This is a comfy home and a wonderful neighborhood. A relaxed Christmas with new friends.
Everything was wonderful as always
The vintage beach cottage was immaculately clean and had all updated kitchen appliances. The covered lanai and outdoor utility sink were great spots for us to wash and dry our wetsuits. We loved the outdoor shower. Lots of hot water! The cottage is spacious, and has one bedroom with a comfortable bed and another queen sized bed off of the living area. Lots of livable interior space. The front lanai is lovely and private for sitting outside.
We had a great stay! The host was there to welcome us when we arrived to show us everything we needed to know about the cottage.
Loved the place. Great check in. Very comfortable and great location. Highly recommend
ㅣAbsolutely loved the property. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked. David gave us great info at check in. Paulo Beach is magical!!
Cozy, well appointed home. Very nice kitchen. Everything in good repair and great AC! This was our third time staying here, wonderful every trip.
Comfortable, great air conditioning. Quiet.
We stayed 12 nights and absolutely loved it! Puako is a hidden gem on the Big Island. The house was so comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed waking up to the sound of the birds each morning, seeing all the geckos, and looking out for other wildlife (mongooses, wild pigs, etc). We were just a short walk from the ocean and tons of world class snorkeling. We also spent a lot of time at nearby Waialea Beach (also amazing). Literally no complaints, except we wished we could have stayed longer! Thank you David and Kim.
This is the nicest vacation rental. We’ve stayed in in PuakoThe property is really well put together and beautiful, and the host are wonderful
The property is beautiful and fully stocked. The place is even cleaner and nicer in person than we expected from the posting. The AC is solid, which is nice considering how humid HI can be.Dave was also great, he gave us a tour on check in. He pointed out the lovely fruit-bearing and flowering plants in the yard.We were also close to a public beach access where we could watch the sunset and see fish, crabs, and honu (sea turtles) (see beach photos).Would absolutely come back!
David was a lovely host and provided a generous welcome with tips on the local flora. The house is simple in the best way - utterly relaxing and with all you need. The location is spectacular for snorkeling because you can walk to the best spots and shower in the outdoor shower after. The cottage is charming with thoughtful updates (AC) and is impeccably maintained.
Can’t beat the location - quiet, private and close to great beaches. Owners were friendly and welcoming. Cottage was well-stocked and exceptionally clean. We loved our stay!
This cottage and it’s location is perfect in every way. We love the quiet, peaceful location and the beauty surrounding it, the ability to walk to wonderful snorkeling locations, and the peaceful community of Puako. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable annd Dave annd Kim have provided every convenience needed. We have made many visits and it is always spotlessly clean. Dave and Kim are wonderful hosts and we hope to be back again!
Booked a stay for medical conference- I enjoyed staying here more than resort. Perfect for 2 couples or family. Spacious with large rooms. Very private. Quiet relocation walking access to shore/tide pools/sunsets/coastal hiking. Quick drive to beautiful beaches. Hosts are excellent
Spent 10 days here and it was wonderful. Had everything we needed to relax at the house and enjoy a true Hawaiian neighborhood. Very close to the beach public access, so less than 5 min walk. Neighbors are very welcoming. Thanks David for all the great recommendations and mangos. Mike T
Excellent.
Great location, amazing hosts. Several beach access spots within a 5 min walk. House is great, plus you have a lanai in back and front deck is surrounded by a beautiful garden. Enjoy
Everything about the house and hosts were just the best of the many places we've stayed. We didn't want to leave. They do a great job, and the kitchen is great for cooking, the location beautiful, and on and on. It is a special placeWe are seniors, and it was a comfortable place for us, and the ocean and wildlife were magical there. .
David and Kim are wonderful hosts. Their home is so well designed and delightful. Full of beautiful original art, it is breezy and bright. It feels very private even though the hosts live just behind the house. This place really shows the love and attention of its owners.Puako is a delight if you're looking for something quiet and out of the way. Just across the street from a turtle resting place and lovely tidepools. We have stayed here before and hope to return again.
My teens and I had the best time at Kim and David's. David met us on our first night and regaled us with stories and information about the property. We explored the area on the bikes that came with the cottage which is one of my favourite ways to discover a new place. We used the boogie boards and beach gear, that were also complimentary, to go to Hapuna which was a highlight of our trip and so much fun. Not only was there so much to see and do in around Puako, the cottage was so cute and creatively decorated it felt good to come back to. I would love to stay here again as it had everything I’d need, it was so clean and did not smell of must or mold which is a big deal for people like me with asthma.
Aloha, Excellent location; the house is stocked with helpful items for vacationers--beach towels, beach chairs, coolers...the lanai and deck are delightful and the outdoor shower is exceptional. David and Kim are delightful people. I hope to visit again soon. Mahalo Kim and David.
We have stayed at a few different places in Puako and we found our favorite for sure. We loved the layout of the cottage and it was very clean and secluded. It was stocked with everything that we needed and enjoyed our stay. David was an excellent host and was there to help whenever we needed it. We plan on returning next year to stay here again.
Absolutely loved our stay at the cottage. The host and hostess were especially gracious and allowed us to visit with their pet pigs. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This was our second time staying here. It really felt like home away from home. David even got bikes out for us so we could ride in the quiet neighborhood! There are beach accesses with beautiful coast lines right across the street. We are 5 minutes drive from Hapuna beach. David and Kim have everything you need for staying at the beach. We’ll definitely stay there again! Thanks for your hospitality, David and Kim!
We had a wonderful stay. Home was clean and in a great location. Many beach entry points up and down the street. So far this has been our favorite place to stay. Best part is walking down to one of the many beach entry points to watch the sun set. Lots of places to snorkel too. Loved our time on the Big Island. Lots to do just a drive away. David and Kim were wonderful. You’ll have to ask about Little Little and Radiant!
This cottage ranks as one of the best VRBO places we have stayed! It fulfilled all of our expectations, from the extremely quiet, private, clean, light-filled and spacious home to the beautiful garden surroundings. The air conditioning works perfectly, but there are also fans in every room if you prefer a more tropical feeling. The beds were very comfortable, and you have a choice of an indoor or private outdoor shower (we preferred the outdoor!). The house was truly one of the best stocked places we've stayed in every way - toiletries, plenty of towels, plenty of dishes, pots and pans, and even spices, etc in the kitchen. In fact, I would recommend checking what's in the cupboards first before going grocery shopping. Also available are beach chairs, boogie boards, a couple of swim noodles, and beach towels. Two of the best beaches on the island are just a 5 min drive away - one for snorkeling and with shade trees (Waialea) and the other for swimming and sun bathing (Hapuna). You couldn't ask for a friendlier and nicer host than David - we really mean that! We will very definitely be back!
We live in Maui and visited the Big Island for a week of scuba diving and birdwatching. I wanted to stay a little off the beaten path and this cottage in Pauko was perfect. It was quiet and quaint, full of Hawaiiana and located directly across the street from the beach. We are so grateful that we discovered this little gem!
Fantastic location. attentive and respectful owner. Cozy home with full amenities. Great outdoor shower. Morning coffee on the lanai listening to bird life was amazing.
Thanks you to Kim and David. Fifth time we have stayed in the cottage. Absolutely love the location, hosts, and facilities. We’ll be back.
David is the perfect host, made you feel like the space was yours as much as it is his. Very well equipped, lanai was spacious and beyond comfortable. The outside shower is a must! Would stay here again without hesitation. Little little was a pleasure to meet!
We had an amazing stay here! It was exactly as advertised and even better. The cottage is charming and full of character, offering the perfect blend of charm and comfort. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and responsive, making our stay even more enjoyable. The location is ideal—peaceful, beautiful, and just steps away from the beach. We can't wait to come back the next time we're on the Big Island!
Great!
This cottage is in a great location, a short drive to the resorts area. Great beach access just across the street and not a far drive from many other beach access points. Great A/C units when needed. I loved the outside shower, my daughter also liked it but my son could not wrap his head around being outside and naked (no one can see you). Wonderful to have so many places to relax on the property, nice line to hang your towels on etc. The washer and dryer were handy to have. The yard has A curry leaf tree to use as well as some herbs, added bonus we were given fresh mango and chayote to eat. Overall, we would love to come back.
Puako is a piece of Hawaii heaven. From the ocean sunsets, to the turtles, the quiet and gentleness of the night breeze. David’s house is a rare gem and a bright, airy, and well stocked space to have as your home base. We’ve stayed multiple times and hope to keep coming back! Great beds, showers, kitchen gear, beach gear, and AC when you need it!
Loved the house, gardens, location and the hosts. Definitely up a step on the ol’ evolutionary scale.
This is our favorite place to stay when we’re on the Big Island! We will be back again ! Mahalo!
We had a fabulous time here in this beautifully restored surf cottage. Great location, David and Kim were great! Kitchen stocked with everything you may need, plenty of towels. Loved the outdoor shower! Plenty of space to hang out front and back. Great sunset just across the street. We will definitely return!
Amazing location walking distance to several public beach accesses. 10 mn from beautiful Hapuna Beach. Cottage has 3 great areas. Front deck, inside the cottage and great back patio.
Very clean, very comfortable and a great host!
The house is a great size with 2 lanais. It was very clean, and the hosts were available when needed. It was a fantastic experience.
Loved the graceful cottage and gardens. Being one block from the ocean was a fabulous location. David is a wealth of information about the history of the area and the natural world of Hawaii. The cottage has everything we needed in the kitchen and the bed was quite comfortable. We’d go back in a second.
A perfect, quiet getaway that put us right into relaxation. Very clean and stocked with everything you need. Dave repaired flats on the bike tires for us so we could bike through the neighborhood and stop by different shoreline access paths. It’s just a 5 minute drive to Hapuna beach. We’ll be staying here again!
We had a great time. Loved our stay going back next year. Thank Kim Pam and Dave. See you next year.
Worked well for a family vacation. Included hard to find queen beds in this area. Location was quiet with easy access to shoreline (not beachy, but great for walks and viewing sunsets). Owner/host has a lot of experience in the rental market and has done an excellent job of thinking thru the details to help make this an easy and comfortable property to enjoy.
WOW, exceeded our expectations. Beautiful accommodations, lush grounds, quiet location and the beach access - incredible. Honu, sunsets and snorkling. David was available if needed but not obtrusive. We'll be back.
