The Space:
Two bedrooms and three baths sleep up to eight in a lodge-like home. The circular wood-burning fireplace anchors the living space, surrounded by imported woodwork and fine glass and stone finishes. A sleeper sectional and separate lounge area give the group room to relax, while the open kitchen is equipped for shared meals. The lanai looks into the rainforest, and a kid-friendly hideaway under the stairs adds a fun detail for younger guests.

The Neighborhood:
Volcano Village is a rainforest community beside Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, known for its cool temperatures, tree ferns, and much slower pace than the coast. You will want a car here for the park, supplies, and meals, but it is an easy trade for the setting. Explore the Thurston Lava Tube, crater overlooks, and volcanic trails, then stop in the village for a small cafe or local art gallery. This neighborhood is made for guests who want the island's geologic story and forest scenery to be the center of their trip.
Getting Around:
Hilo International Airport is about 45 minutes away, an easy drive through lush upcountry forest. A rental car is a must for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and reaching Hilo's beaches, shopping, and restaurants. Volcano village itself is small and walkable for a few local shops and cafes. Parking is generally simple, available on site or along quiet residential streets.
Other Things to Note:
This vacation rental has external security cameras on the front porch and side of the home. This vacation rental is not equipped with air conditioning, although it is rarely needed in Volcano's temperate climate. Permit numbers: STVR-19-357706 and NUC-19-0957. Good neighbor policy: this is a residential neighborhood, so please keep noise down between 10:00 p. m. and 8:00 a. m., no parties or commercial events are permitted, park only in the designated spaces, and please treat our neighbors with aloha. Emergency and natural disaster information is posted inside the home, and we ask every guest to review it on arrival. This is a beautiful home. It has every kitchen item you could imagine; the beds are comfortable; and the living space is quite large so everyone was comfortable lounging around. The back porch is gorgeous and a great place to enjoy the scenery of the rain forest property.

Relaxing beautiful home.
Gorgeous home with stunning art and decor. Well appointed kitchen. Stunning backyard and back deck with amazing jungle foliage surrounding. The singing frogs, geckos and pheasants added to the experience! The beds were super comfortable and the bathrooms were beautiful! We are a family of 5 and we enjoyed cooking meals at home, playing outside and watching movies! We can say enough about how gorgeous and well laid out the house is! Our three kids shared a king bed and enjoyed cuddling on the custom window seat/couch to watch movies. We enjoyed a fire in the fireplace too! We will definitely look into renting again next time we come to Hawaii!!! Our kids LOVED it!!!

The house is a complete gem. Beautiful, spacious, well designed architecture and layout. Lovely furnishings and decor (some Asian inspired). The lanai and yard are beautiful and so peaceful. We felt like we were in the womb of the forest! No bugs whatsever, but birds, and nightly sounds of frogs. The owners have been very thoughtful in many details. Lighting, kitchen supplies, linen cupbards well stocked, etc. Everything so clean, organized and comfortable. We loved the feeling of utter peace and isolation, and loved being an 8 min drive into Volcanoes National Park. And a few minutes' to the several restaurants and basic shops in the 'village'. The key pad code to enter the house was not working, but the Vacasa people answered the help line quickly and talked me through how to get into the lockbox for a key.
An amazing property. the only downfall was access to nearbye reasonably priced food. Also, a bracelet was left behind we think. We were told they would let us know if they found it and did not hear back (99% sure it was left on shelf in bathroom upstairs). But the comfort, the quietness, cleanliness, and personal touches to this home were beyond amazing for us. If you are looking for a quiet, clean, incredibly comfortable tropical "jungle" type experience, this is the place!
Two bedrooms both with comfy beds, beautiful lighting and outstanding showers. The large family room has enough beds and couches to accommodate the full 8 person max. An outdoor heated shower head made cleaning off from the beach a delightful experience and the property in general provides bountiful botanical delights. Full kitchen with more dishes than you could possibly use, and no empty cabinets for food. Plan on using counter space for any groceries. Info states the water isn't potable but we found the house was equipped with drinkable water filtration system so that's a plus!The property is not fully accessible but for the fully able it's a wonderful spot!!! Would definitely stay again
Property is full of life and house was nice & cozy with fire place. Our second time staying here and definitely not our last. Great place to relax and unplug from every day life!!!
We stayed at Hale Hapu'u in June 2024 and loved it! It was the best set up for us while we visited Volcano, HI. We had two families with teenagers, so the set up was great! The kids loved exploring around the property and listening to the tree frogs at night. The location was perfect, the drive to Volcanoes National Park was super close. We enjoyed spending an entire day in the park and having a quick drive back to the house. We loved the house, the decor was awesome, appliances and kitchen were great because we were able to make meals for the whole crew and hang out playing board games and cards at night. The hosts were great, they checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed and didn't have any questions. We would highly recommend Hale Hapu'u, the hosts and Vacasa. A++++
