Property Overview
And not only secluded, but only a four and a half minute walk to a gorgeous and private beach! (I know VRBO wrote “six minute walk” in the title, but I measured it once!). Gilligan's Beach Cottage is not like one of the houses packed into town--it is about 15 minutes east of Princeville in rural Kauai in an unspoiled, natural valley called Moloa'a. If you check it out on a map, you will find Moloa'a Bay in the upper right hand corner. Since there is very limited public parking near the beach, this beach is relatively undiscovered by tourists. Hollywood, however, did discover this idylic location in the 1960's and filmed the entire pilot episode of 'Gilligan's Island' here--thus, the name we chose.
Gilligan's Cottage is situated on a large rural lot which is filled with fruit and palm trees, to the delight of our guests. This valley is sparsely populated, and privacy and tranquility is what you will find here. Gilligan's has one bedroom, one full bath with a private outdoor Hawaiian Shower (which is very popular with our guests!). The cottage is fully modern in every way, yet still retains the charm of Old Hawaii in its plantation setting. And not only that, for the warmer, more humid summer days, Gilligan’s has a high-quality Lennox split-system air conditioning unit!
Moloa'a Beach--oh, the beach! Just a four and a half minute walk down a lovely paved country road. Very beautiful, very clean and very LONELY! Many times, you will be the ONLY one to be walking this beach watching turtles, picking up shells, and observing an occasional Monk seal. This is the type of setting in which you totally forget that there is a civilization!
But the nicest part--civilization is just a few minutes drive away from Gilligan's! You will notice that Moloa'a is centrally-located on Kauai, and after a day at restaurants, shopping, hiking, and touring paradise, you still have Gilligan's to come home to--only a dream away...

Being close to the beach means that we are located in a tsunami zone. In the unlikely case of a tsunami, simply drive up Moloaa Road to Koolau Road, where you will be out of the tsunami zone.

We liked this place because of it's rural setting. So, there are no nearby shops or other amenities, but that was it's gift. We fed the feral cats, ate fresh fruit from the trees and put up with a zillion chickens, but that is what Kauai is like if you are not in a sterile condo. We used the Gas Grill on the deck, took pictures of the wonderful garden, the birds and the geckos. We visited the Kilauea Lighthouse, the Kilauea Farmers Market, and the bakery in Kilauea that has gluten free baked goods!! We would stay here again. It does not have a water view, but it is super quiet.
Great location! A/C bedroom and front room. Private secluded. Outdoor private shower!
This was the absolute most amazing place we have ever stayed. The cottage was the perfect size fir the two of us. Everything is well thought out witt tons of amenities. Tony himself even gave us toothbrushes as my boyfriend had forgotten to pack them. There is lots of privacy and its very quiet and peaceful. The gardens are so beautiful. And the beach is such a short walk away, and wfile there ww only saw two other people both times we went. I will never stay anywhere else again while visiting Kauai. I miss it and can't wait to go back!
We have stayed in many VRBO properties over the years both here and abroad. This was the best equipped we have ever stayed at. It gets our highest recommendation
We had wonderful time just a short walk from beautiful Moloa'a Beach. Conveniently located to the north and south shores of Kauai. We loved the tropical and peaceful environment. Tony, the host, is a pleasure to interact with. We would definitely consider a return to this adorable cottage.
Awesome
Very clean and spacious cottage. We really enjoyed the lanai and the proximity to the bay where we saw a whale in some dolphins fun time we would go back
Great location with neighborhood feel; short stroll to beautiful quiet beach; very private, well-stocked and comfortable bungalow surrounded by an abundance of tropical fruit trees and plants. Paradise!
We loved this cottage and the location. It was perfect for us!
Cute and comfy cottage! Well stocked with all the ammenities! Beautiful deck and back yard
We have stayed at many VRBOs, but none as nice as this! We loved…the location, the cleanliness, the floor plan, the outdoor shower, the plentiful supplies (Ziplocks, shampoo, TP, laundry supplies, beach chairs, etc), the beautiful, well groomed grounds, the sweet cats, the unbelievable privacy, the composite decks, and the fresh fruit! The host was the best we’ve ever come across. Tony was pleasant to work with, quick to respond to any questions, and SO very congenial! The pride he takes in his property is evident everywhere! Book it!
Gilligans is a gem in a jungle like environment. The house is clean and neat with many special features such as the flora in the yard which includes many flowering plants, a lime tree, and a huge avocado tree. We especially enjoyed the cats that come visiting and the ever present flock of chickens which made us feel right at home, Tony and his staff keep this place well stocked to meet all your needs.
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Gilligans. The cottage was so cozy, secluded and private and surrounded by lush tropical tress and plants and flowers close to the beach. The cottage was very clean, had all the amenities we needed including snorkeling gear, towels and boogie boards. Tony was an amazing and accommodating host and we loved feeding the little kitties every evening. !!
We enjoyed being a short walk from this lovely, uncrowded beach. The rental was charming, with everything we needed. Very quiet and private. And i loved having the “resident” outdoor cats to feed and pet.😻
This beautiful, secluded spot is surrounded by flora and Fana. The avocado tree outback is just ready for you to pick a big ripe avocado along with all the other fruit trees. Tony was a wonderful and very attentive host.
Giligan's Cottage was the perfect secluded hideaway we were looking for -- off the beaten track, very close to an uncrowded beach, close enough to Kilauea and Hanalei, as well as the East Shore towns, to take care of shopping and occasional dining out -- and the cottage had all we needed to be self-sufficient most of the time anyway. Fresh avocados and tangerines right off the trees in the yard were a real plus.
