Property Overview
Wonderful, private and cozy cottage up in the forest of Kaloko Mauka ( directly above Kona town!). Situated on 5 acres and 2700 foot elevation, this stand alone cottage is surrounded by beautiful ohia trees and is at least 300 feet from the main residence. The owners live further down on the property. Wild chickens and native birds abound.
Kaloko is a special place with cooler weather than you will find down in town. It's nice to retreat up here after a hot day at the beach. Afternoon/evening rain does occur and it provides perfect sleeping weather. Evenings/mornings in the winter months can be cool, so we recommend light sweaters/socks if you get cold.
We are located on Mount Hualalai right above Kailua Kona. This one bedroom house has a small deck on the front and a larger deck with yard in the back. Nice and secluded. Perfect for the couple wanting a romantic getaway!
10 minutes to the airport, beaches and shops. Hike the mountain trail, birdwatch or just relax on the lanai! .
We have 2 rental homes on this property.: For those families that need a little more room, please inquire about our other vacation rental #186204! We will give families a discount for renting both cabins.

The entire process from booking to checking in and out was as smooth as silk. Caroline & Scott are exceptional hosts, everything was explained in the letter with the keys, right down to the “what to do if this happens”. If you love being sung to sleep by frogs each night-look no further. The private hot tub came in handy our second night. The washing machine & dryer allowed us to pack light enough to carry on to our next island destination. The dehumidifier was an awesome addition as I was concerned about this-like said before they’re excellent hosts and have thought of everything.
Nice cottage in the rainforest
Great location up the mountain. Private and nice and cool at night.
We scored. Very secluded, clean and ever think you need to have a wonderful stay in a beautiful place. Caroline is a friendly person. The only time we saw here was as we were either entering or leaving the property and she was doing the same. Highly recommend this oasis if you are in the search for a romantic place to enjoy a little bit of paradise. Mahalo
Absolutely sublime. Quiet, tons of vegetation, birds, cool, and restful. Bring at least a good sweater and a pair of slacks for early am and eve when it can get chilly. A very cozy warm home. You’ll love it!
Great experience with thoughtful accomodations. Excellent communication and detailed instructions for arrival. Was quiet and relaxing.
Perfect, secluded little place -- away from the crowds and the resorts and up in the cool-air beauty of a lush Hawaiian rain forest. The airport, Costco, shopping and dining were all within a 10 to 20-minute drive. Caroline and Scott were amazing hosts and ensured everything was ready and well-communicated for our stay. They also provided beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, a cooler, and beach towels (we only used the towels, cooler and beach chairs - which you can wear on your back to carry. They also had fresh flowers for us and provided lots of recommendations for great restaurants. We didn't end up using the hot tub, although it was on and ready for us. One of our favorite things were the serenades of the Coqui frogs at night. We will most definitely stay here again!
I stayed there for a triathlon close by. Great spot to get some rest where it's a bit cooler up the hill. Great communication with the owners as well.
My husband and I came here for 10 days to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and we were not disappointed! We have been to the Big Island many times, mostly camping and traveling. This time we decided to stay put and just RELAX! This sweet little cottage had everything we needed to do just that: complete kitchen, washer/dryer, a comfy living area with good internet, a very confortable queen sized bed with nice bedding, and last but not least, a hottub on the back deck access through a sliding glass door in the bedroom!! We soaked pretty much every evening after loafing on the beach or hiking in the rainforest. Evenings and mornings can be chilly up here so plan accordingly. The cottage is about 10 minutes up the side of the volcano from Kona with easy access to the coast, town and beaches. The cottage provided beach chairs, soft cooler and umbrella. Also boogie boards that we planned to but never used. All in all 10/10!
Great place for some quiet time. Surrounded by a beautiful rain forrest.. Very clean and had everything we needed. Water pressure a bit low in the shower, but not an issue. Plenty of hot water. Loved walking the area in the am. Our flight was delayed and it's very dark in this area, so had a rough time finding the place. Didn't realize at first we had to go through a gate. Have to get out to open and close. Not bad, but it rained a lot. Great place to get some R&R.
Very cozy and secluded. Perfect spot for a quiet getaway, but still accessible to the beach and nearby attractions via a short car ride.
Me and my friend stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed the beauty of the property along with the tranquility. The views overlooking Kona were amazing and the price was right! We were able to fully unplug and get the much needed rest we deserve! I would definitely refer friends and family and I will stay there again. I also wanted to give a shout out to Caroline and Scott for honoring my Veteran status by giving a military discount, I was so appreciative to say the least! -Kim
Nice house. Had just about everything you needed. In the rain forest. Beautiful
