Property Description
Situated facing east to catch the prevailing tradewinds, as well as the morning sunrise, and evening moonrise, the top-rated Hale Ke Kua (Tradewinds House) is a memorable way to relax, unwind and enjoy East Hawaii. Situated on a full acre only 400 yards from the ocean, you can hear the surf break, the whales sing, while enjoying the privacy that only comes with an one house on an entire acre.
Built in 2016, this 3-bedroom 2-bath home offers all the quality and amenities you would need for a great experience, from the high-end stainless appliances and cookware in the kitchen, dining tables for six in the house and on the lanai, 65" TV with Amazon Firestick streaming, as well as a 50" TV in the master suite. The Wi-Fi is 400Mbit+ via Hawaii Telecom, and there is a computer desk, second monitor and mesh office chairs in the 3rd bedroom. There are dual facing loveseats in the living room, and luxurious memory foam mattresses in the individually decorated bedrooms indoors. On the 400 ft2 covered lanai, are a couch, chairs, and seating and dining for six plus an outdoor kitchen, complete with an undercounter refrigerator, sink and Weber gas grill - permanently plumbed into the house propane - no tanks to fill.
Without leaving the property a 12' X 40' salt-water lap pool, outdoor shower, and even a regulation size bocce ball court are just outside the doors.
Less than 30 minutes to south is Pohoiki Beach - the newest beach on earth, a 1/2 crescent of black sand. A must see, along with the Crater at Kilauea. If time and weather align, a guided tour to the top of 13,900 foot Mauna Kea will provide views, a sunset and stargazing experiences available nowhere else on Earth.
We are located about 12 miles south of Hilo, and 10-12 miles by air north of the 2018 Leilani Estates eruption in Lava Zone 1. We are in Lava Zone 3 : 1-5% of Zone 3 has been covered since 1800. We are upwind from the volcanoes, and the tradewinds blow any volcanic gasses away from us. We are also in the HPP 'Banana Belt', receiving about half the annual rainfall of Hilo while typically being 2-4 degrees warmer.

This tropical getaway home is a perfect VRBO rental for a family or couple visiting the Pahoa/Hilo area. The home has everything you need, including a wonderful refreshing pool. All you need is your clothes and groceries. The home has a security system and locking entrance gates. Even an extra friendly cat to greet you when you come and go!

The hosts did an excellent job communicating and making sure their home had everything you need to enjoy your stay (ok coffee drinkers please know you have the Keurig or a French Press with coffee grinder). The house, grounds and pool are just beautiful. Great place to stay to see East side of island, Hilo and Volcano so close! I’d love to come back here!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The home is beautifully decorated and accommodating. The pool is a real plus as well. We come to the big island from time to time and, if possible, we'll stay here in the future.

Hawaiian Paradise was the name of the area of the house and the house lived up to the name. Beautiful interior and exterior with a fabulous pool. Lanai had everything we needed including bbq, fridge, and sink. Also included was a local cat, Cheeto, who was as friendly as can be. Our week here was the best.

Great property and exactly as described. Private and secure with a wonderful outdoor space. We spent 5 of our 7 evenings exploring and trying the recipes cleverly provided by our house hosts. (They were all pretty awesome!). We enjoyed eating and coking on the lanai. The pool was pretty great as well. Very comfortable beds, the house is well furnished, clean, neat and super comfortable. The location of the house is just a few blocks from the shore line, with great views. We got up early enough ti catch the sunrise on a few mornings. We brought our road cycles and rode directly from the house for some pretty epic rides along the old government trail.

The house was a bit out of the way but worth it. A beautiful, clean home with a nice salt water pool! It had all we needed to make meals. The beds were comfy too. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, well maintained, well stocked home. Even had flashlights to borrow to walk through Kaumana Caves lava tubes. The welcome pack booklet is very detailed and helped with so much. I am a cat lover and they even had provided some cat food for a couple of local cat visitors. One of whom was quite friendly, we all enjoyed petting him when he came around.

The property was beautiful, the amount of supplies and games it was stocked with was amazing. You literally don’t have to bring anything but your change of clothes. My family enjoyed staying in instead of going out. It was the perfect place to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with my adult kids especially with my son being back home from the military and getting to spend his 1st holiday with his family since he was deployed for 6 years and for all my adult kids to enjoy one another. They loved all the games and the pool and always had something to do. The property was clean and amenities was well provided. It’s in a quiet neighborhood away from noise and very peaceful. We are already planning our next trip as we didn’t have enough time to tour the island since we stayed in most of the time lol! This has been the best I’ve seen so far 😃

A truly wonderful home in paradise. Great indoor and outdoor spaces for hanging out, dining, grilling and swimming. The modern kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Comfortable bed and we slept well at night. Quiet location great for exploring the east side of the Big Island. Easy to communicate with hosts.

We had a wonderful stay at this house. We were there for 8 days and could’ve stayed longer. We had a great time exploring the area, which is off the beaten path and gave us a good taste of local life. We loved the maku’u farmers market on Sunday. The house was very functional- clearly the owners live here part time and have the place set up so that you have everything you. The picture don’t do it justice.

This was the finest place we’ve ever stayed in while in the islands. We all appreciated the upscale furnishings and appliances. Loved the silky-feeling water in the pool. Thank you for all your thoughtful details and care provided! We did not need to communicate with the property manager.

This home has everything you could need for an enjoyable stay near Hilo. The hosts were fast at communication leading up to our stay and provided a detailed manual for the use of the home along with general guidance on local Hawaiian living.
We used the saltwater pool every day of our stay! The landscaping is beautiful and property is large in a quiet neighborhood. All of the beds were comfortable. Falling asleep to the croque frogs and waking up to the roosters and birds made for the most restful sleep. We had 5 adults staying and we travelled here to visit local friends and attend their wedding. This home was a great place to spend our time on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Thank you for the great space!

The house was nice, clean, and peaceful. It is a nice property that almost seems secluded. The pool was awesome and we spent the majority of our time at the house on the lanai and in the pool.

This property was a great place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool. The house has many thoughtful items that make you feel welcome and at home. There is some neighborhood noise from the lot across the street being developed and the pool pump sounded like it was struggling. Wish there was one full length mirror in the house. And a regular coffee maker would have made the place perfect (we did use the French press instead of the Keurig). Thank you Richard and Bev for sharing your place.
