After following our GPS to the property which was easy to find even in the dark we pulled into the covered parking area. The door to the room is inside the garage with a passcode and once you get in the room is to your right, the bathroom is directly ahead, and a keypad protected door to the rest of your house is to the right. You are given a key to lock the door to the room, as well as a pair of flashlights if you need them. The room itself has a high table to eat at, shower across from the door, cabinet with plates, utensils, cups and a kitchenette on top of it including a coffee maker which the host kindly provided guidance on how to get the best cup of coffee out of. There is a guidebook of recommendations as well as more volcano paraphernalia than you could shake a stick at. Regarding the park, I would absolutely stay here if you either love volcanoes or plan to hike - yes you could technically stop by most of the attractions in half a day but even staying in the Kīlauea area and Crater Drive we had a full day in the park, dropped by the morning after and even returned twice more once we were in Hilo, and the convenience of being able to start and end our first day while practically in the park was palpable. My wife did note that the door to the rest of the house and the way the shower is somewhat of an add on did feel a bit to open and exposed to her, As the host has mentioned in other reviews the addition is fully separate from the house, so just keep in mind.
Perfect location minutes from the park! Nice private entrance, convenient water refill amenities, comfortable bed...would highly recommend for anyone wanting to spend some time near Volcano!
Great place just down the road from the National Park. Took 5 minutes or so to get to the main entrance. The unit is part of the main residence, which was quiet, however you could hear the wood creek above you when the residence walks. Like all Hawaii you are subject to the roosters waking you up early but definitely recommend if you need a place to crash VERY close to the park.
The property and all the extras (flashlights, umbrellas, etc.) we're great. Would definitely stay here again!
We went to Volcanoes National Park. Rainbow waterfalls, wakiloa beach , parasailing at kona, dined at on the rocks and went to the southern most bakery in the US.Also attended a meeting at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. We had to drive to everything but worth it........
Amazing place, super lovely stay for a night in Volcano! Great location.
It was convenient and clean. A little bizarre that you had to leave the bedroom and go out in a foyer to use the toilet.
Yes! It was better than just "Good". We didn't need all the provided amenities as it turned out, but it was nice to see and know they were there if needed.
Our stay at this vrbo was perfect. Very short distance to the Volcano National Park. We went in at night to try and get a glimpse of the lava flow. No luck but still did not disappoint.
Amazing stay best experience ever!
Nice and quiet. Located near park entrance. Nice size room clean and confortable. Very attentive to their guests
Joel let us know that morning that an eruption had started. We were able to see it and have a fabulous stay without worrying about rushing back. The condo was great, very clean and as advertised. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others
This place is perfect for a single traveler or a couple looking to explore the volcano!
Pros: super close to Volcanoes NP
It was a perfedtly satisfactory place to stay in a location very convenient to the Volcano National Park. We had no complaints.
I stayed at this property to see the volcano eruption. It was perfect! This apartment has everything— the owner even provides flashlights which was a lifesaver when hiking around the crater rim trail in the dark.. I would stay again if I ever get the chance. Thank you!!
Just 5 miles to park entrance and April Fools day eruption did not disappoint!
The location was fantastic and the room was spotless. Perfect for two travelers.
Perfect spot for us before starting out to VNP! Quiet, with all the little touches that made us super comfy. Our host was quick to answer questions before our trip so we could enjoy ourselves fully.
Great host. Property cute and spotless. Perfect place to stay to visit Volcanoes National Park.
Joel delivered as advertised. Wife and I wanted to take quick trip to see the eruption at Kilauea. The property was about 10 min. from Volcanoes National Park and this fit the bill after some long hours volcano watching.
This place was in a great location if you wanted to visit the Volcano National Park. This was literally a 7 mins drive and if you're interested in playing golf, it was 5 mins away. The unit is attached to the Joel's house so, we had to be mindful of keeping things down (not that we're loud people but wanted to be respectful). There was a microwave, a good size mini fridge, some plastic utensils, cutting knife/board, wine opener, disposable plates and cups! Coffeemaker was available and pods. The heated towel rack was a bonus!!! Joel was super kind and got us some milk and cookies from his neighbor the one morning since we forgot to get some! I would recommend you staying here if you had only a couple of days to explore the area!
This is the perfect spot to stay if you want a bit more time to explore Volcanoes National Park and beat the crowds. Joel was great with communication and recommendations and as he said, we won the volcano lottery when the crater started erupting the morning we arrived!
Stayed here on our short trip to the national park. It was a perfect location and a lovely little place that was easy to locate, yet perfectly quiet. Joel was really communicative and answered all my questions and gave advice on where to visit and the weather conditions. It was a perfect location for the night - thank you!

Joel had great communication with us and the place was nice and close to volcano. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend his place to anyone.
Wonderful little spot right in Volcano. The hosts gave us excellent hiking recommendations. The volcano Winery is walking distance. The bed was comfortable and we were plenty worm enough with the heater. 10/10 would stay here again
Warm and cozy room. Host was helpful and an excellent communicator. Highly recommend!
Was about a 5 minute drive to park, was well outfitted with everything you need after a day hiking. Wonderful shower, and towel heater. Would stay there again.
We spent a few nights here to explore Volcano and Hilo areas after a few days on the Kona coast. The area is at about 4000 ft elevation, so expect cooler temperatures and rain now and then. This property is a very comfortably appointed guest quarters with it's own private entry and covered parking spot within Joel's home. He is such a a welcoming and friendly host, it quickly felt like staying with family! He has thought of all the welcoming touches, from plenty of coffee for the Keurig, cold filtered water in the fridge, wonderful bath products in the shower, extra amenities should you have forgotten anything under the bathroom vanity, and even a photo album with probably every brochure for every attraction in the area. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property and host!
