Property Overview
Spectacular, exhilarating OCEAN VIEWS, throughout open-plan home, from both inside and out, including, from all these areas: the entry hall, the kitchen, dining room, 20-ft tall great room, and from three of the four bedrooms, plus from the lanai's and from the back yard and side yards.
The fourth bedroom overlooks a TRANQUIL GARDEN with water-lily pots, and the front yard, situated on a cul-de-sac.
The home has AIR CONDITIONING and HEAT (and dehumidifier), accommodating furnishings, appliances, 3 bathrooms, kitchen-ware, bedding, linens, Haiku ceiling fans, gas BQ grill, and outdoor heated shower.
Broadband wifi throughout.
Cable TV (3 HDTV's).
Home of the Opening Flower has five bicycles for riding to the Princeville shopping center for supplies or treats, or to nearby beach access locations, or along the Princeville area golf courses, or local Princeville restaurants or pop-up produce markets.
And for beach enjoyment, there is an ample supply of beach gear, including chairs, towels, canopies, coolers, snorkel gear and boogie boards.
BEDROOM #1, the largest room, master bedroom, has an en suite bathroom, a Cal-king bed, end tables, large armchair recliner, chaise lounge, large desk with comfy office chair, a dresser, HDTV, and spectacular ocean views from throughout the room.
BEDROOM #2, a second master bedroom, which is the only upstairs area in the home, has an en suite bathroom, a Cal-king bed, a dresser, chair, HDTV, private lanai/balcony, great ocean views and a mountain view.
BEDROOM #3, has an Eastern-king bed, end tables, small desk with comfy chair, and opens to the main floor lanai, with vivid ocean views from inside throughout the room, and from the adjoining lanai.
BEDROOM #4, has an Eastern-king bed, end tables, chair, and overlooks a tranquil garden with water-lily pots. In lieu of a dresser, a portion of the closet has convenient shelving.
Bedrooms #3 and #4 share a hall bathroom.
All of the bedrooms have well-accommodating tiled closets, and are equipped with luggage rack(s).
The laundry hall has, in addition to a large washer and dryer, a handy, tidy. folding / hanging, and bin area.
The great room (Living area) is equipped with a full-motion curved 65" 4K smart TV with DVR, and a variety of board games.
The ocean breezes and Haiku ceiling fans throughout, keep the home fresh and airy.
Air conditioning / heating was recently installed. Separate (split-system AC/heat) units are mounted to the upper wall in each of the bedrooms, and in the living area. These units are individually controlled. Thus, you can select your preference of whether or not to utilize air conditioning or heat within each particular room, and can individually select the desired temperature setting, for each room. In addition to their cooling benefit, these A/C units also have a heat setting, for warmth and comfort on those occasionally cooler days or nights when the air temperature dips; ,and a dry setting to simply reduce humidity.
*In case you are considering ACCESSIBILITY* for any persons in your group, the entry level, Level 1, may be suitable for your requirements. These are the levels / layout of Home of the Opening Flower:
LEVEL 1. The driveway, the sidewalk leading to the house, and the front porch area, as well as front lawn, are all at ground level. There is a small step-up totaling about 2 or 3 inches, from the ground level front porch, thru the front door of the home, into the entry hall. The front entry hall, kitchen and dining areas, and Bedroom #4 - which overlooks the front gardens and yard, plus the hall bathroom, are all on the same entry level. The shower in the hall bathroom has a built-in corner bench (as do the other bathrooms). The step-over from hall bathroom floor, into the shower, is about six inches. The entry hall, and all of the areas that adjoin it, except for the fourth bedroom, do have an ocean view. Presently, dining chairs and a bench are situated on the entry level. One or more larger, comfortable chairs could easily be set on the entry level to accommodate anyone in your group who would require or prefer avoiding stairs, and they would not feel isolated from the rest of your group. The television in the living / great room is well visible from the dining area, and rotatable. The kitchen, front entry hall and front porch, have a cheerful, expansive view of front gardens and yard.
LEVEL 2. The large ocean-view living / great room, main-level lanai, main-level ocean-view bedroom, and main-level ocean-view master bedroom and ensuite master bathroom, and the laundry hall, are about three steps down from the entry hall and its adjoining areas.
The garage is about two steps down from a garage entry hallway near the dining area.
LEVEL 3. The upstairs ocean-view bedroom and its ensuite bathroom, and lanai, are the only upstairs areas.
All of the living areas (entry hall, kitchen, dining, great room), as well as three of the bedrooms, have superb ocean and greenery and skyward views.
The fourth bedroom has a view of the front garden and yard. From every area of the home, and in all directions, your gaze takes in continually varying colors and abundant rainbows.
The home is on a bluff, set back from, and overlooking the ocean, on a large private property, especially broadening toward the back, with ample front, back and side yards, and is adjacent to an extensive green space which leads to a stream.
The colors of the water, sky, and land are truly uplifting and inspiring. In their migratory seasons, you can see whales spout, breach, and teach their young, and Laysan Albatross birds as they visit their nesting grounds.
Home of the Opening Flower (Hale Makalapua; Blossom Forth) is situated on a cul de sac, in a lovely, very walkable and bike-able residential neighborhood, within the resort community of Princeville, with amenities nearby; a pleasant spot to discover and enjoy the beauty, serenity, vitality, and aloha of Kauai.
A 10 minute stroll from the property takes you to a trail leading to a secluded beach.

Great house for our family vacation. Plenty of room, with a well-stocked kitchen and one of the best selections of beach gear we have seen in a rental.
Great space for time with friends and family. We loved the big common area, well appointed kitchen, garage full of amenities, and comfortable beds. Oh and of course the exceptional view! This was a wonderful location for taking in the north side of Kauai. And comfortable for evenings at home after busy days out and about.

Beautiful home with 4 large bedrooms so no crowding when the whole family comes! Kitchen was FULLY stocked with everything you could possibly need. Beach gear was overflowing with options, many chairs, 2 canopies, 6 bikes and helmets, boogie boards, games and puzzles in case of a rainy day inside.Only drawback was internet was a little slow, but who goes to paradise to play on the internet?
We had 8 guests as our family stayed, and the property was just perfect. We had two rentalCars that fit easily in the driveway without using the garage- which was nice because the garage was fully stocked with all our day trip needs. Snorkeling gear, boogie boards, camp chairs and even a cooler gave us so many options. Windows along the back of the house over look the side of the gorgeous bay of Sealodge beach. There were helpful maps and guide books around and even binoculars to keep your eye out for anything interesting in the ocean.Beds were all comfortable and we were so glad to find a house to accommodate 4 couples. We had to reach out to the owner and he replied nicely, even stopping by on our last day to make sure we had all our questions answered. It was a lovely stay.
This home has a fantastic location and beautiful views. It’s stocked with everything you could want for a day at the beach - chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling gear, boogie boards and bicycles. It was the perfect launch point for all of our activities and such a comfortable place to return to each night to enjoy the stunning scenery.
This house was great for our family vacation! The house has everything we needed and more! Great view and close to shops in Princeville. Kitchen is very well equipped and lots of beach gear the owner allows you to use. Overall a wonderful time!

Location and view was great. Lovely to wake up to each morning. Nice neighborhood too. We had quite a bit of rain when we were there so couldn’t take advantage of the patio as often since it was not covered. Can’t control that but I would look for a place with a covered patio next time. FYI there is a very persistent rooster in the yard somewhere so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. No complaints but just a warning!Was overall impressed with the quality of the kitchen gear. We’ve stayed at several places and this had some of the better supplies than we’ve seen…perfect, no, but I was happy with it since we cooked every day.Beach gear was great to have! Chairs, towels, snorkel, cooler, etc. Nice to not need to rent stuff!Beds were pretty comfortable but weird thing was there was no top sheet on the bed. There was one in the closet that we put on ourselves but I’d say this was kinda strange as I know most places don’t wash comforters every time…maybe they do there but regardless a top sheet should be standard.Also strange the lack of wash clothes. One bathroom had some but others did not and there also wasn’t anything to use in the kitchen so I ended up using a towel as a wash cloth.FYI does not come with basic toiletries (shampoo, conditioner). Not a big deal but stood out compared to others we’ve stayed at.I will probably look for a different place to stay on our next visit but wouldn’t be opposed to it either. Just be aware of the couple things I mentioned.
Lots of room to spread out for our two families. Wonderful views. We brought our own snorkel gear but were excited to have extra gear. We also used the boogie boards and beach chairs every day. The bikes were a bit meh - hard to pedal. Bring your own bath soap and shampoo/conditioner. All in all a relaxing stay and we would return.
We came for a week of fun and bonding with family and friends. Spent most of our time on the lanai watching whales and rainbows. Loved our time at the house and will be back!

The house was exactly as described and everything was perfect. It is in a great location, was very clean, had a garage full of bikes and beach equipment and the view out the back is mesmerizing. We had a great stay and Thames was very helpful.
This house was amazing and perfect for the amount of people we had with us. It was a wonderful place to stay for Christmas. It had just about everything we needed. If you have little toddlers (we had our 19 month old) then you might want to bring utensils. We couldn’t find any, but that was not a big deal. Chickens in the yard behind was fun too! Overall the property was pretty clean but could have probably gone for a serious deep clean of everything.
The property/house was perfect! Everything you need for your stay is on the property/house. If we ever have a larger group traveling with us again this property would be my first choice. Thank you so much for making our vacation a special one it was top notch!
Our family had a wonderful vacation in Princeville and Hanalei while staying at Home of the opening flower. The property sits at the end of a culdesac and backs up to open space with direct views of the ocean. We spent many evenings sitting on the deck watching the sunset and then gazing at the stars. My wife would wake up early and sit on the deck drinking her coffee, reading her book and listening to the birds. It was so quiet and peaceful and private. The house itself was comfortable with large, spacious rooms. The kitchen had everything needed to cook our meals and the grill was an added bonus. There were plenty of beach accessories and we spent every day at the beach either at Anini, Hanalei or Ke'e. Communication with the owner/property manager was direct and straight forward and we had no issues during our stay. We will definitely be back!
Long-time fan of Princeville and found this awesome home! We loved this home and the ability to spread out or hang out together in the living room. We would surely return!
This house is well-maintained and very clean. We all appreciated the level of cleanliness as well as the amount of complimentary items to use throughout the house. There was plenty of bath and beach towels for all 8 of us. There was also numerous snorkels, fins, goggles, bikes, boogie boards, and more fun items to use in the garage. The property manager was kind and easy to reach. The only caveat was the living room ac did not work. We specifically picked this rental for the ac because tropical climates can be quite humid and unforgiving. We were informed the night before that they were trying to get parts to fix it, but for the duration of our week stay it remained broken. Thankfully, there were numerous fans we could use to manage the heat. But it would have been nice to give us a bigger heads up and overall really try to prioritize the functionality of amenities. The bedroom acs did work, so that was fortunate. Overall, we would recommend this rental and would re-book with them in the future.

We had a great stay! The house was clean and was a nice respite after a long day exploring Kauai. We really enjoyed the view off the balcony and having our coffee there in the morning. The beds were all comfortable and we slept great. The garage was stocked with beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, a cooler, etc. Oh, and the outdoor shower was lovely after a day at the beach. It was nice rinsing off all the sand to keep from tracking it into the house. The property manager was great working through an issue we had and was very easy to get in contact with. We would definitely stay again!
The house was perfect for our needs. It was well equipped with all of the amenities. The garage was stocked with plenty of beach chairs, snorkeling gear and bicycles so we save money from not having to rent these items. Beautiful views of the ocean and for watch the sunset. Also close to the supermarket and beautiful beaches. Only issue we had was the upstairs shower was not usable until halfway through our stay but the property manager was able to get it fixed.
We loved spending this past week in this BEAUTIFUL home in Princeville!! The house is even better than some of the pictures! The kitchen was very well stocked. We loved enjoying family meals at the large dining room table as well as on the lovely lanai! The ocean view from the lanai was stunning! We loved the beautiful landscaping of the yard as well. The bedrooms were very comfortable and we made ourselves at home! I loved waking up in the morning and looking out the window at the ocean! The full washer and dryer were a great asset after beach and hiking days! (as was the outside warm shower!) They had a great assortment of bikes, boogie boards, snorkle gear, beach chairs, beach towels and shade beach canapies in the garage for our use! Thames was very responsive to our questions and shared his recommendations for north shore activities! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!! We had an unforgetable trip with our family! We would love to stay there again!!
I live on Kauai and when family comes, we usually rent a house for part of their time here. I’ve stayed in many vacation rentals on Kauai and this one is great. Great location, big and spacious, very well stocked and beautiful views! Love this place and will definitely try and rent again.
This was a great place to stay for our family of 8. It was a great location, great house and it matched the description of the property. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Great views of the ocean. The neighborhood was very quiet. We had access to beach chairs and bikes. The kitchen was well stocked. The communication with the property managers was quick on questions. Each member of our family enjoyed this home.
Oh my goodness - the photos don't do this property justice. It is heavenly! Views are amazing, plenty of room for everyone, comfortable beds, and well stocked - we had everything we needed and more! Loved it!
We had an excellent holiday due to our stay at Hale Makalapua. The house was in a great location for walks to the beach, enjoying views of the ocean where we could see what’s from the deck and the Kauai’s verdant landscape. The neighborhood was quiet and just a short drive for groceries and eating out. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped for actually (!!) cooking meals. It felt very much like the owners actually use the home themselves, and as such it’s stocked with quality items- towels, glassware, snorkel gear, bikes etc. This was one of the best rentals we’ve had in a long time. The property managers were very responsive to questions and requests.

Loved the location and beauty of this amazing home. Three families plus granddaughter had wonderful space, views, recreational equipment. The kitchen was completely outfitted which was great as the local restaurants were swamped. Lovely, lovely stay!
It is located in Princeville which is about an hour away from the airport and most of the activities are closer to the airport. But, their location is much better if you want a more peaceful vacation. The house has beautiful views and located in a nice residential neighborhood.
