Rental Overview
Escape to a peaceful hillside retreat above Kailua-Kona, where ocean views, tropical gardens, and a screened outdoor living space invite you to slow down and embrace island life.
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood just 10 minutes from downtown Kona, you'll be close to beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, shopping, and ocean adventures while enjoying the peace and privacy of a hillside setting above the bustle of town.
This private guest suite and outdoor living space (known in Hawaii as an *ohana*, meaning family) is attached to our home but has its own private entrance and dedicated parking. While we're nearby if you need anything, the suite is entirely yours to enjoy during your stay.
One of the things guests love most about the suite is the screened lanai, which serves as a private outdoor living space overlooking tropical gardens and the Pacific Ocean beyond. It's where you'll likely spend most of your time—enjoying your morning coffee, reading a book in the trade winds, working remotely, or unwinding with a sunset view after a day of exploring the island.
The outdoor living space features comfortable lounge seating, a daybed for afternoon naps, and a well-equipped kitchenette with a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, two-burner hot plate, microwave/convection oven/air fryer, cookware, and basic cooking essentials. Whether you're preparing breakfast before a day of adventure or enjoying a simple meal while watching the sunset, you'll have everything you need for easy vacation dining. To help you settle in after your travels, we provide complimentary coffee, sugar, and cream for your first morning.
Inside, you'll find a comfortable queen bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in shower. A dedicated workspace with reliable high-speed Wi-Fi, a desk, and an ergonomic chair makes the suite ideal for remote work, whether you're taking a working vacation or simply checking in from paradise.
Outside, you'll enjoy views of lush tropical landscaping, flowering plants, and fruit trees. As the day winds down, the hillside location offers beautiful sunsets and views of the Pacific Ocean below. During the day you'll hear songbirds in the trees, and at night the gentle chorus of coqui frogs provides a soundtrack unique to the Hawaiian Islands.
At approximately 650 feet above sea level, our hillside location benefits from cooling trade winds and a milder climate than many areas closer to the shoreline. Like many homes in Hawaii, the suite does not have air conditioning. Instead, ceiling and floor fans, along with the natural breeze, help keep the space comfortable. Evenings are especially pleasant, often cooling into the upper 60s and low 70s.
We live in the main portion of the home and respect our guests' privacy. Most interactions are limited to a friendly hello, though we're always happy to offer local recommendations or assistance if needed. Our two friendly dogs also call the property home and occasionally spend time in the yard. They are especially fond of greeting guests in the morning and may quietly stop by your front door hoping for a few pets.
Whether you're visiting the Big Island to snorkel with tropical fish, explore volcanoes, chase waterfalls, work remotely with an ocean view, or simply slow down and enjoy island life, we hope you'll feel right at home in our little corner of Kona.
