We have rented other vacation properties in Hawaii, and this house stands out because not only does the design allow all bedrooms to have a view of the ocean, but the second floor also has a very private main bed and bath, both with amazing expansive views of the ocean and He’eia Bay. The openness of the kitchen/dining/living room with views of the ocean is wonderful. The shutters and screens are all automatic. Every significant amenity worked, which I cannot say about previous rentals. The significant amenities that worked include the outdoor hot tub (written instructions on how to turn on would be useful), the beautiful pool which was a great temperature, the dishwasher, the oven, the BBQ, the TV, the multiple refrigerated and freezer drawers, the refrigerator and freezer, and the air conditioning in all the bedrooms. Again, it is important to note that in every other rental that we have stayed in on Hawaii, something major did not work, and we did not get any refund for the constant hassles of repeated worker visits and the inconvenience. Which brings me to privacy. During the week we stayed, the only strangers in the yard were the pool cleaners and the gardeners. I only saw them one day for a short time (the pool people may have gone twice). The gardeners asked permission to mow the lawn before they did so. Extremely thoughtful of them. In another Hawaii rental, the gardeners did several days of noisy tree trimming and then left all the branches on the ground so that we could no longer walk in the yard. In another Hawaii rental, the dishwasher didn’t work for a week, and the promised housekeeper never showed up. That’s why Uma (the owner) and Saul (her real estate agent who toured us around the house) are so special: they actually care. I’m afraid to say how wonderful this house is because then I won’t be able to rent it again because it will be so much in demand. I like to reward competence, however, and this house is stellar because enough people cared about it to keep it running well. Besides the upstairs main bedroom, there is a downstairs bedroom off the living room, a bedroom off the dining room, and a study which is accessible through the garage and has a Murphy bed (a double?) and its own outside door and landing with two chairs overlooking the pool and ocean. This property is not good for children as there is no railing on most of the wall that fronts the ocean, but that’s also why the view is astounding! We will be back soon!
