LATEST NEWS: VOLCANO ERUPTION
THE VOLCANO: The volcano eruption has little effect on our part of the island. The eruption is on the other end of the Island from our location. The trade winds blow most of the smoke to the southern end of the Island and has no impact on us at all. If the trade winds abate, we might temporarily get a little vog (fog plus smog). Otherwise, know that you are safe with us.

The View House is the epitome of graciousness, peace, quiet, and privacy. It is a tropical oasis on three acres of manicured grounds, fragrant flowers, and tropical fruit trees. The predominant colors are the crystal-clear blue sky, countless shades of tropical green foliage, and the deep blue-green ocean. The oxygen-rich air reaches the estate untainted over 2500 miles of the Pacific. The sunlight actually sparkles in the air at times. All these elements taken together create a Garden of Eden that you will never want to leave.
From the large, sweeping lanai (deck), Maui can be seen in the distance across the Pacific. The View House is a lovingly renovated and updated sugar company's employee's house, retaining the feel of a bygone era. Superbly crafted and furnished with tropical bamboo and teak furniture, it offers an elegant and light-filled space.
All water running into the house comes from deep Island aquifers and is double-filtered and pure. Floors are hardwood and tile. The house features a lovely bathroom with a soaking tub, a large, fully-equipped kitchen with Mexican counter tops, a master bedroom with a queen bed and ocean view, a small bedroom with twin beds and garden view, and a fold-out queen bed in the living room. Both of these rooms are available on the second floor.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BASIC RENTAL HAS TWO BEDROOMS, AS DESCRIBED. TWO ADDITIONAL ROOMS are available for extra charges per night:
-- The Mermaid Room, a lovely, small room on the first floor of the View House has an orchard and ocean view. It has one twin bed. The bathroom facilities and spa are just outside the door to the room. $35 extra per night.
-- The Buddha Room, at the entrance to the property separate but adjacent to the View House, has a full-size (double) bed and 1/2 bath (toilet and sink). The shower facilities are 30 steps away on the spa deck. $50 extra per night.
** These rooms must be booked separately by contacting the owner directly.
With all spaces occupied, including the queen bed fold out in the living room, the possible total occupancy of the facility can be as many as eight people. (two in the master bedroom queen, two in the twin beds in the small bedroom, two on the queen fold out in the living room, one in the Mermaid Room and one in the Buddha room.)
For even deeper relaxation, guests at the View House have exclusive use of our spa. Our infrared sauna, hot tub, and cold tub sit on totally private decks, surrounded by lime and moringa trees. Guests will find an additional shower room and water closet in the adjoining tiled breezeway.
This property is our only rental. We are a small, private operation and offer a serene, safe, exceptionally clean environment in “old Hawaii,” off the beaten track. There is one other house on the 3-acre property where the property managers reside. They will be available should you need anything during your stay. The caretaker lives in a small trailer at the far corner of the property.
We are 4 miles from spectacular Waipio Valley and 4 miles from a historic small “sugar town” with all amenities. We are an hour from Kona and an hour from Hilo, making both sides of the Island accessible. The most common feedback we get is that the home and property are more beautiful than the photos.
If you are coming to the Big Island in search of beauty, peace, serenity, relaxation, and rejuvenation, you have found what you are looking for! Our part of the island still expresses traditional Hawaiian “Aloha,” and the View House is the culmination of your quest.
Please Note: The listed price is for two guests per night. There is an additional charge of $15/night per guest over two. For example, 3 total guests would incur a charge of $15 extra per night, 4 total guests would incur a charge of $30 extra per night, and so on…

Privacy, view, everything!
Perfect for us. We loved walking the grounds, picking fresh fruit for breakfast on the deck facing the ocean, and the private hot tub. Comfy beds and solid kitchen plus lots of beach stuff to borrow. Nicely quiet at night (if you don't mind nature noises). Really nice touch to have a full welcome fruit bowl to enjoy during out stay.
Beautiful space. Nice and clean. Beautiful views. We used the mermaid room for our fifth person rather than having people sleep in the living room. Friendly caretakers.
Cool place, great backyard, smaller interior than I expected but accurately represented in the ad. I misunderstood that there is only 2 bedrooms included. Owner was very nice as was the caretaker
The property was great! Very relaxing yet still had all the essentials. It was super fun walking the property and enjoying all the fresh fruit! Star gazing in the hot tub was also enjoyable. Overall we enjoyed our stay so much & had so much fun exploring the big island. Only downside is the closest beach is about a 20 minute drive and there is no AC so it can get warm during the day, but wasn’t a problem at night.
Everything was present as advertised, and the spa facilities were a nice addition to the house, considering there is no nearby beach access, although maybe not quite as high-end as one may expect based on other spa experiences. The views were amazing, and the house was charmingly decorated and furnished. We had a great stay here!
The house, view, garden, and hosts were amazing. Great view of everything from the ocean to the night sky. House was clean and hosts were very informative about location, directions and gave us a great place to explore the rest of the big island.
Wonderful home in a great location. We loved the views, the peaceful atmosphere and the fresh fruit from the orchard.
Lovely restored home with lots of windows to enjoy the lush landscaping and ocean views. The landlord provides everything you need. Nearby Honokaa old town is lovely. My favorite part of the house was the peaceful location, the ocean breezes, the cleanliness of the home, and the stars at night. It was easy to get to Volcano national Park, state park hiking, beaches on the southwest side, and my favorite coffee shop in Waimea.Would love to visit each year!
This is our second stay at the property. It’s got a lovely back porch and view! We love walking the grounds and plucking fruit off the trees to sample!
We had a relaxing stay at the View House. It's located close to Honoka'a to get goods, if needed, and also convenient to explore Waipi'o Valley. The house and grounds are as advertised. We took advantage of all of the fresh fruit available. Lots of orange juice and lemonade during our stay! The breeeze coming off the ocean is lovely.
Excellent property and host! Doesn’t get much better for easy living in HI. THANK YOU again!
My husband and I were looking for the perfect place to stay, and Wow! did we find it! The property is spectacular with a treasure trove of fruit and nut trees to discover. The hosts are thoughtful and provided a wonderful experience. The hot tub, sauna and cold plunge were a great way to restore. Each day we spent on the lanai for our meals enjoying the sweeping views. We can’t wait to return!
Relaxing location on a lsrge property inunspoiled countryside. Sauna and hot tub were excellent amenities
This was our second stay at this beautiful property. We stayed for 3 weeks and enjoyed every minute! We had everything we needed at this lovely home. We loved the hot tub especially in the evening when we could star gaze! The sky was beautiful! We were a short drive to Honokaa and played several rounds of golf at the unique golf course (Hamakua country club). Overall, we had the most wonderful time and are planning on returning next year! Mahalo!
A beautiful property that is exactly as advertised. We stayed for 30 days and enjoyed it very much.
We arrive around 9:30pm, everywhere pitch black, but the house felt warm and welcoming, right away. After the sunrise we definitely appreciated the views of the house, the grounds and generosity of the owners, regarding the fruits of their orchard, all were great. The outdoor hot tub, and the private sauna were also, delightful and very soothing. The local scene in Honoka'a is limited in terms of things to do, but all around nature is the star. I played/walked the 9hole course in town, and the hilly course took the wind out of me a couple of times. Overall, a great experience, and when we come back we will stay with Marcel and Connie, and Shigecko and Marcus! (apologies if I misspelled Shigecko's name)
Marcel & Connie were amazing hosts. The Peace Garden was a great way to spend our last week on the Big Island. The view from the front of the house AND the master bedroom are crazy beautiful and having full use of the spa (sauna/hot tub/cold plunge tub) made the whole trip. It was great knowing, no matter how far we drove or hiked during the day, we had that to come home to. The view house was perfectly sized for two people and well stocked. We were also given free rein to wander the property and pick any fruit we cared to. All in all a great experience!
We enjoyed the solitude and beauty of this place. Plus, bonus roommates with all of the geckos that find their way inside and watch you from above! A wonderful place to stay.
What a wonderful surprise to find everything exactly as described. We loved our visit! So sweet and serene!🙏🌺💯
This was our second stay at this property, and we enjoyed it just as much as our first stay. The kids loved playing in the orchard and sampling the fruit. The adults enjoyed the hot tub and the views. The house was well-equipped, including beach umbrella, chairs, boogie boards, cooler, and beach towels. It was a little cramped with 6 people this time, but very manageable as the kids didn't mind sleeping on the living room futon at all. I continue to recommend this property. It's a lovely slice of rural Hawaii, complete with lots of gecko friends, an orchard, and beautiful ocean views.
Nice vacation house. Beautiful grounds and view from the lanai.
We enjoyed our stay here with the gorgeous view. The property had mature lime and avocado trees and grounds were well maintained. Felt private and worked well for a romantic getaway. The sofa needs updated. Thanks to Marcus for the extra effort so that we had power during hurricane Hone.
This was a very comfortable stay! We were a family of 4 with family in Waimea, which is close enough to get to easily, and little farther for beaches. The place was clean and the beds comfortable. The wifi and cable worked wonderfully! We loved waking up to the ocean view, and the spa features were delightful. Thank you! Only recommendation would be a laundry basket, as the laundry is outside the house near the spa.
The View House has stunning views over the ocean and a private garden full of fruit and nut trees that guests can pick. The house is beautiful and welcoming, with a great deck, sauna and hot tub. The hosts are wonderful and very knowledgeable about local places to visit. Its location is strategically placed between Kona and Hilo, the biggest towns. We could visit all the key sites like the Volcano National park, Botanical Gardens, waterfalls, fabulous beaches, black sand beach, etc. in one day. Our vacation was perfect- the trip of a lifetime!
The property was great. Everything was as described. We loved having the orchard and the hot tub was amazing! We would definitely stay here again.
The house is the perfect size for 4. The view is incredible and the grounds are magical. The caretakers are super sweet and thoughtful. We stay in a lot of rentals and this one is one of our best ever! The photos don't do it justice.
Nestled in a quiet area of the island and away from the touristy side we found this perfect Hawaiian retreat. From the moment we checked into the home and through out our stay we felt welcomed and taken care of by our hosts. This serene home had everything we needed to provided a comfortable stay. After a day spent exploring it was a great place to come home to and relax. It was very relaxing strolling the property grounds. We especially enjoyed the sauna and hot tub. Despite being away from all the touristy places it proved to be a great location to access all the amazing things to be found on the Big Island. Would highly recommend staying at this wonderful home.
The cottage is nice, beautiful views, beautiful grounds to walk around in with fresh fruit to be enjoyed off the trees. The owners live next door and are absolutely lovely people with vast knowledge of the area and all the rare and unusual plants on the grounds. It is a very private area and lends to a very calm and relaxing stay.
The property was great. Clean. Functional. Comfy. Based on the pictures we were looking for a place a little more away from neighbors and this isn’t that. Neighbors are right close because the property is long and narrow BUT the way the yard is bordered by trees/other plant life you do get privacy. I feel like a picture of the parking area would make the house easier to find so you would know what you are looking for street side.
We loved our stay. Lovely hosts - both the owners and the caretaker. Tranquil setting. Well equipped house. Clean hot tub. Nice laundry room. Great location. It was so nice to stay in a vintage plantation style home.
What a slice of heaven. We loved walking around the property, listening to the nightlife sounds, having breakfast on the deck with the geckos and the view. The hot tub was an amazing treat after a day of exploring. The hosts and their caretaker were so welcoming and provided a lovely selection of fruits and fresh flowers. We loved this place.
We enjoyed having our breakfast outside on the deck and relaxing in the hot tub at night. We made friends with an orange cat that came to visit each day and is very friendly! Bring a Bluetooth speaker if you enjoy music...
Exactly as listed, and more! The house gave us exactly what we needed: quiet location, beautiful grounds, expansive ocean views, a functional and equipped kitchen (including coffee bean grinder for our 100% Kona estate coffee), clean accommodations. It gave us more than what we needed: that infrared sauna (a quiet retreat on a Saturday morning), a hot tub we didn’t get to use and kick ourselves for not making the time, a sweet cat hanging around the property that we fell in love with, and an one of the kindest caretakers we’ve ever met. The summer is the best time for on-property fruit, but outside of summer there are two fantastic fruit stands within a couple of miles.
Comfortable stay, clean home with all that is needed. Hot tub was nice and clean. Sauna available, but we did not use. Overall would recommend to stay. Very nice and quiet. Peaceful retreat!
This was the perfect stay on the Big Island! You can’t beat that view!!! We were worried about the location, but even though it meant a bit of a drive everywhere, it was such a peaceful place to come back to after a busy day. The house had everything we needed; beach umbrella, beach chair, boogie boards, a cooler bag, ice packs and more. The house was comfortable and had enough room for the 4 of us to spread out. The hot tub was very relaxing. Host was quick to respond to my message.
We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful home! This home was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our time here! The view of the ocean was beautiful especially from the deck! We thoroughly enjoyed the orchard with oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes! The hot tub was great and very private and clean! We loved it here so much that we’ve booked another stay next year!!! Mahalo!
We all enjoyed our stay, and the view of the ocean and the orchard out back, was stunning.
The profile photo is so appropriate. Seeing the stars and the Milky Way (our) Galaxy from the hot tub is beyond words! Ask Marcel or Connie to give you a tour of their property. The various fruit and spice trees and bushes are so interesting and delicious. Please note that the 2nd washroom is downstairs en route to sauna and hot tub.
This place is a dream. So quiet and peaceful. The drive to Hapuna beaches is only 45 minutes. Waimea is close enough. At first we weren't sure about being so remote, but now we are sure. The filtered water made life easier, the lime tree and other citrus trees, made life easier too! Beds were fine. Couch was huge, fit two adults and two children - for hanging not, not sleeping! Deck is great. Kitchen was adequate. Backyard is full of surprises.
Wonderful property, just like the pictures. I truly loved everything about this place.
Really enjoyed the views off the back deck and the hot tub was great at night when we arrived home from a long day of adventure!
My husband and I were looking for a place to crash while visiting the Big Island and honestly didn't know what to expect when we booked this place. It was such a fun little stop in our trip! The property was gorgeous - so many fruit trees, wildlife, and views! The house was just right for the two of us and was a comfy place to spend a few days. We really appreciated the small touches during our stay, including the fresh fruit bowl upon arrival (picked from the trees on the property), the fully stocked kitchen, beach towels, and a cooler/ice packs for us to use! We would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you're hoping to get away from the busyness of Kona/Hilo and explore some different landscape. Two thumbs up!
