Where to begin, the photos describe the condo perfectly. The condo was extremely clean. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen had every thing needed for complete meal preparations. The view…the pictures do it no justice, incredible. The grounds are well maintained and the setting is very quiet. Location is in proximity to the island. We had a 10/10 stay and would definitely stay here again.
We recently departed this unit and throughout our stay we were met with frustration and disappointment during our stay. What was intended to be a peaceful and restorative trip for our family quickly became highly stressful due to a series of preventable issues and the complete absence of property management support. Upon arrival, we were locked out due to a malfunctioning door—stranded with our two young children and several hundred dollars’ worth of groceries. After attempting to contact the owner for two and a half hours, we had no choice but to pack up all of our belongings, relocate to a hotel, unpack, request additional refrigerators for our food, and later repack and return once the issue was resolved. While we appreciate the partial refund to offset that disruption, the overall experience fell far short of what any guest should reasonably expect. Unfortunately, the problems did not stop there. We dealt with a loud water alarm going off and other ongoing maintenance issues. My husband to access the breaker box at least four times during our stay. These were not minor inconveniences—they disrupted our time and added significant stress. Even more concerning, we were expected to take responsibility for these issues and to meet with service personnel during what was supposed to be personal, family time. I wanted to love our stay but unfortunately it fell very short of expectations. A dedicated property manager would have made a huge difference in making any stay better.
Without a doubt this was the best experience we have had with a property and the owner! John was first class in everything he did as well as how his property was ready for us right when we got there! If you are going to visit Maui, you have to consider this place! Clean, comfortable, great location to all of your activities and the views and anmenities are priceless! Event the locals told us that we were staying in a great place based on location to all of our scheduled activities. John was the best and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!
"Honu Heaven"...because we visited with the sea turtles every day...just a few steps from our doorstep! This lovely condo has EVERYTHING you could possibly need or want during your stay in Maui...spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. A great cup of coffee to enjoy the morning light on the ocean...and the perfect ocean view to enjoy your evening glass of wine or dinner. You are literally "one" with the ocean in this beautiful spot! A very gracious host who is there to assist with any need or question...it was the perfect vacation spot! I have visited Maui quite a few times in the past...but did not know Ma'alaea Bay. We found it to be a great central location to explore the entire island...and we did just that!!! The condo complex felt very private and and peaceful...and the building and grounds are well-maintained...a realĺy nice alternative to a big, busy sprawling resort. Such a peaceful haven to return to after a busy day of exploring the island. You will have all the sea turtle viewing you could possibly hope for...in their natural and undisturbed environment. Honu heaven...we LOVED it all!!!
It was perfect! The location, walking distance to restaurants and the harbor, amenities in the condo! Highly recommend!
This property is perfect! It has everything you need, including boogie boards, snorkel gear, chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, and anything else you can probably think of! It's clean, comfortable, and a great location! The nearby beaches are not busy at all! I will recommend to anyone visiting Maui to stay here!
Relaxing with spectacular views, clean and many amenities… excellent host communications… would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again.
I would stay here again without hesitation. Location is terrific. Only a 3 min walk to Starbucks and only 100 feet to the ocean from your door.

Amazing property just steps from the ocean and all the sea turtles and whales you could watch. Incredibly responsive owner/host and unit was as well-appointed as any we've ever stayed in with VRBO. Quite literally had everything we needed -- extra toilet paper, yoga mat, great beach chairs and towels, remarkable kitchen, etc. Check-in was incredibly easy and the unit was clean with everything working perfectly. We're frequent VRBO guests and have never had a property live up to, and beyond, everything we expected -- until this one! And we loved the quieter south side of Maui with a convenient drive to great restaurants and beaches at Wailea.
My husband and I stayed and our two teen daughters, escaping to Maui from the cold of Minnesota. We absolutely loved the central location to explore Maui!John and Trisha are excellent hosts. The condo was immaculate and had all the extras from beach chairs to reef-safe sunblock to a well-stocked kitchen. We so so appreciated the communication and suggestion of activities from John. They had a wonderful welcome gift waiting for us of coffee and chocolates!We hope to be guests in the future. I highly recommend staying at this condo!!!
The condo was in a great location and perfectly decorated. John was very responsive with questions and helped me plan a fun little Christmas surprise for my family. We liked being on the ground floor so we could walk in and out of our condo to sit and relax on the chairs right outside or walk along the wall to watch the sea turtles. We also saw whales right from the condo! It was an easy walk to several restaurants and to the beach. We absolutely loved our time in Maui.
Immaculate condo and streamlined everything! The building and property are well maintained and so peaceful. The interior of the condo is super clean and tastefully decorated. It’s a serene environment all the way around. Sunrises with the turtles, easily 25 turtles a day floating just off the rocks getting their morning feed from the rocks. The pool is lovely, and the location is fantastic. We can’t wait until we can do a return trip! Beds are comfortable and the kitchen fully stocked, and the outdoor gas grills are a short thirty paces from back patio door. We really appreciated the WiFi and the ease of getting checked in and out. This was our best VRBO experience we have ever had. Simply fantastic!
John and Trish are super hosts! The place is gorgeous and located feet from the ocean. Everything was seamless and the property is set up beautifully for a tropical retreat! I’d come back in a heartbeat.
Fabulous location in small town close to beaches and great walks. Property was immaculate and exactly as described in the listing and the welcome package from the owner was super helpful. Can only say ‘book’!
The condo was exactly as pictured-beautiful, very clean and great kitchen with all items one might need. Everything in the place was top notch! A fun perk was being able to walk out the sliding glass doors and off the lanai to the waterfront and see some sea turtles. John was very accommodating and easy to get in touch with- would definitely come back again.
Good property, nice unit with everything we needed for cooking. Turtles swimming in front of the property are amazing. Only feedback: pool has very little shade and this part of the island can be quite windy. Easy to get to other parts of the island, very centrally located.
My family and I (3 kids under 9) stayed here for our week-long Maui trip and it was perfect. The view can’t be beat and ground floor location was great. It’s centrally located on the west side of Maui and a quick 20 min to the east side. The unit was very clean and well-appointed - we didn’t want for anything. The owner was quite responsive. We were walking distance to the aquarium and my kids loved the pancakes at the general store - they’re huge! We would absolutely stay here again, it was a wonderful place to come back to after a day experiencing Maui!
We truly enjoyed our stay Maalaea! John and Trish were amazing hosts! The condo had everything we needed and more. It was so nice to be able to grab a beach chair and a cooler, supplied by the hosts, and take a stroll down the road to the beach. The view was nothing short of fabulous! We loved waking up to seeing Haleakalā and all the fascinating sea turtles. We have never seen so many sea turtles before. The pool was also great, so easy to get to and could always get spot. We actually had the pool to ourselves several times. If we are so lucky to come back, we would stay here for sure! Mahalo!
We loved everything about our stay here. Perfect location in walking distance to the harbor- book a snorkel cruise! Just minutes away from amazing restaurants and shops! John is the perfect host- the kitchen is fully stocked and he even had some Maui coffee and Island treats for us upon arrival. You will have your own convenient parking spot just a few feet from the condo, and then right out the back door is the ocean. Just steps away! We had fun watching the turtles and crabs each afternoon and in the morning we would lounge on comfy chairs to see the sunrise. My 11 year old loved the pool too! The beds are super comfortable and the condo stays nice and cool. If this place is an option for your vacation- book it! You won’t regret it. 🌺
We had an amazing time at John's condo! The condo was impeccably clean and had absolutely everything you could possibly need from beach chairs to shampoo! John was also remarkably responsive- we had a quick question about the pool key and he got back to us instantly. He was also super accommodating about letting us check out a little bit later since we had a much later flight. The view of the ocean from the condo and lanai is just absolutely breathtaking. We also loved the slower pace at the condo complex compared to being at one of the big resorts. You can always get a chair at the pool or one of the loungers facing the ocean. Can't recommend this condo or John as a host enough-truly a wonderful experience and wishing we were still in Maui!
My husband and I traveled with our three kids, ages 11, 10 & 4. This condo is truly a hidden gem. The private pool kept the kiddos busy and the ocean view was spectacular, right outside the condo. The turtles were so fun to watch every day! The island cats were amazing also. The aquarium, restaurants, and shops were just up the road, a short walk. We could easily walk to two beaches as well. The condo itself is really what made our trip so relaxing. Our kids loved the bunk beds! The kitchen was amazing, the hosts have thought of everything! The condo itself was beautiful, just like in the pictures. Updated, clean, and great decorating! Lots of little touches from start to finish. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer inside the unit. Well done John! I will also say, everyone in the condo complex was very nice, we really enjoyed our conversations with everyone! Perfect accommodations in Paradise. Super clean, comfortable, with all the necessities and lots of extras. Being on the ground floor with the ocean in your backyard is amazing. It was so nice to have breakfast out on the lanai or just pop out to look at the turtles and breathe in the fresh Island air. The condos location was great for exploring the island and John provided us with an excellent list of restaurants, beaches and adventures. The only negative thing was having to leave when our vacation was over. This is definitely a place I’d recommend to any of my friends visiting Maui in the future.
Not sure what I can say that other reviewers haven't. This place is absolutely amazing. The interior of the unit is immaculate as described. Fully stocked kitchen with everything you need. Beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear all provided as well. The ground floor unit made it so easy to walk out and see the Sea Turtles in the sanctuary and watch for whales (which we saw every day from right outside the unit). Loungers and pool are just steps away, with a full panoramic view of the bay. John provided a long list of restaurant, beaches and tour recommendations which was a big help. We toured the entire island and really felt like this was most convenient location for our "home base". John was great every step of the way. Can't imagine staying anywhere else when we come back!
This is a 5-star property in every way - location, cleanliness, amenities, furnishings. We loved the location in the center of the island, making it convenient to get to everywhere. And we were so happy to not be in the middle of a huge resort area. The harbor area is a short walk away and has shops, restaurants and the best whale watching tours (we can highly recommend PacWhale). We spent every evening on the condo's lanai watching for whales, or walking along the waterfront looking for turtles. The highlight of our whole trip happened one evening when we noticed a splashing disturbance out in the water, which turned out to be two adult humpback whales practicing their pectoral fin slapping! John leaves a great set of binoculars for his guests to use, which gave us a close-up look at these whales having a great time. The humpbacks spend the winter in Maui, December - April, mating one year and giving birth the next. In February-early March, the new calves are fun to observe from a whale-watching tour.
We enjoyed a wonderful 10 day stay with our two university-aged children in February. Highlights:
-Ma'alaea is centrally located for exploring Maui. A much quieter and more relaxing area than many tourist zones.
-Unit is perfectly situated with stunning views and direct ground floor access out onto the lawn and waterfront - absolutely ideal.
-We enjoyed great views of whales and sea turtles right out front every day.
-Very tastefully decorated with some lovely original Maui art.
-Unit is well equipped with complete kitchen, beach-going supplies, snorkelling kits, boogie boards, etc...
-Excellent communications with host from start to finish.
-We highly recommend this VRBO.
Excellent location. We loved sitting on the Lanai and watching the harbour activity as well as the whales spouting in the distance and the little turtle popping his head up near the shore.
The unit was without compare, everything we needed was accommodated. A kitchen a chef would delight cooking in.
The linens and beds were 5 star.
