a jetted tub. Great patio outside area surrounded by all types of tropical plants. Even had papaya and banana trees and large grill and outdoor lighting. Not a beach view but you definitely feel like you are in Hawaii when you’re outside with all the plants. Beach access is literally at the end of the street. About 7 houses down. So close. And this beautiful beach was never crowded in this area, not even Memorial Day weekend. There were people but you didn’t feel like you were right next to them like on Waikiki Beach. This beach is a hidden gem. This is a neighborhood so you feel like a local. A lot of days I could see maybe 10 people on the beach, depending on the time of day. Not a touristy area (which is what we wanted) but so close to Kailua. Also, the last couple of days we didn’t have a car so we took the bus to Kailua and then again to Waikiki. The bus stop is at the end of the street so it was very easy access. Loved that they also provided beach chairs, beach towels, ice chest, umbrella, beach blanket, boogie boards & a wagon for it all. We also had access to washer and dryer which was great. BBQ with their uncle Peter & family was fun. We will definitely be back and stay here. We felt like it was our home away.

Hal and Terri were exceptional hosts. We enjoyed our chats and meals with them. SO thankful to Terri for letting my husband help with gardening. The cottage and garden were an absolute joy to spend time in. And a perfect location, a block away from an awesome beach. Would absolutely recommend this place.

My wife and I spent five nights here for our honeymoon. Great accommodations and plenty of space for living in. The hosts were absent during our stay, but their uncle was staying in the main house on the property and he had tons of recommendations and helpful tips for us! Also the cottage is in a great location. It’s not too long of a drive to go to Waikiki, but also easy access up the eastern coast and to the north shore. Highly recommend this place to stay!
