The house is fantastic! Clean and gorgeous! Easy check-in and out. Perfect location and the waterall is breathtaking! Hope to stay a third time!
Everything was perfect! Our host, the neighborhood, the home, and the community couldn’t have been better! We had a lovely vacation and didn’t want to leave. Hopefully we will be back!
Absolutely wonderful overall! The host and cleaning professional went above and beyond for our stay. We have a family member with severe physical contact allergies and they re-washed all of the linens and towels for the room they would be staying in with detergent that wouldn’t cause issues. The view off the back porch is stunning and the home is VERY comfortable and inviting. Only negative is the steep driveway and limited parking but they also allowed full use of the garage to make up for this. Would absolutely stay here again.
Absolutely beautiful location and a great space with an awesome waterfall off of the back deck. Driveway is steep so was a challenge in a big van but it was perfect for our family. 5 stars! Aloha
The view is absolutely incredible. It is so relaxing to sit out on the deck and listen to the rushing water. The house is very well appointed and it is a nice space. There is no a/c and it got warm but they had ample fans and it cooled every night. So worth it for the beautiful and amazing view. We would love to rent again.
This has the most beautiful view ever. The waterfalls and forest from the deck is spectacular. The hosts were also amazing. We were actually there during a tsunami warning and they called and talked us through it and also called the sweet neighbor to come over and give us information as well. All the things you could need in a kitchen and for the beach were there as well. It was clean and check in and out was super easy.
The moment we stepped into the house, we were amazed by the beautiful views of the river, falls, and lush foliage. The house is such a wonderful place to be that two family members decided to skip one of the planned activities so that they could spend more time enjoying the house and its views. Each of the bedrooms is nice and the kitchen is well-appointed. The information folder we were given about the house, restaurant recommendations, etc. was very helpful. We felt very welcome. We wanted to note that the stairs to the second floor (where all the bedrooms are) are steeper than usual. We had no problem with them, but someone with bad knees might find them difficult.
We stayed here July 6-9, 2025 and would stay here again. This home is nestled in an older neighborhood. We were concerned when we noticed there was no air conditioning, nevertheless, it would not be necessary as the nights cool down with a gentle breeze cooling the rooms down to 65 degrees with plenty of fans provided. The water falls in the backyard are fabulous as they are downstream of Rainbow Falls. The lovely covered porches provide a place to sit and enjoy the view. The rooms were large with large windows. The master mattress could be updated as it sags. The room views were beautiful. The coqui frogs sing loudly at night and luckily I brought ear plugs which were needed! They stop singing by morning and the birds begin. It was a great stay. Some amenities such as oil, spices, and condiments were available for our use and Saran Wrap and foil were available making cooking and clean up easier. The home is close to shopping, black sand beaches, Volcano National Park, Rainbow Falls, and restaurants. Ken’s Pancake house was a great place to eat where you could split a meal easily as the cost for a meal averages 24-30. They were happy to bring an extra plate.Management was pleasant to work with and provided places and restaurants to dine at. Thanks again for providing this lovely home.
The house was perfect for our stay. Here for a family reunion, everyone for perfectly with space.
The property is a little rundown, and some things were hard to locate like the cutting boards. The owner needs to warn guests that there is a steep driveway up to the house that comes up suddenly.
The property was gorgeous. My granddaughter told me it might be the coolest place we've ever stayed, she's 20. If you are a bird watcher there is plenty to see. Just a short drive to the main area of Hilo. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Absolutely beautiful! The view is better than it looks online. It’s a series of waterfalls and pools of water and a Forrest of trees … breathtaking!!!
The Waterfall Retreat truly lives up to its name—this place is absolutely beautiful and one of the most relaxing homes we've ever stayed in. I almost did not want to leave the house, but we had graduation activities for my daughter! The constant, soothing sound of the waterfalls/river created the perfect white noise, adding to the peaceful atmosphere from the moment we arrived.Suzanne was excellent to work with and her communication was responsive and prompt. The house was well-stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable, and the sheets were soft and high-quality—just one of many thoughtful touches throughout the home. The layout worked perfectly for our family of six, offering plenty of space to gather together and also spread out when needed. If you're looking for a serene, nature-filled escape that still has all the comforts of home, this is it. We would absolutely stay here again!
The pictures just dont do this place justice. It was amazing!
Everything was great. The waterfall is more beautiful in person than in the pictures. Be aware - getting a Chevy Suburban-size vehicle in and out of the driveway is a challenge.
The waterfall retreat was more like a zen retreat!! Beautiful house, in a beautiful neighborhood, with your own private waterfall right in your back yard!! Gorgeous. One of the days it rained all day, which can happen in Hilo and we all agreed this was the perfect spot to hang out all day.
Very clean, well stocked with all amenities. Beautiful view! Various attractions were easy to get to.
This beautiful home was more than I was expecting! The views were spectacular, and the house clean, and beautifully decorated. My family and I enjoyed every second we were here and couldn’t have found a more perfect place to take our Hilo vacation. The host, Suzy, is also a lovely woman who answered my questions swiftly and provided us with everything we needed to make our time at the ”waterfall retreat” a really special experience. I would definitely recommend this home for anyone looking for a unique and luxurious rental.
Our multi-generational family group stayed here for 3 nights to start off our Big Island vacation. The home is quite comfortable, had all the things we needed and the games and puzzles were and added bonus. We loved having the waterfall for a backdrop and its white noise was lovely to fall asleep to.
Very large and very very well equipped. The location is stunning, private and yet close enough to Hilo to be convenient. I have only two small negatives. Despite otherwise being the most well equipped house (in terms of useful things, from towels, to kitchen gear, BQ, etc.) I've ever stayed in, they don't have non-slip mats in the showers and bath. I hope they rectify this in the future. And perhaps important to some people, like just about every home in Hilo, there is a faint smell of mold. This is an Hawaii thing and very hard to get rid of entirely, but if you're not used to Hawaii, you might find this disconcerting. On the other hand - no bugs!We would stay there again. Heck, if I had the money, I'd buy the place!
Overall, really great and enjoyed all the kitchen amenities. And lovely outdoor living area near the creek and falls. The only thing that may be issues for some families is that all the bedrooms are upstairs. Hauling suitcases up may be problematic for some? And the garage was JUST deep enough for a mini van. Very little clearance in front of back families is that
This property is just lovely. It is perched on the side of a hill overlooking a genuine, flowing waterfall. The bank on the other side of the river is nothing but green tropical plants - we felt like we were in a treehouse. The flowing waterfall provides a lovely background for sleeping, meals and porch sitting. A very short drive to anything you might need in Hilo, easy drive to both the north shore hikes and Volcano National Park. We loved it!
Spacious accommodations, a deck view like no other, and centrally located. My family said that I knocked this one out of the park!
The waterfall view was amazing. Enjoyed my coffee on the deck every morning. Rooms were spacious and plenty of room for the family. No AC, so it was hot during the day, but cool at night with open windows.
Very nice house
What a beautiful place! Clean, well-stocked, spacious and perfect for families! The views of the Wailuku River and Falls are breath-taking! Our host was extremely helpful and accommodating. Hope to stay there again!
The location on the river is jaw droppingly good. It's better than most state overlooks in Hawaii. The house itself needs some improvement though. My wife had to vacuum the house on arrival. Parts of it are really showing their age. The windows in particular. That said, we did enjoy the property. The owners have equipped it well, with everything you need.
Unfortunately it was a short stay but we were overwhelmed by the view of waterfall from the porch. We will definitely be rebooking if we pass thru Hilo in the future.
Overall a fantastic option for us as a group of friends. Four good size bedrooms, lots of communal space. The kitchen was well set up and provided all we needed. Good location, up out of town, but easy to get to and close to other facilities such as a supermarket.
It‘s a great location in a nice neighborhood. During the raining „season“ it could be louder but never got that perfect view! The host was awesome! Mahalo nui!
All questions were answered in a timely manner. The view from the house and decks are gorgeous. The waterfalls and foliage made it feel like a tree house. We only had one day were we really missed having AC. We'd go back.
A little outdated
We enjoyed our stay at this spacious property, which was conveniently located a short drive away from downtown, beaches, botanical gardens, and ziplining. Beds were super comfortable! Property manager was extremely responsive to any needs. Listing states AC however only 1 room actually has a window unit. Regardless, there were fans in every room and windows could be opened, so we were comfortable.
The sound of the water running over rocks the rocks below provides an incredible backdrop for a stay in Hilo. It is Iike having a giant pink noise machine to lull you to sleep each evening. The owner was very responsive and thoughtful (they left a pound of Hawaiian coffee by the coffee maker). Would definitely stay here again!
The house was very nice and clean. The host was great to work with, responded quickly to my texts and even had a nice binder layed out with information about the house and things to do around the area. It was located in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown Hilo. Our whole group would stay there again.
Our stay was great until the morning we were living. I loaded two suitcases in the car and was in the process of loading a few others. When I came back the 2 suitcases were stolen. It was 5:00 AM in the morning and only took less than 10 minutes to happen.
This home was amazing and exactly as described. Mahalo for a relaxing stay at your Beautiful home in Hilo!
A stunning location! Well equipped house. Lovely decor. Incredibly prompt and attentive service when we had a small plumbing issue. The sounds of the jungle and waterfall are your own relaxation soundtrack. And don't mention the beautiful geckos. Highly recommend it!
The house was amazing and we really enjoyed out time listening to the rush of the water. The driveway is steep, but manageable. This house was a great base for our stay in Hilo. We would stay here again in the future.
We loved the waterfall. The house was convenient to everything. We would come here again. The sound on the tv needs fixing.
Our family of 8 (5 adults and 3 kids) thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hilo for New Year's week. Rainbow Falls and Boiling Pots are nearby because it’s the same river flowing through the backyard Sitting on the lanai gave us a private version of those attractions. The secluded spot allowed us to get to other areas of the Big Island, such as Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea, fairly quickly while avoiding the hustle and bustle of a large resort. We were also able to walk into Hilotown within 25 minutes, which made it extremely convenient to grab meals or a shave ice. The only noise at night is the sound of Coqui frogs, which is a great alternative to the urban noises such as car alarms and garbage trucks that typically fill my home. The garage also offered beach towels and coolers, which were helpful when we headed over to the heated pools at Isaac Hale park. We look forward to returning soon.
