Direct Oceanfront Condo! Sea Turtles & Beautiful Sunsets from the Lanai

Edgar is a wonderful host! The condo is an older condo, not far from Kona town. The view from the lanai is wonderful. Whales spotted most days. It’s a little schlep from the elevator to the condo, but once you’re in, it’s 3 flights for a shorter path from the garage.The bed is comfortable, and good fans throughout. Ali drive can be noisy in the evening, but earplugs help with that. Da Poke Shack is part of the complex. Best Poke and Kailua pork plates around.

The condo was very nice, lani was beautiful with great views and comfortable lounge chairs, although the unit was a little dated it was very clean. The main 2 reason for 4 stars are: 1) the bedroom is on the street side and there is quite a bit of traffic noise and 2) the notes should have included a facility map including directions from the elevator. We got there late due to a rental car snafu and did not know there was an elevator. Humping bags up 4 floors after flying all day was not fun only to find out in the morning there was an elevator.

The ocean waves crashing captivated as soon as we walked into the condo! We opened the sliding door to the lanai and I parked myself there for almost the entire stay. We had everything needed to fix meals and enjoyed all meals and coffe on the lanai… just a wonderful experience. I loved the HI decor and HI artwork in the condo and nice touches of aloe cucumber lotion was really appreciated. Parking and elevator was easy. My husband snorkeled almost every day, making use of our host’s recommendations. We went to the Standing Stone Church next door which was great! Enjoyed this relaxing vacation so much and hope we can return.

This was a great location. Beautiful view of the ocean. I saw a whale breach through binoculars. Wow! Didn’t see any turtles, but sure was alovely stay.

It is exactly as it says it is. True oceanfront! Leave the Lanai door open and listen to the crashing waves. Host went above and beyond to let us stay past check out time on our last day. Will definitely be back!!

The ocean front view was amazing. Unfortunately, the overwhelming number of German roaches spoilt our stay. I did contact the owner, who never apologized. He was unwilling to get a professional out asap to treat the unit. My husband does pest control, and roach motels do nothing with German roaches. However, someone is scheduled to come out now we are leaving. There was no where available for us to move to on short notice. VRBO’s “guarantee” didn’t help either. I am disabled and we chose this location because of that. The unit itself has a great view, but the furniture is worn and the bathroom shower has rust spots and chips. The pool was supposed to be heated- it wasn’t. The washer dryer were very loud. The bed has seen better days, but so has the building. The location and view could not make up for my husband and I having to kill roaches every night. Pro tip leave the light on and less venture out from their holes. Wash everything in the kitchen before using. Because we found roaches in cupboards. If the owner had expressed any kind of apology, I’d have felt a little better about the situation. As it was it felt like we were held hostage, because all VRBO’s were sold out, and we’d have had to pay double for something last minute, and it would not have had the accessibility I need due to my mobility. We are so disappointed. And VRBO’s lack of care considering their “guarantee” means I will look elsewhere in future to find accommodation that I can rely on.

This condo had an incredible view! It was well stocked and comfortable.The communication with the host was on point, check and out were both easy processes. We enjoyed our stay very much-it was the perfect "home base" while we explored the Kona side of the island.

Communication with our host Edgar was excellent. The unit was clean and well stocked although there was a broken lamp. We enjoyed use of the beach chairs and cooler for beach days. We slept the first night in the bedroom but it was loud from street noises and bright from outside lights so we spent the rest of our stay sleeping on the fold out couch in the living room and enjoyed the sound of the waves every night. They were sand blasting in the parking garage so there was a lot of noise and dust at times there, and the one way entrance was being used as an exit as well, making it a dangerous exit. The location was great and close to shopping and numerous great beaches to swim, surf and snorkel.

We experienced a cleaning issue that resulted in us cancelling our stay after arriving. The on-island contact and owner were both very responsive and attempted to resolve the issue; the owner also provided a refund without contest. Based on the other positive reviews, and the communication, I'm willing to believe it was a one time problem rather than a pattern, so my review will focus on other elements.

I thought I was clooser to Kona, so that we could walk to the town.

You can't beat the view from the lanai! It's a great location for venturing with plenty of options nearby, or a good base for exploring the entire island. Everything in the unit was clean and worked. The property itself is showing its age and wear. Some reviews have mentioned the road noise, but that isn't a distraction if you're not trying to sleep in .... and there's too much to see and do on the island to spend time sleeping in. The host provided great instructions, details, and tips a few days before our arrival. The unit is stocked with a good assortment of beach gear for use by guests.

The Condo at Kailua Kona was a bit pricey. The furniture was outdated and uncomfortable. While the bed was great, it was very noisy in the bedroom since it faces Ali'i Drive. The outside lights on the walkway were on all night which is great, but the room did not have black out curtains so the bedroom was too bright all night long.The ocean view and sounds from our lanai were wonderful. It was easy to get to shops and restaurants by car in just a few short minutes. Parking at the condo was easy.

A very clean condo with everything we needed. We slept well in the bed every night. The view from the lanai was incredible, in particular the sunsets were just amazing. My wife and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The unit is spacious...large, very comfy living area with a dining nook for two, opening up onto a lanai with a spectacular ocean view. Adjacent decently equipped kitchen with a large fridge, oven, dishwasher and microwave. Stackable wasjet/dryer was great. The large comfy bedroom is on the streetside which is noisy by day, but no real problem at night. Bathroom/shower/tub is not updated, but adequate. Outstanding communication with manager including his huge email file with useful tips. The unit is a bit old, not updated, but a great value. We enjoyed it.

The view from the condo lanai was amazing. The condo had everything we needed: beach chairs, beach towels and snorkeling gear. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The bedroom is on the street side of the building with the windows open this makes it a bit noisy for sleeping. If you like to walk or run, the location is great but stores are a little far if youjust want to grab a cup of coffee.The owner was very attentive and easy to contact. Wonderful location, right on the ocean.

We loved our stay here. The views can’t be beat. The furniture was comfortable - I really slept well! The kitchen was well equipped with every thing we needed. Lots of spices there for our use too. There is plenty of snorkel equipment, beach towels, etc. We had a little trouble getting the tv going and were completely impressed with the local contact, she was quick and efficient and such a nice person - a real gem. We can recommend highly!

As advertised, this is a beautiful condo with a fantastic ocean view.

We have stayed at various KBK properties for the past 20 years. This unit has wonderful views and the host is very responsive as is his local contact. Unit is a bit dated though clean and appointed with everything one needs for a great stay. Our only wish, especially for the price point, is that the unit had a/c for the 3:30 to 5:30pm hot part of the day or additional shades to keep the unit cooler when there are no breezes during those warm hours.

We had a wonderful stay at Kona Bali Kai overlooking the ocean. The property was perfect for us and I especially loved the Hawaiian artwork. I definitely recommend staying here if you plan to visit Kona and are looking for something ocean front.

Spent the end of our honeymoon here. Wonderful view from the lanai; great place for a meal. We only stayed for two nights, and we were treated to an amazing sunset the first night (we were at a luau the other night). Good proximity to Kona-area beaches; we did Captain Cook (beware the hike out) and Makalawena, which was absolutely perfect. The bed was super comfy, though the road noise was a little annoying (the bed room is on the road side of the condo and you’ll probably be too hot to close the windows). The apartment wasn’t super clean, especially with dust around the fans and higher surfaces. It was also pretty warm even with the windows open at night. Overall, it was good, and if you plan to spend most of your time out, it’s a good place to sleep and spend the mornings and evenings.

The condo was nice and in good condition. Safe and pleasant with lanai overlooking the ocean. Lovely view. But the bedroom is on a busy road. At night, even with the ceiling fan and floor fan going, the car-truck-motorcycle noise is very loud until about 2am.The ocean waves don't reach the bedroom even with the sliding door open. We ended up sleeping part of each night in the living room on couch pillows and folded blankets with waves in the background. That was better, but not ideal.

Property was close to shops and dining but right off the main road and a bit noisy at night.

Great experience

This was the first time my husband and I have ever been to Hawaii and this place was an unforgettable spot!! The sunsets from the balcony will be cherished memories that will last a lifetime! The entire building is a little dated, but that didn't matter to us. The only thing we saw that could maybe be different is having a fully stock kitchenware set. Some of the knives were really dull, or falling apart. We loved the location since it was so close to downtown, but far enough away it wasn't too busy. The last half of our trip was spent in Keaau and we could tell that things weren't as "loved" here. With that being said, we understand that Edgar doesn't live on the island so the small details get over looked. There is no AC and even coming from a desert climate it was still very hot at night. Luckily we always bring a portable fan so that helped to move the air that the two provided from the condo didn't get. Overall we would definitely stay here again!

The ocean view was the best ever. Great location and items were left for activities. There is quite a bit of street noise in the back bedroom and it can get hot if there is no sea breeze. Itemweleftsnorkelsnorkeling,

Very nice condo facing the ocean, ten feet from the water. An older property and well maintained. No air conditioning and it is not needed with the ocean breeze. Two beaches close by. Sand there is course than other beaches on Kona. Close to shops and other activities. The condo is quite, has a pool and an elevator.

The property was very clean, in a good location close to Kona-Kailua, and had an amazing view. A very comfortable overall stay for 9 days. We would definitely recommend this property again for anyone who's looking for several nights in Kona, but doesn't want to pay the exorbitant cost for a resort. The immediate area is generally quiet and located close to several public beaches. There are other really nice beaches within easy driving distance. We had a great time here and would definitely recommend again. We had the opportunity to watch two sea turtles up close one day as they frolicked in the waters just in front of the building. The owner was great too - very responsive, and kind to let us have late check-out for a night flight. Definitely a great place to stay for two people looking for an adventure on big island.

This property had everything we needed for a spectacular and relaxing vacation. The view of the shoreline is stunning and the sound of the ocean waves are soothing. We would, most definitely, return here again.

The condo had everything we needed for a great stay as well as beach towels, beach chairs, snorkel equipment, bogey board. The street in front could be noisy but it didn't bother us.

This view is priceless. The pictures do not do the apartment justice. The vaulted ceiling make it feel 10x times bigger as well as very up to date with style. Cutest place and could not beat the view for anything. Parking spot is really close to stairway directly to room. Pool was great and having an ocean view from it was amazing. Hosts were so quick to respond and help with absolutely anything. Wish we had more nights at this place will be returning!

Simply put, this place was amazing. My wife and I enjoyed the ocean view and the space had everything needed for a great experience. We spent lots of our time exploring the island but it was so nice to come back and see the gorgeous sunset while watching the tides come and go. No complaints. The host left a very detailed introduction to the property and island that had everything you need to find things to do. Very happy all around!

My husband and I honeymooned here in early May 2024. The pictures on the listing are EXACTLY what to expect we were so excited to see the view in person. The building itself is a little dated, but as soon as we got to our room we completely forgot about it. When we first arrived we were nervous about the noise level we would hear from being so close to the street, however the waves themselves were so loud we couldn’t hear anything over them. Kitchen was perfect for our breakfasts and lunches, and having a washer dryer in unit was a blessing. We are so excited to come back someday!

We stayed here our last 2 days of a 12 day trip. It was absolutely amazing! I wish we could’ve stayed longer. The condo was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. As was the couch which is where I slept so I could hear the waves crashing as I fell asleep. We found a little beach area just down the stairs with a picnic table so you could sit and enjoy the waves in the sun. Very close to everything. I would definitely stay here again!!

Beautiful ocean view out the very private lanai. Very comfortable mattress. Parking is adequate and access is easy from the street. As other reviews stated the bedroom is facing the street and at times can be noisy. Otherwise a very nice stay.

Great place to stay. Beautiful oceanfront property. Away from hustle and bustle of Kailua-Kona but close enough to easily drive into town.

We didn’t spend a lot of time at the condo during the day, but it’s in a great location for doing various day trips. It had everything we needed and the view from the lanai was fantastic. We took advantage of the small farmers market next door on Saturday and Sunday. It was also really nice to have beach chairs and a boogie board to use. We would definitely stay here again in the future!

The view from the lanai was wonderful. The extra amenities were unexpected but helped make beach day a bit better. The bedroom is on the street side and we had to sleep with the bedroom windows closed. But overall a perfect last few days on kona.

Beautiful spacious place, comfortable breezes, fully equipped kitchen, amazing view from the kitchen, dining room, living space and especially the balcony. Very comfy bed and pillows. When the toaster didn't work, Edgar had a new one at our door in about an hour. Wow! There was even snorkeling gear for us to use, and binoculars to get a closer view of the whales. Free bus service available every hour. We were able to store our luggage in security at the front desk until our late flight. The pool and hot tub were also clean and well maintained. A great place to stay. We would definitely recommend, and would love to come again. Thank you.

We saw so many whales from the lanai that we lost count. The condo worked perfectly for two people. The bedroom is right next to a busy street so it was noisy. Put on the fan to drown out the traffic for sleep. There are extra binoculars, beach chairs, towels and scuba gear. There is no air conditioning but the ocean breezes kept us comfortable. We intend to stay here again. Aloha!

This was a great property. Awesome view. So close to the water you can toss a rock in it. In the early morning sun it was like looking into an aquarium, we could see so many fish. Watched whales each day from the lanai. Had everything needed in the condo: towels, beach chairs, coolers, even snorkel gear. 💕

This property is beautiful! We are very impressed by the views from the lanai and the size of the place. It is very roomy and accomodating for 2 and we could see whale tails and spouting from the living room and lanai and see fish in the surf. Lots of ammenities here: 4 beach towels, snorkel gear, laundry detergent, sunblock/spray, binoculars, boogie boards, beach chairs, cooler, safe, plenty of shampoo and body wash, coffee and tea supplies. Host provided lots of info before check in and printed in room on local hikes and happy hours, public transportation info, how to use the remotes, and where light switches are located. Very helpful, would stay here again and recommend. The only downside is the room is a bit of a walk from the stairs and even further from the elevator regardless of where you park so if you have someone who can't walk well, you may want a room closer to the elevator.

The week we stayed was great. The view is spectacular and we saw whales on 2 different days from the lanai. The lava beach behind the property was enjoyable. There was a bunch of surfers catching waves just behind us. We highly recommend the Shaka Tacoz food truck at Ali'i Gardens Marketplace, it was a great value with great food. It is close to Kahalu’u Beach for snorkeling. Having a cooler, beach towels and beach chairs available was handy. We left a large boogie board for the next renters.There is a reasonable priced fruit stand right next door on the weekends.
