The cottage is clean, lovely, and well stocked. The property is beautiful and peaceful with a gorgeous view. I enjoyed getting to know host Mary and the surrounding areas and will be back. Mahalo nui loa!
Mary was a wonderful host. The cottage was peaceful and exactly what we needed. She met us personally, showed us around her property, and even took time to share her homesteading experience when we expressed interest. She had so many resources available for guests like books, beach equipment, and local recommendations. The location feels beautifully remote, driving through fields past cows and horses to get there; but it’s still not far from anything you’d need. We hope to make it back someday.
Great place. Mary is a wonderful host. If we come back in this area we will likely rent it again.
Just what we were looking for: a beautiful peaceful place that we will gladly visit again.
Mary and her wonderful property really made our trip. The cottage was beautiful and stocked with everything we could need. The gardens, the views, taking our morning coffee in the tea house, it was all outstanding. Mary made checking in and out a breeze. Highly recommend staying with her on your next trip to Hawaii.
We had the best time at Ms. Mary’s cottage. The location is spectacular and the views are even better! Being “off grid” was a new thing for me but it was a pleasant experience! The feeling of calm and peace was amazing! Mary is the sweetest! She gave us a tour of the property and told us about each tree and plant! If I ever get a chance to return to the Big Island I would certainly stay here again! Thank you Mary for being an amazing host and sharing the beauty of your property with Cindy and I!
We were on island for hectic business so to come back to this off grid cottage with Mary and Copper and the sheep was perfect. Enough kitchen to prep our own meals. Puzzles to build, comfy bed. What more do you need?! Definitely will go back
We loved our stay at Mary’s property. It was just what we were looking for in Hawaii. Beautiful small property. We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay.
Everything you need to get away to a lovely setting overlooking the ocean.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the beauty scenic property. Mary has created such a wonderful surrounding, full of calm and peacefully set against a picturesque backdrop. We were surrounded by nature, wildlife, and so many things to see and explore each day. Mary, herself, is amazing. We really enjoyed our time with her, visiting and learning about the community she's built and her fascinating life. And, she has the sweetest dog. We're so happy to have connected with her and glad to have made such a wonderful friend :) Our daughter loved the stay so much she didn't want to leave. We've moved around during our stay here on the Big Island staying at 3 different places, and she still says Mary's cottage stay is by far the best! If you visit Big Island, we'd highly recommend staying at Mary's beautiful retreat – It's a definitely must!
Lovely cottage, lovely grounds. Behind main house. Walk around house to expansive views of ocean. Off grid hence no AC. 20 minutes drive to Hilo, past the 4-mile scenic drive & botanical garden.
We had a fabulous time here with ample space for the 2 of us. We did share the space with geckos of various sizes that visited periodically. The outdoor shower was wonderful even when it rained. Mary the owner is lovely and so welcoming.
Had great stay. Loved the property and being able to see water from tea house and yard. Loved the “outdoor “ shower and the amenities. Mary and Copper are great and would definitely recommend!
I took a 10-day solo trip to the big island for my 30th birthday. I wanted something that honored the natural beauty of Hawai’i. Mary’s Garden House hideaway was exactly that. The views from her lovely home were incredible and the location allowed me to see more of the east side of the island during this trip. I already can’t wait to return to see Hawai’i, Mary, and her sweet dog, Copper. A hui hou.
We were delighted with Honoka'a and enjoyed an evening at a ranch west of Waimea, day trips to Kona, Hilo, a tropical garden, Hilo Farmer's market, and Captain Cook monument (for two of us hikers). The accommodations were great for 6 adults. Also enjoyed the oranges off the tree in the backyard.
Beautiful cottage on a beautiful property with views down to the ocean. The grounds are exquisitely maintained with choice flowering trees, bushes and flowers. Inside the cottage was large and comfotable. We loved the indoor/outdoor bathroom! We had a wonderful visit.
Mary’s cottage was the perfect place to call home for a birthday weekend where we wanted to unplug and refresh. Such a quaint space and a great location to explore the eastern side of the island. She had great recommendations and made us feel right at home.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Garden Cottage. A nice quiet place to relax after a day out and about. Cottage was about 20-25mins drive to Hilo. The instructions for getting to the cottage were very easy to follow and we had no problem getting there. Overall a very nice relaxing place to stay. Thanks Mary and Copper.
We enjoyed staying at this property. Very nice set up, peaceful and quiet. Was a bit worried about no wifi, but mobile data worked great since there is a signal booster.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay very much! Mary, our hostess was delightful, welcoming and helpful! The cottage was so tastefully done and it felt like we were in a park with beautiful foliage and flowers that Mary created! From the Tea Room, we saw beautiful sunrises over the ocean!! We would definitely love to stay there again🌺
