The solar electric system at Hale Akua currently consists of 200 solar panels, 12 inverters, and 24 solar batteries. Our founder Lori Grace has invested in this system to prevent unnecessary contributions to climate change. This solar electric system will add another two days of electricity, provided there has been an adequate amount of sunlight charge before an electrical outage. We also have 10 Eco-Flow batteries (3kw electricity per room) which can add two to three days of electricity if needed. Learning to live on limited electricity is a wonderful and necessary education for our current climate situation. We would like for all our guests to learn to work together with our staff in these situations.
Large hotels here on Maui that experience an electrical failure do not provide backup power, nor do they offer refunds. As we do not feel responsible for Hawaiian Electric’s failures, there will be an opportunity for education rather than a refund if we have an outage, and our staff will assist you the best they can.

We loved it! This property is gorgeous, the house is beautiful and we had an amazing time. Kelsey who helped us check in was very kind and welcoming. The only thing I will note, and this was definitely well-advertised in the listing, is that the bugs can be a bit annoying. No fault of the property owners as they do use eco-friendly pest control products, and there were plenty of warnings provided ahead of time, but just personally, the ants were a bit annoying. The geckos were very friendly though. No problems with any other bugs, primarily ants, even in places without any food present. All that being said, the hot tub was lovely, the house is very private, the property is absolutely beautiful, we didn't use the hiking trail but the views of the valley and the waterfall were lovely from the house. Everything was very clean and we had a fantastic time. Thanks so much to Kelsey and the Hale Akua ohana for having us! Mahalo!
Pros: Incredible setting and the grounds are beautiful. Whale watching from the hot tub was probably the highlight of our trip. The pool gets the perfect amount of sun on the nice days. The whole property is very calm and relaxing. The people onsite are incredibly friendly and do not disturb the guests.Cons:The circle bed in the listing photos in incredibly uncomfortable. Getting in and out you or rolling or kneeling on marble to get on a mattress that has seen better decades. We would've slept upstairs but the staircase is not suitable for repeated use. Some of the steps are about 4-5" wide and very steep. Large clump of hair in the hot tub and 3' strand of hair on the bed pillows upon check-in.
This house is nestled inside the beginnings of the road to Hana. One of the most breathtaking places I’ve stayed in my life. Just beware, it is really hard to leave because it’s so beautiful!! The house itself is incredibly unique, there are little treasures everywhere that aren’t even pictured.
Everything you need to rest body and soul
Gem 45 min from airport hidden in cliffs with beautiful view of coast , sunrise and waterfall . It beats multiple destination sightseeing spots on the island !
We had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Waterfall House. The home is more beautiful than pictures could show and the views are absolutely amazing, you could hear the waterfall and even the waves in the distance, right from the deck. At night we'd turn off all the lights in the house, step onto the deck, and just stand in awe of all the stars you can see. Having our own private pool and Jacuzzi was awesome, the kitchen was very well equipped with all updated appliances, and the details in the decor were just stunning. We got fresh fruits from vendors down the road for breakfast each morning, and kept the calming Hawaiian music on the surround sound all day long. The little geckos were adorable entertainment on our lazy days lounging around the house. We are the kind of people who usually only see the sunrise if we're still up from the night before, but we left the curtains open and woke up to magical sunrises every morning (then we closed the curtains and went back to sleep like normal people, haha). We did have issues the first few mornings with ants attracted to the vines around the bed, but the staff was quick to respond. Zara, Leahi, and Tanner were all so friendly and helpful, they gave wonderful suggestions for the area and pleasant conversations, while swiftly handling the issues. Once we got the right spray and traps set out, we didn't have any more troubles with ants the rest of our stay. One thing to be aware of is that there's only a small AC unit in front of the main bed, and the house can get quite hot and humid at times. The cross breeze through the sliding doors was very nice, but luckily we found some powerful little fans in the closet that really helped make the rest of the home more comfortable. A quick jump in the pool or rinse in the outdoor shower never hurt either. The upstairs bedroom and loft were surprisingly cool and made for a nice afternoon nap, but the marble staircase is extremely steep and slick, so I wouldn't recommend sleeping up there at night if you get up to pee a lot, lol. Being our first time to Maui, we were trying to see and do a lot. We enjoyed Cafe Mambo in Paia, swimming at Twin Falls, and had one of the best experiences ever at Mama's Fish House. In the future when we book here (and we will), we'll stay at least 4 nights and plan to not do anything else, take the time to truly enjoy the private, relaxing, romantic retreat this house is. It's really a vacation in itself.
Absolutely paradise!!
Amazing, private and unique property. It was 2nd island stay for our honeymoon adventure thru Hawaii islands and I don't think it could be any better. Felt very welcomed when we first arrived and was pleasantly surprised that property looked and felt even better than pictured. The waterfalls can be seen from back patio. Pool is fantastic, hot tub was mind blowing good and we spend every night in it enjoying champagne. Sunrise can be seen from main bed and is very romantic. Overall structure of the building and rooms is super unique and inviting. It's safe to say we loved it. I Only downside for some it maybe it's remoteness. It's pretty far from everything.. But if you are looking for romantic, remote, secluded, quite, beautiful place that has everything. This is it. Perfect honeymoon spot
We enjoyed it especially stars early morning and the sunrise. Loved the waterfall in the back and enjoyed the privacy. Loved the decor , nice breezes, and comfortable bed. All were perks to our stay.
A unique, private, and stunningly beautiful place to stay.
Only regret is we didn't stay longer but are already thinking of future visits. It rained heavily a couple of nights we were there, but its didn't even matter. The space feels magical and pictures do not do the place justice, truly is like being in paradise with unbelievable views.
