Property Description
Welcome to Koni Kai, Hawaiian translation: Passionate Sea. Koni Kai is a beautifully designed, very comfortable oceanfront home. Considerable time and effort has been spent to ensure Koni Kai is equipped with everything one might want/need while on vacation.
Koni Kai is perched on an ancient lava flow on the South Kona coast in Milolii, the oldest fishing village in Hawaii. If you are looking for nightlife (other than some of the best constellation viewing on the planet), then this is probably not the place for you. If, however, you are seeking a luxurious personal refuge that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation, then you have found your perfect vacation destination at Koni Kai. Located 30 miles south of Kailua-Kona and just an hour’s drive from Volcano National Park, Koni Kai provides the perfect home base to lounge all day on the 1000 square foot sundeck, explore nearby black and green sand beaches, experience the dramatically different eco-systems in the rainforests near Hilo, or hike the volcano to search for petroglyphs and watch active red lava flow into the ocean. Regardless of how you choose to spend your days, you will be welcomed back to Koni Kai with some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world, the perfect backdrop for the dramatically rugged landscape.
In the winter months (approximately November thru March), you will be able to sit on the sundeck and watch Humpback whales migrate, spinner dolphins perform and the occasional green sea turtle swim up to say hello. Some of the best snorkeling, diving and fishing can be found directly in front of the house due to a coral reef that spans the north side of the bay.
While we would hope the majority of your vacation is spent “un-plugged” from the chaos of the rest of the world, we understand there will be occasions when you need to check-in, so complimentary Wi-Fi internet and high-definition satellite television are provided. A brand-new, state of the art water filtration system, to include UV light, has been installed. The kitchen includes a Wolf gas range, Kenmore oven and microwave, Bosch dishwasher and every small appliance we could think of. There is also a laundry area with a brand new Whirlpool Duet hi-efficiency washer and dryer.
Koni Kai welcomes you with much Aloha, now and for all your future Hawaii visits. Please contact us with any questions you may have – we look forward to making your stay as pleasant and memorable as possible.

You know the place is great when her husband texts the kids and says the following: Mom picked a beautiful spot for our last 7 days! We can walk 100 yards to snorkel, and the VRBO is almost unbelievable. Aloha!!!

We stayed 5 nights. We were aware that we needed to grocery shop before arriving and did so. However, there are always a couple of items that you are unsure if they will be left behind by previous renters such as cooking oil, butter, various herbs and spices. This after arriving we needed to pick up a few items. We went to the Oceanview Market that others had written about. We later realized that the closest markets and gas stations are actually back north. A helpful detail to know. This house is perfect for one couple. I would not want to be second couple or have a child with me. The open layout of the house is wonderful unless you are wanting privacy. With just the two of us privacy was not an issue. The kitchen could use a few more utensils such as garlic press, salad spinner, brownie sized baking pan. However, most items were there and we were able to make do and work around missing items. The snorkeling is indeed just two lots away. Although, at this time of year, you need to wait for a very calm day to enter safely. If was not until day 4 that we were able to get in. When we did, the snorkeling had a nice variety of fish and few human companions. Initially, we spent a great deal of time driving to other locations to snorkel, take historical tours, and National Parks. Near the end of our stay we discovered MilioliiBeach Park. On the weekends there is a food stand open with great food and the best prices on the island. The longer we stayed the more.

Throughly enjoyed the home for our six day stay. I'd highlight the back deck for the sunset views and the 24-7 ocean waves. We even saw a few whales as they went by (usually the hour before sunset) A great place to star gaze if you happen to be here on a moonless night. You do get used to the long winding road/drive down to the property (although it can be intimidating after dark). There was a nearly constant ocean breeze during our stay. I'd recommend opening the screened windows and slider doors for the fresh breeze to flow thru the house. Only a couple of mosquitos were encountered outside the whole week. We'd love to and plan to stay again.

Loved this location. The sounds alone transported me to a relaxed state. The road from the belt road to the property is a mountain path covered in asphalt so driving at night is slow. The drive is more than worth it. There is a beach a short drive and short hike away that can't be missed. There was one person on the beach other then me when I walked down. It was the best beach I saw on the island. The home is clean, well kept, and begs keeping the doors and windows open at all times. There are coffee farms and volcano access within a short drive on the main road. I will return.

This is exactly what we were looking for in our first trip to the Big Island. On the ocean and experience the lava flow from the Volcano National Park. Sarah was fantastic and super responsive. The house was amazing. We were able to fall asleep easily to the crashing waves against the rocks.
Full disclosure, if you aren't used to Hawaii roads and switch backs, please note the drive to the property may be a challenge for you but no different than the Appalachian area on the mainland.
The lanai was amazing to play cards, watch the sunset, and then the amazing night sky with so little light pollution you can take in all the constellations.
We were very pleased with our visit to the Big Island and staying at this property.

Our stay was so incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The neighborhood is very quiet and perfect for walking any time of day taking in the breathtaking views of the ocean. No whale sightings but the dolphins sure did put on a show as we watched from the expansive deck. The bed was SO comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed.

The house has a beautiful view, and the deck is amazing. The house was very clean. When we were there, there were lots of mosquitoes and we had to use mosquito repellent frequently. There were times that we had to go inside as we kept getting bitten even with repellent. The sunsets were amazing and despite the mosquitoes, we enjoyed staying in the house. It is far from everywhere. Shop on your way there as it is a long way to a store to get more provisions.
The primary bedroom is right off the living room and has sliding doors to the living room. It has a great view and the shower looks out over the deck to the ocean. The room itself is not very private as it has no ceiling and is open to the rest of house.
The other bedroom is on the small side and has a very comfortable bed.
The kitchen is great, easy to use and has just about everything you might want to cook. We enjoyed making dinner there.
It was a great place to spend a week and it’s a great house. Just know before you go that it’s far from everything and that there are mosquitoes!

Loved this property. The amazing views from every room of the home were amazing. Nice and secluded - just like I wanted. Had a rental car so we were still able to tour so many beautiful sights on the island.

You cannot get better views than you can with this house. As mentioned in the description, yes, it’s out of town and the drive off the main road might be awkward the first time you go down it. But once down at the house, you’ll forget all about that. If you want to just unwind, disconnect and enjoy the gorgeous blue ocean, book now.
Sarah and her team are amazing and respond in a very timely manner, if needed. They all take great pride in the property

This beach house is in a great location. The house is clean, great kitchen, 2 bathrooms with amenities. The beds and pillows are very comfortable.
AMAZING VIEWS. Our last 2 days we watched whales.
The night sky offered plenty of stars. Beach front property. We cannot wait to return.
