The space
Welcome to Mana House, a fully functional solar-powered, rain-fed, open-air home tucked in the coastal jungle along the historic Red Road. This stretch of coast is one of the last untouched parts of the Big Island. It's a glimpse of Old Hawai‘i that still moves to its own rhythm. Spend your days exploring hidden tide pools, lava formations, secret beaches, and geothermal hot ponds just minutes away.
Designed for travelers who crave connection with nature, creativity, and authenticity, this second-story, 3 bedroom home has treehouse vibes and offers 1,600 square feet of open living space with a private entrance. The screened wraparound lanai seamlessly blends the beauty of the outdoors with modern comforts. Let the trade winds carry the scent of rain and ocean through the house.
Inside, you’ll find three bedrooms, one-and-a-half bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a handcrafted mango-wood breakfast bar perfect for morning coffee. When evening comes, share local grindz around the farm-style dining table under soft light and a canopy of stars.

Your Friendly, Laid-Back Island Hosts
We’re locals who love good music, good food, and good company — and we’re here to make sure your time at Mana House is as relaxed and memorable as the island itself. We live downstairs, love to “talk story,” and are always down for a laugh, a jam session, or a quick island tip. You’ll have total privacy upstairs, but we’re close by if you need anything.
With no close neighbors, the setting is relaxed and well-suited for groups who want to laugh, play music, share meals, and enjoy time together respectfully. Relax, unwind, and ease into island time. You’re on vacation, and our hope is simple: that your stay at Mana House feels magical, restorative, and full of aloha.

Explore the Neighborhood
Mana House sits along the legendary Red Road on the Puna coast — one of the last untouched stretches of the Big Island. No resorts. No crowds. Just jungle, lava, and ocean.
The neighborhood feels like stepping back in time to Old Hawai‘i, where the pace is slow, neighbors look out for one another, and everyone still waves when they drive by. It’s a funky, creative community filled with artists, musicians, and free spirits who’ve chosen to live close to the land and far from the ordinary.
Within minutes of Mana House, you’ll find hidden tide pools, fresh lava formations from the 2018 Kīlauea eruption, secret picnic beaches, and naturally heated geothermal hot ponds.

Nearby Highlights
Pohoiki Geothermal Hot Ponds
At the end of the Red Road lies Pohoiki, where new black sand meets volcanic heat and ocean spray. The geothermal ponds here were shaped by the 2018 eruption, creating one of the island’s most unique places to soak. Best enjoyed at high tide, this spot blends raw power and calm in perfect balance.
Kehena Black Sand Beach
Kehena Black Sand Beach is a wild and beautiful local beach known for its dramatic setting, Sunday drum circle, and clothing-optional culture. Just a few minutes down the road with good vibes all around.
Secret Beaches, Hikes, and Tide Pools
Beyond the known spots are hidden coves, lava-edge tide pools, and shoreline trails that few ever find. These are the quiet places — perfect for sunrise coffee, ocean dips, or simply watching the waves. We’ll share our local favorites when you arrive.
Kalani Retreat Center
Just a short walk from Mana House, Kalani is a vibrant wellness and creative retreat center that has long been the cultural heartbeat of the Red Road. Grab a coffee, ice cream, or snack at Kalani’s Hale Aloha Snack Shop, enjoy the ocean view, or check the Kalani website for yoga, movement, wellness classes, massage, bodywork, and Sunday Ecstatic Dance.
Uncle Robert’s & Kalapana
A short drive away, Uncle Robert’s in Kalapana offers live music, local food, smoothies, community gatherings, and access to a short lava-field walk to the ocean.
Red Road Community Events
Nearby, Kalani and other local gathering spaces offer yoga, wellness classes, ecstatic dance, music, massage, and community events throughout the week.

Getting Here
Mana House is located along the scenic Red Road on Hawai‘i Island’s southeast coast. We’re about 25 minutes from Pāhoa town, 55 minutes from Hilo International Airport, and a little over two hours from Kona International Airport. Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is roughly an hour and ten minutes away — perfect for a day trip.

Guest access
Guests have full private access to the entire upstairs home, including the kitchen, living area, wraparound lanai, and all bedrooms and bathrooms. The space has its own private entrance and onsite parking in the driveway.
You’ll also have access to the rest of the property — the yard, gardens, jungle paths, and laundry area — which are shared with your hosts. We live downstairs in a separate home with our own entrance. We’re nearby if you’d like a quick tour, local tips, or to talk story, but we’re just as happy to give you complete privacy to relax and enjoy the space your way.
Check-in is easy and flexible. We’re happy to greet you when you arrive, or you can use self check-in for your convenience.

Other things to note
You’re surrounded by lush jungle and ocean air, which means you may share the space with local geckos or the occasional visiting bug. The wraparound lanai and all living areas are fully screened to keep the breezes flowing while keeping the jungle at a comfortable distance. At night, you’ll hear the coqui frogs singing. It’s all part of the Big Island experience: wild, alive, and connected to the land.
This part of the island is lush and green for a reason — you can expect passing showers, sunshine, and rainbows, often all in the same day.
With no nearby neighbors, the setting is relaxed and well-suited for groups who want to laugh, play music, share meals, and enjoy time together respectfully. We love hosting bands, groups of friends, overflow guests from local retreats and festivals, family reunions, business retreats, and families with young children.
