When we moved to Hawai'i in 1989 our journey started in Volcano Village outside of the National Park. In 2000 we moved our karma and love for the 'aina (land) to Honoli'i. When you visit our home we hope you engender the same feelings we have: peace, serenity and the knowledge that Pele and Kanaloa watch over the Big Island and the special piece of it we mind for them.

When we bought this property we completely remodeled it from the ground up. It has state of the art finishes throughout and is meant to provide a tranquil respite for Lisha and I after we complete our work with the Foreign Service. It's a place for families to gather together and celebrate what's important.

When you walk in through the custom front door, you will start to see the design features and art immediately. Large spaces and endless light fill the area which include the living room, kitchen, dining area and lanai. On this main level there are two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two twins.

Take the staircase downstairs and you enter the realm of the sixty by twenty foot wide Family Suite. It has a queen bed and a king size bed in the sleeping area. The beds aren’t visible from each other but there no additional privacy. The beautiful bathroom has a free standing tub while the toilet is in a separate room. Then there is my personal favorite, a double shower which is also a steam room. There is a second, fully covered lanai on this level as well. Just outside the bedroom's side door there is an outdoor shower looking over the ocean.

Cooling is provided by ceiling and floor fans in all rooms. If you open the sliding doors the trade winds keep it comfortable. Between June and August it can be hot and muggy on a few days which is part of being in Hawai’i. We do not have AC nor do most homes in East Hawai'i.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need. Please note that housekeeping removes condiments and food when cleaning so please bring what you require. Please be aware that our insurance does NOT allow for charcoal or gas grills and BBQs.

Like all of East Hawai’i we have coqui frogs chirping at night. Depending on the night they can be loud. Most guests find the sound pleasing while others not so much!

The view is beautiful and we loved hearing the sound of the waves crashing. Centrally located to many attractions in the area.

Awesome house, perfect location. Brian couldn’t be a more gracious host. My only complaint is the trees are overgrown and they block the amazing view. Other than that, perfect house. Highly recommend.

We had a great experience — clear and easy to follow guidance from the owner, large and clean house with a beautiful view and the sound of the surf, no problems or difficulties!

Great house! Well stocked including boogie boards. Architecture and position on the lot helped keep the house comfortable in late June with the cool breeze off the ocean. Ocean breaking below was very tranquil. Great beach down the road. Quiet neighborhood.

Great house for a family to spread out - spent much of the time on lanai - nice breeze - quiet all but the sounds of the ocean and spring peepers at night. Neighborhood just minutes from Hilo town where you will find ridiculously delicious restaurants.

House was clean, well maintained, and able to accommodate large family with kids. Surroundings are beautiful and what you imagine when you think of Hawaii. Host was very responsive and helpful. We very much enjoyed our family trip!

This property was gorgeous and in a stunning location. We could see waves crashing right below us and surfers in the water down the coast. Easy access to volcano National park, black sand beaches and rainforest. Out of busy tourist area. Quiet.

The rental process was easy. Access was easy. The house was clean and copious amenities were available. The location was central to many of our experiences. We felt like we were able to really learn the roads and felt accomplished when we were able to find our way without using Maps. The ocean right outside of most windows and doors was exactly what I wanted and the sound of the waves was perfect for sleep. Very loud at times but so what? Loud in a really good way. No problem with bugs, even when I did leave the screens open. Exploring the yard was fun - found the banana tree and had some wildlife visit. Just a lot of fun and a lot to explore. We had a wonderful trip. Thank you.

Nice home. Spacious and well maintained. Easy access to Hilo and Volcanos National Park. We loved the BIg Island and would stay here again!
