This beautiful home on the north shore of Kauai is stunning! When you walk in, you can literally see the waves crashing on the shore. The louvered windows keep the tropical breeze flowing through the house, while keeping the bugs out. Plus there are plenty of ceiling and floor fans to boost the breeze when necessary. The water pressure is great. The kitchen is perfectly appointed with necessities like foil and sandwich baggies. The master bedroom bed is close enough to the ocean that you will fall asleep to the sound of the waves. We came away so well rested. We've stayed in Haena probably 8 times over the years, and you can't beat it for fulfilling your rural, private tropical fantasies. We spent a few days just sitting right outside the backyard on the beach and watching the waves and the turtles. The beach is swimmable very close to shore at this time of year. But be cautious because it can get very choppy. The walk to Tunnels - around the point - is a 15-minute walk. We timed it. It is less breezy there with a nicely protected cove for snorkeling. The walk is challenging with the deep, brown sugar sand -- but well worth the effort. We would stay here again many times over! We loved it! I'd recommend to the owners to update the front door lock. It is electronic but took sometimes 5-8 tries to get it to open. It's a little tricky.

We were looking for an alternative to the 'resort' experience for this Kauai trip - specifically a more relaxed week where we didn't feel we were being overcharged, un-charged or pressured to have to 'reserve' chairs, pay for little things, etc. Hale Kahakai was exactly what we wanted and expected. The pictures and descriptions of the property are accurate - it is right on the beach with a beautiful view and even has some beach gear for your use (beach chairs, wind screen, boogie boards). One caution if you are new to north shore Kauai - while ALL the beaches are gorgeous, they are not all swimmable, and you should do some research if you are brining little ones to enjoy splashing in the Ocean. If you are not familiar with Kauai west of Hanalei, also understand there is only one road to Ha'ena, so if there is any road work, you can expect to have 30-60 minute delays - just plan for that, especially when it is time to go back to the airport. Overall, the property is wonderful, clean, comfortable and expertly managed.

Third year to rent this house and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. It's a little slice of heaven in a beautiful part of Kauai. Pack light because all you need is a bathing suit and a good pair of flip flops.

vacation with wife and our 3 kiddosbeautiful location beach right off lanaion downside, almost everything in house is 20 years dated, I have lived on Kauai in past, do not expect premium interior at a beach house on the North Shore, but for the amount of money charged, house needs a significant update

The house was lovely. Lots of room, nicely furnished, good views of the ocean, nice and clean. Quiet location. 3/4 mile walk to snorkel at tunnels. The only downside for the house was trying to sit outside in the afternoon. Quite windy.
