Fabulous furnishings and upgrades to this already beautiful house.
Here is the base of operation for your Big Island adventure. Mika Kai is a beautiful oceanfront home in a tropical Hawaiian setting. It sits on lava bluff about 15 feet above the crashing waves. The oceanfront pool, hot tub and huge lanai give you a private resort all your own. This beautifully decorated home is not your ordinary vacation rental. Each bedroom is like your own hotel room, with en-suite private bath.
Fully fenced and gated, it has 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 2 stories, over 3000 square feet, and right on the blue Pacific. This is a super comfortable home for your family group. The layout of the house is: 4 spacious Bedrooms – all 4 ensuite, each with its own private bathroom. The bedrooms are situated as such: downstairs has a master suite with a King Bed and a Japanese soak tub; a second bedroom downstairs has 2 Twin Beds. Upstairs has 2 more bedrooms both with Queen Beds. A second living room that works as an office area is located upstairs. This area is open to downstairs, very dramatic. On the main level, under the soaring ceilings, you will find an expansive living room with lots of comfortable seating, a large fully stocked and equipped modern kitchen, a dining room with seating for 8, a 5th bathroom with shower. A washing machine and clothes dryer including laundry soap for your use.
At Mika Kai you will find guidebooks, Hawaii reef fish identification books, Big Island picture books, up-to-date pamphlets, and insider tips on secrets only known to the locals. Yet you may find that you wish to just sit on the lanai at Mika Kai and never leave. That’s okay too. For your enjoyment, we have beach towels, and various water flotation items. Pack your swimsuits and come on over!
You will love the surrounding nature and the natural beauty of the area. Volcano National Park is approximately 45 minutes away. Great snorkeling is about 20 minutes. Waterfalls, nature hikes, champagne pond, steam vent caves, black sand beaches, surfing & boogie boarding, botanical gardens and scenic drives through rainforest are all nearby. Hilo is the second largest city in the Hawaiian Islands. This is old Hawaii at its natural best. The whale watching from November through March from Mika Kai's huge lanai is some of the best you'll find in all the Islands.
Note: Mika Kai is in a residential neighborhood and to be good neighbors we do not rent the house for large parties or events. We do not allow more than a total of 8 people on the property at any one time. Quiet hours are from 9:00pm to 8:00am.
Security cameras on property for surveillance when property is vacant.
Guests will be asked to sign a rental agreement and liability form. Rate is based on guest count. Only the guests that are staying at the home are allowed at the home - no other visitors. Mahalo!

The house was very private and the best part was watching the whales from the lanai! We will definitely be back!!
Host was very helpful and responsive. Great home. We will use again.
We stayed at Mina Kai while visiting with family on Hawai'i island. The location was perfect for exploring all that east Hawai'i has to offer and the house had ample room for our extended family. The sunrises were absolutely beautiful. Mahalo
As beautiful as the pictures were of the property, it was more breathtaking upon arrival . Very relaxing and zen…There were 8 of us . A multigenerational family from 14-80. The house was spacious and comfortable. The air-conditioning in all the bedrooms, needed in July, worked well.We had an issue, when we first arrived, but the owners were immediately available to give us an updated code to the entrance gate. Other small concerns were addressed in a timely manner.
Great location
Great place, awesome to watch the sunrise
Absolutely wonderful fun and clean place to spend time with my family. We were a party of 6 and there was plenty of space to spread out and move around. Kitchen gave us a much needed break from eating out as it was well stocked and a pleasure to cook in. The view is stunning and being able to just walk out the back door and stand on the cliffs and watch the ocean sprays was the best. Each room had its own bathroom and AC unit which was great for giving us some privacy and kept our bedrooms nice and cool to sleep in. Would highly recommend for any group stay and will definitely look forward to staying there again!
View from the yard is beautiful. House was clean and host was very responsive.
The views from the home are absolutely stunning - they can't be beat!! The owners are highly responsive and flexible. Thank you so much!
The property itself is nice, and well equipped. I will note that it does NOT have central A/C, which I will admit I missed in the listing. It has portable A/Cs in the bedrooms (one did not work) that are helpful. The views are stunning, the lava rock is amazing to look at and walk on, but it's an extremely remote feeling property. It takes a good 20 minutes just to get to Hilo from the property, so if you're looking for a quiet, secluded stay, this is a good choice. If you're looking to explore, its a bit too remote in my opinion. Property has thoughtful touches like bottled water, a well stocked laundry room, snorkel gear, etc. All in all I'd stay again if it weren't so off the beaten path. Thanks!
Loved the home! Small glitches with codes for access, but property management was easy to get in touch with and easily solved.
My vacation at Mika Kai was nothing short of amazing. My family and I did not end up traveling far from the home and spent every moment we could swimming in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and staring off into the beautiful ocean. The home was very large, spacious and comfortable and we had our space away from each other when needed and lots of places to gather when we wanted to be together. I felt like we were staying at a private mini resort! The home was tastefully decorated, beds so comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked with all the appliances we needed. We wish our stay had been longer but we will be back!
It’s a lovely location. It was very nice to sit on the deck and listen to the waves crash against the cliffs. The home was well stocked with linens. The kitchen had everything we needed for the few times we cooked. Our family of 8 was very comfortable and everyone loved the house.
Beautiful home. Perfect setting. Our family had the best time at this home. Layout was perfect for us. The pool and back yard was amazing. We saw whales and turtles from the porch. Host was most attentive. Anything we needed. Could not have been any better. Thanks
As advertised but even better. The house is wonderfully appointed, comfortable and quiet. The ocean view stretches for miles and the sunrises sublime. Pool and relaxing hot tub compliment a day of sightseeing. Great spot for whale watching. A needed respite from my Colorado snowy winter. Location close enough to Hilo and Hawaii Volcano National Park but far enough away to enjoy privacy. Ingrid and Debbie are perfect hosts - available and involved but unobtrusive. If I could give six star review, I would. I hope to return someday. Jack Ewing Cuchara, Colorado
My parents, sisters and our spouses spent a week here to celebrate our parents 50th anniversary. It was perfect! Close to so many things to see and do on the island, whale watching from the breakfast table every day, great kitchen to cook dinner, comfortable accommodations…it was all great! The only downfall was that the road signs coming down to beach road are VERY hard to read in the dark. Our plane landed at 7:30 pm and by the time we got the rental car it was both very dark, and raining! Made it extremely difficult to find the turn. I called Ingrid and she walked us through it. Once we knew where it was it was a piece of cake the rest of the week. Also, depending on your service provider, the cell signal isn’t the best, so our maps app wouldn’t work. Again, once you know where it is it’s easy peasy! It was a wonderful trip that we will all remember forever! Thanks for such a great week!
