Property Overview
Take a break and unwind at this peaceful oasis. Enjoy beautiful views of the Kona coast from your private lanai, with plenty of fruits and herbs in the garden for your enjoyment. Depending on the season enjoy fresh papaya, mango, citrus, pineapples, figs, ulu, and bananas as well as an abundance of fresh herbs! The private entrance to the ohana may be accessed directly from the carport or walk through the red gate to your garden paradise. Truly beautiful space located in the downstairs of a two story home. Your ohana space is all your own. A short drive from the airport and downtown Kona, it’s the perfect hub for island adventures!
Located on the island's west side at a cool 1500 foot elevation, this small studio ohana is best suited for a single person or couple. There is NO Air Conditioning in the unit, but at the high elevation it stays very comfortable throughout the year.
Kona Garden Studio Ohana is situated 10 minutes up the hill from the Kona airport, as well as some of the Big Island's best surfing, diving and beaches. It is conveniently located close to Kona shopping and dining as well. A great hub for your island excursions.
This lovely ohana space has a sunset-facing sliding glass door opening to a private lanai where you can sit and enjoy the birds in the garden and year-round tropical climate. Keep in mind that with any place you stay in Kona, if you are at LESS than 1000 ft, it can be hot and humid. We are at 1500 ft - just perfect, it's warm and tropical, but not too hot. Relax to the sound of coqui frogs in the evening.
The unit comes with a fully equipped kitchenette (no oven), there is a single hot plate burner, toaster oven and outdoor BBQ grill. Electric kettle, blender, pots, pans, cutting boards, kitchen knives, mixing bowls with lids, colander, steamer, citrus juicer, cheese grater, measuring cups, dishes and utensils all on hand for your convenience.
Boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrella and snorkel gear is available for your use, located on the lanai. Beach towels are available inside of the unit as well.
Hawai’i island is mountainous and by far the largest of the Hawaiian islands. It is not feasible to see the entire island in a day. We highly recommend renting a car, ride-share is available in Kona, but to leave the area it becomes very expensive and less reliable. I have seen rentals become unavailable during peak travel times, so a reservation is advised. Bikes are great at sea level, but aren't advised as a primary mode of transportation as we live at 1500 ft above sea level and it is a very steep hill climb without bike lanes or shoulders.
If you like hiking, remember to bring heavy-duty hiking boots, with thick, rigid soles. You will be glad you did. Also, bring a rain jacket. You will need it at some point when you explore the Tropical Rainforest. If you plan to visit the summit of Mauna Kea, bring a pair of long pants and a warm jacket (I even wear gloves and a hat up there). On the summit, it is quite cold, freezing temperatures are common especially in the winter and overnight, at 13,796 feet above sea level.

Great hosts, easy check in!
The room was immaculate and had a cute ocean vibe.
Easy check in and out. Erin and Elias shared some amazing fruit from their garden. The Ohana was very clean. The bed was comfortable. They provided nice towels for the beach also. It was a very nice place to stay and we would stay again. Samantha and Jerry
Erin and Elias were great hosts. Beautiful home, accurate description on booking, perfect location.
Exceptional property. Highly recommend a stay at this house. The outside garden area was a special surprise.
This is a lovely, comfortable space with great amenities in a central location with wonderful people! Being at a slightly higher altitude means it's a bit cooler, and there are ceiling fans, a cozy seating seating area, kitchen area, and beautiful outdoor space as well. Highly recommended!
Beautiful spot with kind owners.
Absolutely amazing!! Erin and Elias were so welcoming and friendly. The studio was welcoming and warm. They gave us fresh fruit and many great recommendations that included food and places to see. We 100% would come back again and truly recommend staying here!!!!
Excellent. Great host, location, very well equipped.
A great little studio apartment with a million dollar view from the backyard lanai. Clean, comfortable, nicely decorated and stocked with all the amenities you could ask for, including the beach chairs and umbrella that we made considerable use of. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii were just a short drive away, including our favorite, Manini'owali. We also enjoyed a nice hike in the rainforest on a trail that was just a10 minute drive from the studio. The owners, Erin and Elias were two of the nicest hosts we've met, and we sure do hope we have the chance to stay with them again.
The only problem I had was not wanting to leave….the yard is beautiful, so relaxing. The house is clean and fresh, breakfast from the plants in the yard was an absolute treat! I would highly recommend to any solo traveler or couple needing to unwind! I loved falling asleep to the music of the frogs.
We had a perfect stay at the Kona Garden Studio Ohana. It’s spacious, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. The lanai was lovely for enjoying a cup of coffee and overlooks the beautifully tended garden. Erin and Elias are down-to-earth hosts who instantly made us feel welcomed. They shared some delicious fresh fruit—a really nice touch! We highly recommend staying!
Our stay at The Kona Garden Studio Ohana was nothing short of delightful! This charming and cozy space made our visit to the island of Hawaii truly special. From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The apartment was impeccably clean, thoughtfully stocked, and equipped with everything we needed for our weeklong stay. There was ample closet space and convenient under-bed storage, keeping all of our belongings organized. The evenings cooled down beautifully, and with the ceiling fans, the temperature was absolutely perfect—especially important for my husband, who doesn’t do well with heat at night. And the bed? Pure bliss! Both of us slept soundly every night. Sitting outside on the lanai, listening to the birds and frogs, was a peaceful way to unwind. What truly set this stay apart, though, were our hosts, Erin and Elias. If we could give them and their cozy apartment 10 out of 5 stars, we would! They welcomed us warmly and even shared fresh fruit from their backyard—a wonderful touch. Their kindness and hospitality made us feel like more than just guests. They were always quick to greet us with a friendly wave and offered fantastic tips on where to go and what to see.Their apartment was exactly as described, and the pictures were spot on. We absolutely loved our stay, and if we’re lucky enough to return to the Big Island, this will be our go-to place once again!
This studio has it all! The hosts were extremely kind and helpful. The place was very clean, the location was great, and to top it off we were able to get fresh papaya and lime from the property. 5 stars from us!
Very comfortable, clean and friendly place for us to stay. It is on the top of our list for a return visit.
