The Alani sits on the ocean side of Ali'i Drive, the seaside road that runs from Kailua Village down to Keauhou. This stretch is quiet and residential, with low-rise oceanfront condos, the sound of surf on the lava rock, and sunsets straight off the pool deck. Green Flash Coffee is a 2 minute walk for Kona coffee and breakfast, and the oceanfront path takes you north toward town past small beaches and snorkel spots. Kailua Village, with its waterfront restaurants, bars, farmers market and the Kailua Pier, is a 5 minute drive or a pleasant half hour walk along the water. Magic Sands and Kahalu'u Beach, the best easy snorkelling on the island, are 5 minutes south by car. Supermarkets, Target and Costco are 8 to 10 minutes away in town

A car is the easiest way to see the Big Island, and you have a free designated parking spot at the apartment. Kailua-Kona airport is 20 to 25 minutes north. Ali'i Drive is walkable and flat, so coffee, the beach path and the oceanfront restaurants a few minutes away can be done on foot, and the Hele-On bus and Kona Trolley run along Ali'i Drive for trips into town without the car. Ride-share and taxis work well in Kona. Bike rentals are available in Kailua Village for the flat coastal ride between Kona and Keauhou.
