Stunning, Romantic Cottage on Slope of Hualalai

This was a repeat stay for us because we absolutely love Gale’s property. Best spot on the Big Island because it’s close to town, but still accessible if you want to go to Waimea, Hilo or Volcano National Park. Very private spot with a beautiful lanai where we enjoyed breakfast each day. Absolutely favorite vacation spot and we will be back! The property is so clean and has everything you need to have an enjoyable time - love that Gale thinks of everything - from banana bread to welcome us, to beach gear and coolers, to kitchen implements and various coffee makers.

The cottage is exceptionally well maintained and very well equipped. Gale met us on the night we arrived and provided instructions on everything. She obviously takes great pride in the property. The cottage is an excellent place to relax in privacy. We spent several days simply sitting on the porch and reading. We highly recommend to any couple seeking peace and quiet.

The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. The cottage was beautifully decorated with many fresh bouquets of plants and flowers. The garden was enchanting. Gale the Host was thoughtful and kind. She greeted us with homemade applebanana bread, a bowl of fresh homegrown papaya, lemon applebanana, and lime. Gale gave us a tour of the entire property and gracious throughout our stay.

I always wondered what makes a VRBO rental get an excellent score of a perfect 10, and now I know! Gale is an INCREDIBLE hostess and is a treasure trove of knowledge about the island. Our first day she brought us fresh fruit and banana bread, which was quite delicious and so sweet of her. The cottage has everything you would hope to have in a vacation rental and also things you didn't even know you wanted! Seriously, I cannot think of one thing we needed that wasn't provided. It is quiet and serene, the lanai is the perfect way to start the morning, the bath robes for the outdoor shower were amazing, I could go on and on... Everything was clean and well taken care of. We told her that we would recommend her place to anyone we know that is traveling to Hawaii. We hope to return one day! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

We loved our time at the cottage! Gale is an incredible host, the cottage is just as gorgeous as the pictures and immaculate. We loved our morning coffees on the lanai and the lush surrounding gardens.

The cottage was beautiful, very nicely decorated, and well supplied with everything. Gale was a wonderful host, with lots of helpful suggestions and advice, and interesting local lore as well. We loved the location especially - close to Kailua Kona, but out in the country too! The little road the cottage is on was perfect for daily walks.

10 days of perfect mornings, days, evenings. Host and Hom are come, completely prepared, immaculate, and beautifully constructed. I almost don’t want to leave a good review as I would hate to see it be fully booked next time we wish to visit

This property is a true retreat. The house was well beautiful and stocked. It is in such a peaceful location that we felt like we had a secret little private oasis. The property manager was fabulous as well! Would definitely stay here again.

This cottage is one of the best rental properties that we have stayed in. Gale was a fantastic host, quick to respond to messages, detailed at check-in and provided a loaf of amazing banana bread, which was appreciated after a long travel day. The kitchen had everything we could have needed and a great gas grill. The size was perfect for us for nine nights. The early mornings and evenings were cool on the hillside, which quickly cooled down the cottage. Being close to Palani Road/Hawaii Belt allowed us to avoid the Queen K to get into Kona quickly. I would absolutely rent this VRBO again for a future trip to the Big Island.

Perfect place to stay for our trip to the Big Island. Gale has thought of everything you could need and she took the time to share her knowledge of the island and lots of great recommendations with us. And her banana bread was fantastic! I honestly don’t think it could have been any better.

Everything about this cottage was perfect. Gale greeted us and walked us through the property at check in. She was also willing to answer questions about the island and sites throughout our trip. The cottage was great. It had everything we needed (kitchen, bathroom, and beach gear). Mornings and evenings outside enjoying the view were perfect. I can’t wait to come back and stay here! This was a trip we will never forget, and truly showed how above and beyond Gale goes for her guests. Stay here and you will have a luxury resort-level vacation all to yourselves. The cottage, the grounds, the service, the privacy, the location - all of it. It's simply outstanding. During our stay my partner needed unplanned surgery and I then needed to travel back to CA for 2 of our days there. Not the tropical getaway either of us expected, but it ended up being the most beautiful place to recover and heal, and we left with such a deep appreciation for the cottage and for Gale. She made sure my partner was ok while I was gone, and I never could have made the week work without that. She is an incredible person, as well as someone with impeccable taste in how she has designed and maintained the cottage. It's our favorite VRBO we've ever stayed in, and we've been active customers since the late 90s. Seriously, you will be surrounded by beauty. It's truly spectacular, and Gale is there if you need her, and you'll never know she's there if you don't. It doesn't get any better than that!

Super calm, beautiful chateau! The weather was cool and rainy so the evenings after beach play were comfortable. It was heavenly on the front porch listening to the birds, bugs and frogs in the mornings and evenings. Perfect getaway for 2

My wife and I have stayed in many different vacation rentals all around the world and this is one of the best!!! This hillside cottage is away from the bustle of Kailua-Kona but only a 5-to-10-minute drive from shopping, coffee and the Airport. We heard nor saw traffic, day or night, but you will hear plenty of nature. The cottage itself is immaculate, well maintained and has all the required comfort conveniences, coffee makers, microwave, awesome toaster oven, gas cooktop and all dishes and utensils to match. High speed internet is awesome, and the bed is extremely comfortable. Gale is a great host, met us late, worked with our departure time and gave us great advice on where to go and what to see. I highly recommend this as one of the best rentals for 2 on the Big Island!!!

Our stay at this AMAZING guest house was our best VRBO experience ever! When we arrived at the property, Gale, our host, met us and showed us around the property. More than that, Gale offered her vast knowledge of the Big Island like a personal concierge. She took the time to find out what we wanted to do during our one week stay and gave us excellent suggestions for restaurants, sights to see and things to do. The guesthouse is private, nicely appointed and VERY comfortable. The house has outstanding amenities and the area where it is located is absolutely lovely. If the house is available, book it. You won’t regret it!

There are not enough adjectives to describe how awesome this property is and how wonderful Gale is. We absolutely loved our stay at Gale”s gorgeous cottage. When we arrived Gale met us and gave us the tour and there was delicious banana bread! The cottage is just gorgeous and every amenity has been thoughtfully provided. We spent two weeks there and it flew by. We would love to come and stay again. Gale is an absolutely wonderful host.

My son and his girlfriend got engaged in Kona, they were staying with friend's but my husband and I wanted a special place for them to go after they got engaged for 2 nights, Not only was Gale available to help with location for the engagement, she helped me set up a special Champagne toast for when my son and fiance arrived. They said it was the most beautiful place ever and that it was an Epic experience. Thank you Gale for providing the perfect romantic spot and all your help!

We stayed 5 nights at The Cottage at Ohia Place and enjoyed every minute. Immaculate gardens dominate this property and gorgeous birds call them home. The stunning cottage with beautiful wood elements captures the natural essence of the island. With unmatched distant ocean vistas, this location makes you want to spend the entire day on the lanai taking it all in, especially the sunsets that are never the same with colors that last for an hour. Our host had every detail covered and spent time helping us learn about the property and the island. The cottage had every amenity we could wish for indoors and even a second shower outdoors surrounded by private, gorgeous lava rock walls in the garden. Our stay was beyond wonderful and we'll be back!

Let me start with the negatives….ok there were none. This was a great place in a great location with a fantastic host. My wife is often hesitant to stay at a VRBO because you do not always know what you are going to get. This place shattered all of our expectations. We have stayed at the Four Seasons on the Big Island and these accommodations rival it. Beautiful bathroom and shower, comfortable bed, perfect kitchen and laundry. The grounds were pristinely manicured and beautifully designed. The outdoor shower was a nice touch. And everything was so so so clean. It was like we were the first people ever to stay here (and we were not). All the appliances and kitchen gadgets seemed unused. Amazing. Parking is easy and Gail even supplied beach towels, beach chairs and coolers if we wanted them. We went to a resort for the last few days on the big island but we wish we would have stayed longer at the VRBO. My only worry in singing such high praises is that it may not be booked when we come back. 😀

TThis cottage is one of a kind, tucked away on a family estate, approximately 5 miles above the shoreline of Kailua-Kona. It's on a quite hidden road, set back into a beautiful Hawaiian family estate. It's secure with a locked gate. The cottage has been impeccably thought out. The host personally furnished and maintains the interior of the property, and nothing has been left out. The cottage and interior are so well maintained that you feel like you are the first guest. From beach towels to outdoor shower, to umbrellas to ponchos to a yoga mat, you have it all. She greeted us on our arrival with a wonderful loaf of bread made from Hawaiian Apple bananas and did a very informative walkthrough of the property. You are sure to create many memories as we did, sitting out at the front lanai overlooking the beautiful, landscaped garden and listening to the sounds of the Hawaiian wildlife. If you are looking for a cozy, comfortable, peaceful place yet only minutes away from the shoreline and the city, look no further.

We had a wonderful, restful and peaceful stay at this beautiful cottage.. Gale is a wonderful host who works hard to pay attention to every detail. Her Place was incredibly clean and lovingly stocked with extra touches like a yoga mat, a spice rack, condiments in the fridge amd an air printer. Her grounds are extraordinary. We hope to visit her again.

Loved our stay at Gale’s. Super private and amazing views. This is our favorite area to stay on the island because it’s convenient to everything but also tucked away and completely private. Enjoyed all our breakfasts on the lanai and a few dinners watching the sunset. The cottage is so well appointed and luxurious feeling this will definitely feel like a vacation away from home. Stocked with everything you need and all the details (just note there is no dishwasher or oven - no problem for us) and the WiFi is a tad on the slow side (again no problem for us since we didn’t have to do any work) 100% would recommend and will come back if we have the chance to!

We visit the Big Island often, and this was our second stay at this cottage. The cottage is spacious and well-designed, thoughtfully appointed, and in a beautiful location; both the cottage itself and the environs are immaculate. The location is ideal if one is looking for a more out-of-the-way spot, while still being close to town; it's also useful if you travel around the island, because it is right off the key highway that one uses for that purpose. The cottage is near the host's residence (which is helpful if something comes up that needs attention) while still being positioned far enough down the hill to be quite private. Gale not only does a great job with the place itself, but is also extremely helpful. As an illustration, while we were there this time, the island was hit by a substantial storm that knocked down trees and power lines in the area (leaving power out in the cottage and the entrance blocked). Gale was not only there to help us find a way to park and get in when we arrived and discovered the blocked drive during the storm, but also provided emergency lighting and resources, and was there the next morning to hook up a generator until power was restored. This could have been a bad scene, but Gale was on top of everything, and it all worked out just fine. She goes above and beyond, and it shows both in the property and in how she treats her guests. We certainly hope to be back in the future!

The property was as advertised and flawlessly appointed. The location is very good for those who want a bit more privacy and close access to the "high road" for getting around the island; although it only takes about 15 minutes or so to drive down to the coast, those who want to be right next to town or the water may want to look at a different area. But for those looking for something more lush, with more space and quiet, it's absolutely perfect. The lanai has a view of the ocean (though, as noted, this is quite a bit up-slope, so be aware of that) and the surrounding grounds are immaculately kept with coffee trees, flowering ginger, and other attractive flora. The cottage itself is spacious and well-furnished, the kitchen and bathroom well-designed and functional, and the level of detail put into everything about the place is fantastic. (The host was also both gracious and generous. She brought us gifts of food on multiple occasions, and was warm and welcoming. She was also very respectful of our privacy, and we never felt the least bit intruded upon.) I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

This has to be the finest lodging in Kona for a couple that seeks solitude, luxury, beauty, and amenities. The owner of this property has created a special retreat that is away from the busy downtown area yet convenient to stores, attractions, and the roads to the rest of the island. Everything that you could want or ask for is incorporated into this cottage - it is so completely equipped. A warm-out-of-the-oven banana bread (best we have ever tasted) greeted us along with a softball size avocado and assorted island fruits. We so much enjoyed the grounds and sitting on the deck while taking in the view - including sunsets. We had a truly wonderful experience!
