The location was great and the beds were comfy, but that was about it. The basic street noise was not a problem but the homeless disturbances and the locals loud music was. Not having AC was known but we did not consider you cant close the windows to block out the extra noise. We could not hear the TV or sleep in the front room. If the place was AMAZINGLY remodeled and HAD AC you can offset the negatives. The owners need to finish the remodel and get rid of the carpet! Last, I called Grand Welcome to get out of the reservation after the 1st day and they did not call me back. I learned my lesson, not to stay at a place that does not have a local Superhost. Other property notes: Place was clean enough with a couple of exceptions. Bath floor mats were dirty. Top of stove was greasy. All the beach items were covered in sand or mold. The chairs on the deck in the picture were missing. The WIFI never worked. In short, a 2 of 5 star, only because it got the job done.
Prefect location; great view and beautifully furnished
For the most part, this is a great place. The location can’t be beat if you want a great view and close proximity to restaurants and shopping. Check in instructions were inaccurate and confusing. . A door that was supposed to be unlocked was not. Luckily I was able to figure out where I needed to go. The listing does not reflect that this property is not very accessible. Stairs are necessary to access the parking level. The reviews that note the traffic noise are very accurate. The unit was clean but dated. The beds were comfortable.
The views from the second story unit are nice. 10 power lines block some though. The ocean sound is wonderful but hard to hear most of the time from the constant street noise. Loud trucks with massive speaker systems cruising into the AM hours and jolting you awake. If the unit had AC you can close the deck doors and not hear very much. We had to have all windows open to get cross ventilation. We had some issues with how clean the unit was when we arrived. It took 3 days to get cleaners out to clean the vents duct dust, floors and mold in the shower. The cleaners were super nice people and did a great job. We had three texts from quality control about a sensor going off inside the unit they had to check on while we were out. This was pretty annoying and r ally didn’t give us much privacy. The worst part of the stay was dealing with Grand Welcome. After we booked they sent us a two
Page document to sign. We disnt want to sign it and didn’t have no choice since we already paid. We also had problems with ants and cockroaches. There were roach and ant trap disks everywhere in the property. We couldn’t leave food out and ended up throwing many things away as they got into Everything. We tried to cancel the remainder of stay because of issues but Grand Welcome wasn’t so welcoming to that idea. We called VRBO over 35 times sent 42 emails. 4 days later they offered us Pennie’s on what we paid to cancel. Grand Welcome holds money and control everything leaving VRBO with no way to help
My wife and I are frequent visitors to Kona and love this location, right on Ali'i Dr in the heart of downtown near many of our favorite restaurants and shops. We've stayed in this particular unit before and appreciate the Murphy bed - my wife and I sleep just fine on it while our child sleeps in the master bedroom. The check-in process is very clear and easy, you have assigned parking, and there is an elevator to make getting your luggage up to the room super easy. While staying here, keep in mind that Ali'i Dr can be quite loud from around 8pm to 10pm and this is not the fault of the property, it just comes with the territory as cars and people make their way home after a night out or from their jobs. As city people, we quite enjoy it and will sit on the lanai overlooking all the action and play cards while people-watching. The noise quiets down and when you wake up, you can hear the waves crashing across the street, which is just magical. With this as your base while in Kona, you're in easy walking distance to the farmer's market, the Coconut Grove area for coffee, shave ice, and all your meals along with beach volleyball, and the Kona Pier the other direction. Such a fun spot and we already can't wait until our next visit.
The location was great and for the most part things were as advertised. There were some issues with the sliding door to the laundry room / bathroom and the glasses in the kitchen were not really usable do to age, they actually affected the taste of what was in them.
We would stay again however as the positives out weighed the negatives.
We stayed here with friends from the mainland. Everything you need is nearby. Keep in mind it is on Alii Drive so there isnstreet noise and traffic in the evening (but also great people watching).
just a really pleasant & affordable place to stay
The location was perfect! You could walk to restaurants, bars, coffee shops, shopping, whale watch from lanai. Beautiful view .NO AC, very loud street traffic if you keep doors open to try and cool room down. Two beds the master bed is very firm and the Murphy bed soft. Room has washer/dryer combo nice to have. The room could use spring cleaning. The walls had grease splatter / stains and the bedding needed cleaned there were stains on both comforters. Overall the location and view 5 stars the room comforter and cleanliness 3 stars. We had a great 10 days. Thank you!
Was the perfect location for the race.. close walk to pier and located on run course. Close to restaurants.
Did have an issue with the washer/dryer but contacted management company and they were able to fix it by Wednesday of our stay.
Place was very nice.. the place did not have AC but we had good ocean breeze that kept thing tolerable.
Enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back
