Absolutely wonderful place! The ocean breezes, the songbirds, the view, the welcoming host -- all were fantastic. Definitely would stay again.
Great location. Very safe and Very quiet. Stay here if you're a nature lover or a bird watcher. Not for people who want clean rooms every day or who are used to staying at resorts.
The owner of the property was communicating with us from 2 weeks prior to our visit. This was our 3rd time visiting the Big Island, we love Hawaii’s fruits, beaches and snorkeling, the big Island has more than enough of those. This home is located on a beautiful farm with flowers and different fruits (mainly mangoes) Best mangoes we’ve ever tasted, dark orange looking. (The ones found on the floor were the sweetest) the birds were really funny, and the geckos were really friendly. We wanted a little cottage in nature and that’s what we got. Our favorite part about our time at this rental was getting to know the owner, we’ve never gotten to know the owner of any rental. Charles is a real nice honest guy, and very authentic. Will miss him, his farm, and the little cottage. Thank you for the great experience.
This was the perfect romantic place to stay for our 35 wedding anniversary celebration. The cottage is cozy, comfortable and secluded; the lanai is the perfect place to sip coffee while listening to the birds and watching the ocean in the distance. Charles is a wonderful host -- he made special efforts to make the place perfect for us, and was always a phone call away when we needed something. And the location is wonderful: 2 minutes from quiet, beautiful Manini Beach; 5 minutes away from Honunaunau Bay (Two Step), which is the best snorkeling spot in the entire state (and free!); minutes away from Captain Cook (with the Coffee Shack and a number of good restaurants and AMAZING views); and 15 minutes outside of Kailua-Kona. We absolutely recommend this cottage for a romantic getaway!!!
The place is very rundown. The lanai furniture is disgusting ,oven didn’t work. The pictures are old,This place really needs to be pulled off the market fixed and updated, The place wasn’t clean. The garbage outside was still full from the last occupant not very much room to put our garbage.
The location is great as long as you have a car for the short trips to town and the ocean. Check in was easy, just keep in touch and it's easy. The fresh mangoes and abundant colorful bird activity were highlights. Even though not in the listing, there were a variety of snorkel gear in good shape for use, along with chairs and beach towels. There's also a blender for use in making fruity rum drinks (or others as you wish). The screened deck area was where we spent most of our time watching the wildlife and being more in nature. The owner is responsive to reports of any issues, and we enjoyed talking to him. Be sure to set your expectations accordingly. This isn't some fancy resort where everything is new and shiny. There is plenty of "character" in the cottage, from the many different light switches, to eclectic furniture and nick knacks. It's a small farm cottage, so enjoy it for being just that! With this in mind, we really enjoyed our time here and are looking forward to a time when we can return.
Great home base for visits to Honaunau and Kealakekua Bay, or just hanging out on the spacious lanai enjoying the countryside quiet, birdsong, and transforming clouds over the not-so-distant ocean. All we needed was provided. We loved the geckos!
Hotel Pa’amalu is a rustic, beautiful place to stay and Kaimalu is a wonderful host. The spot is remote, allowing for a peaceful time to listen to birdsong and look out to the ocean view. The home itself is beautifully designed, as the open air flow from the ocean breeze was enough to keep us cool.,I cannot get over how this place was perfect for a relaxing getaway that’s off the beaten path. If you don’t mind the occasional gecko and you’re looking for a sign as to where to stay on the Big Island, this is it.
Wonderful quiet location perfect location for all our activities. Lots of birds and quick communication with host. Will stay again next trip
The perfect place for two, in a wonderful location!!
This little place has everything you could wish for in south Kona. Beautiful views of the ocean; you can walk to down Napo’opo’o Road to the water (about 3/4 mi - the road has no shoulder, but it is doable); and array of vegetation on site including mango trees, orchids, palm trees, etc - we had the best oranges picked right off the tree. The building itself is very open with a screened-in lanai, where you can watch the sun set, and a fountain just outside that attracts all sorts of birds. It has an islandy vibe overall, but if you don’t like sharing space with geckos, this is not the place for you. The bed is pretty firm, fyi. Kai is a great, laid-back host. We found the place very relaxing and hope we can come back again!
Great property. Fresh mangos and friends like gecko’s and birds. Just a note, get there before dark. A bit hard to find. But the owner is next door a bit and got us there by cell phone. Loved the house.
We had a wonderful stay at the cozy cabin. We enjoyed the geckos and beautiful birds, and the lovely warm breezes and views were stunning. There was plenty of beach equipment to use and a fully-functional kitchen. Charles was hospitable and very welcoming. Would definitely recommend this quaint and lovely cabin.
Quiet and private. Close to two step for good snorkeling
This is a peaceful, private setting since the farm isn't being intensively. We especially enjoyed sitting on the screened back deck watching a variety of birds frolic in the continuously running water feature.
Beautiful location, close to fabulous snorkeling spots. The host, Charles, is great and responsive. Great for a couple.
Special place, quiet, abundant nature, screened porch with ocean sunset view,
amazing bird bath fountain, green geckos, beautiful, serene and close to the good snorkelling. Charles the host greeted me with Aloha.
If you are looking to get away and off the beaten path, a bit, you will be hard pressed to find a better spot so close to the bay and 2 steps while staying among mango orchards. Great atmosphere and great host.
Kai (Charles) was an extremely friendly and accommodating host. Very knowledgeable of the area. Was cool staying near all the mango trees! Thanks Kai!
Great little cottage for a Big Island stay. Very comfortable bed, wonderful open-air veranda. Kitchen is a little bit long in the tooth, but well equipped. Would stay there again on future trips.
We loved it so much, we extended the first trip, and will book our return ASAP !
This little cabin is just perfect. We’re re-booking immediately. Shhhh, or everyone will know…
