This home is a hidden gem! The house is hidden from the road but consider this a plus. The directions are spot on. The host was always responsive. The back yard is well maintained and private but close enough that you can still hear the ocean waves. Breakfast on the lanai every morning was wonderful. The interior of the house is charming. We had all of the amenities - the hosts went out of their way to make sure no detail was overlooked. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have lawn chairs and beach towels. Overall, a wonderful experience. If we ever get back to Kauai, we would definitely book the NeNe Nest again.

My mother and I flew to Kauaʻi for the first time and this Kekaha cottage was a warm and welcoming place for us to stay. The home is charming, clean and thoughtfully put together, you can feel the pride and care in every detail. It was also a nice surprise to learn that the cottage was featured in Tiny Homes Magazine, which speaks to its unique character.There were just two drawbacks for us. The location is on the far west side, so many of the places we visited ended up being a longer drive than expected. Also, the driveway is very narrow and we were a bit nervous maneuvering in and out because we didn’t want to damage the property or the newly planted hibiscus.Even with those small challenges, we’re grateful for the privilege of staying here. It’s a beautiful, peaceful and cozy home, perfect for anyone looking to slow down and enjoy the quiet side of Kauaʻi.

We loved staying in this sweet bungalow for a few nights! The bedrooms were larger than we had imagined and the air conditioning wasn’t really needed but worked great. The kitchen was well stocked although Waimea town has a good selection of restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking. Overall, this was sweet property was a great place to end our beautiful Kauai vacation!

What a peaceful and delightful home. The three of us were pleased with the usual amenities, but being so close to a beach was the star. Just be aware that the roosters throughout Kauai will also make it a memorable stay! The hosts are so kind and considerate. Kudos to them for making them home available in such a beautiful place.

We stayed at the Nene cottage back in 2013 and loved it! That's why we decided to come back. The location is a little far from the airport but that's the reason we like it here in Kekaha, less tourist and basically no traffic. The cottage has everything you need, from coolers, beach chairs, boogie boards, board games, towels, etc. We did noticed that it's basically the same as 13 years ago so it needs some maintenance, like the front screen door was hard to close among other things. Beautiful house and garden in a good location so we could easily walk to the beach nearby. The host sent us very clear instructions and check in was quick. Beds were very comfy and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need.

Really enfoyed the quiet relaxing atmosphere of the town and of the property. Beautiful property. Nice outdoor shower, used it for every shower. Found great bakeries and eats a couple miles away. Great place to get away from the high tourist areas.

In spite of a strong Kona low pressure storm front coming in we enjoyed our time at the Nene Nest immensely. The cottage was what we expected. The listing was accurate. Communication with the hostess was timely. And my wife and I love the more quiet side of Kauai in Kekaha. All in all a very Vacation spot for us.

Loved our stay, everything was as promised. Really appreciated the fans and white noise box to cover rooster crowing in the early hours.

House in Kekaha was perfect; has everything you needed to be comfortable. Communication with host was great. You’re very close to a great beach good for surfing or swimming. The town itself is very small and quiet, but you’re close to Waimea with more dining options, if needed. Would definitely stay again.

This is a beautiful little home just steps away from the ocean. It is small but has spacious rooms, is excellently renovated and is tastefully decorated. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, private garden and front balcony. It is truly a gem, a wonderful find and is highly recommended. It was an honour to stay there.

Great access to Waimea Canyon and parks an trails. Loved the less touristy vibe and cozy bed.

Having provided beach chairs and boogie boards made beach days easy. The surfers on the beach just yards from the house provided free entertainment. I love the Nene Nest.

We absolutely loved our 2 weeks at NeNe Nest! It felt like home and was the perfect sunny spot on the island to explore and unwind!

What a beautiful little house! The two bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use. We ate on the little lanai in the front, which was delightful. Melissa was immediately responsive to our questions. The town of Waimea is very close and charming, with plenty of food options, and Salt Pond Beach is 15 minutes away and wonderful. We loved being away from all the resorts, in a quiet neighborhood right by the ocean. I would stay here again in a minute!

Easy check in/out. Great information from the owners about local food and activities. Loved this gorgeous traditional island cottage, and being away from the busy tourist areas. Can’t wait to stay again!

It was a lovely getaway ... accurately described ... in a beautiful, sunny, kinda remote part of Kaiuai... but central to the best little artistic towns, low-key restaurants, super nice people, and easy to access beaches, hikes, etc. A rare find.

Loved the NeNe Nest. It was absolutely a perfect place to relax and enjoy island of Kauai. Beautiful private yard and lanai. Secluded peaceful and beach across the street. Hear surf from lanai. Reminded of old plantation home but newly renovated.

Comfortable hand picked furniture, very quite surroundings, nicely equipped kitchen, modern electrical light and fan switches (we loved them). Many nice beaches within short driving distance.

It was lovely, I had a hard time with the heat. Wished ac was in the main room. Very quiet. I think people should check out this cute cottage.

The NeNe Nest was the most amazing little beach house just tucked back from the shore! It’s gorgeous Hawaiian foliage added to the character of this original plantation cottage and it was well stocked with kitchen and beach items to enhance your stay. Nearby so many good restaurants and activities on the south side of Kauai island, the house was in such a good location! We absolutely loved our stay and would 100% stay here again! Mahalo!

Such a wonderful place! The Nene Nest was absolutely perfect for our family of four. It was private and felt like a home away from home. Excellent accommodations that made our Kauai vacation perfect. This place exceeded our expectations and has such charm. We will definitely be staying again!

The Nene Nest was absolutely perfect! We had most of our meals at the Nest as it was perfect eating on the porch and ending the evening with a card game. We could head to the crowds of Poipu or play in the waves at a quiet beach near by. The canyon was a short drive and a must see! The little store in town has the best poke and everyone was incredibly friendly! We also stayed at a resort on the other side of the island - but preferred the privacy and comfort of this beautiful cottage. We will book again for our next visit! Thank you!!

The owners were extremely available for communication. They adapted to our needs very easily and actually retrieved the last item and mailed it back to me. The house was amazing and we loved every minute of our stay.

This home was exactly what we were looking for! Cute, clean, private, close to an awesome beach, great hosts, all the amenities we could need! There were a/c units for my daughter who enjoys to cool off, but individual units in the rooms so I could embrace and enjoy the fresh natural air!they had books, beach equipment, a Ukelele, and lesson book, and an outdoor shower for after the beach! The hosts were prompt in responding and very helpful! It is rare that I enjoy staying places longer than a few days but I could have stayed another week as it was so great!

Our family really enjoyed staying at the Nene Nest! It was extremely comfortable and charming. Our 10 year old son loved searching for lizards and toads in the yard. Listening to the ocean and birds made the experience feel magical and peaceful. We especially appreciated all the beach supplies provided and it made our beach days super easy. The communication with Melissa was fantastic! We had a small issue with an AC unit and it was resolved immediately! Don’t hesitate to book this property- do it now, you won’t regret it!

Very charming place to stay!

This was our second stay at the Nene Nest. We love everything about this house both inside and out! The inside is very clean, well stocked and comfortable. The yard is very private and quiet…love the outdoor shower and it is just a short walk to get to the beach for sunsets. What a way to end each day! Melissa gets an A for communication and we are very thankful that she and Kyle love sharing their beautiful home and town with us! Most definitely 5 stars!

Perfect for us. We loved this little place and it started to feel like home in the short period we stayed. Easy walk to the ocean and just up the road from our favorite beach. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We can really recommend the Nene Nest. We felt so comfortable that the only negative thing we can report is that we only booked 10 days (our mistake ;-)).The Nene Nest is exactly like in the pictures, but more beautiful. Melissa and Kyle have a great knack for decorating. The furniture is, unlike so often in other vacation rentals, high quality and carefully selected. The beds are fantastic. There are plenty of wardrobes and chests of drawers. The kitchen is large and very well equipped. The cottage is in a quiet area. Yes, the ubiquitous chickens start their “chatter” really early, to be honest we didn't hear it from the third night onwards.Thank you Melissa for letting us call the Nene Nest our home! Whenever we go back to Kauai, the Nene Nest is our first choice.

We (3 adults) had a fantastic stay in Kekaha! The home was perfect for our needs and very well-stocked. A 2-minute walk to the beach and a 5-minute drive to shops, restaurants, and stores in Waimea. The neighborhood is quiet (except for the roosters!) and the home is very private. The owners were very responsive (ahem, sponge delivery :-) and friendly. Check in/out was a breeze. We would definitely rent the Nene Nest again and I highly recommend you do as well.

We enjoyed this cute cottage. There were many small touches that we appreciated. We enjoyed the large spacious bedrooms with wonderful cross ventilation. The kitchen was adequate. We would have liked serving bowls and utensils. The proximity to the beach was great and we enjoyed the black sand. Wonderful sunsets. The proximity to our catamaran tour and Waimea Canyon was perfect. There is a lack of grocery stores and restaurants in Kekaha that we enjoyed on the north side of the island.

Everything was as described. It was a sweet little cottage hidden away from the street. It was well maintained and had everything we needed. Beach towels, beach chairs and boogie boards were a welcome addition. We would return.PS. Poke from the local Mini Mart (0.6 mile walk) lacked ambiance, but was delicious and fresh.

A beautiful and cozy home, nestled into what felt like a landscaped courtyard. This was a perfect location for us, since our main activity was repeatedly heading to Waimea Canyon to hike the extensive trails. Would certainly stay again!

Wonderful place to get away from it all. Close to great hikes on Kokee and Waimea. Beach is a few minutes from house. You can’t swim because of rocky bottom but it is a wonderful spot to sit in a chair to take it all in and have a drink while watching the sun go down. Comfortable beds and private yard. Roosters let you know vocally that they are in the area and visit with the hens periodically but it doesn't take long to get used to them - it is part of what makes the place what it is. At night you can hear the ocean waves and in the morning and throughout the day there are beautiful birds flying in and out of the yard. The geckos are around and fun to watch! Great place to relax and be out of the crowds. Highly recommend!

We loved staying at Nene Nest and really enjoyed the West side of Kauai. It is close to a lot of hiking in the Waimea Canyon and to a wonderful scuba diving operation Explore Kauai. The neighborhood was quiet and not touristy at all. Nene Nest was extremely clean and very comfortable.

We could not be more grateful for our stay at the Nene nest! My husband and I both agreed it was the best accommodation we have ever stayed at. This is a great house and we loved our stay. The beach was beautiful and everything was perfect.

I can’t say enough good things about the Nene Nest! The property is adorable, well-maintained and full of thoughtfully designed touches; as is the surrounding private yard with beautiful flowers, banana trees and soft grass. The house had spacious rooms, comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, beach supplies and toys for our kids! Melissa was a friendly and responsive host and you can tell she takes pride in sharing this special place with her guests- Thank you, Melissa! Kauai was a perfect vacation spot for our family with two small children, and it was a real treat to get to come back from our daily adventures to a private, comfortable bungalow that felt like home. Close to the beach, beautiful sunsets, and nice quiet cozy place with everything we needed for our family. Owner Melissa made sure we were okay when there was a large fire about 5 miles from us.

We stayed at the Nene Nest to explore the hikes of Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park. The location was great- close to the trails and Waimea Town itself in case we wanted to go out and eat or get groceries. The house was comfortable and in a very quiet location. Steps to the beach for sunsets, short driving distance to swimmable beaches. If you’re looking for a good home base to explore this area, I highly recommend the Nene Nest.

We loved our honeymoon at the Nene Nest!! This was our first time on the island and we loved it. However, Kekaha is a bit of a drive from various locations.
