Such a wonderful place that was more than accommodating! Beautiful fresh fruit trees on the property too! My wife and I took our 2 younger boys and stayed here for 4 days. It was amazing! The house and the host were very accommodating and they even added some personal touches to your stay! We'll definitely be back soon!
There were 2 tv's and a few movies to watch. Some books for reading as well.
The property was amazing. The house was very clean and well stocked. The location was perfect. Sadly we had to cut our stay short but the host was very quick to respond and very easy to work with.
Matt provides an excellent stay! There was absolutely nothing that was lacking. Everything has been so well thought out. Mango was one of the best hostess that greeted us everyday. We will definitely be back to the Rainforest Cottage!
Absolutely beautiful place to stay, very private and loved the outdoor shower. We would return again.
The entire property is ideal for a tropical vacation. Not necessarily a Hawaii vacation. It was about 45 min from Kilauea, an hour from a swimmable beach, 5 minutes from Fissure 8 (private property in spots), and 25 min from the ocean. The worst part of the house was Kilauea didn’t erupt! I don’t blame Matt but I think he could’ve done something to help it erupt. All pictures were taken within 45 min of the house. One thing I didn’t take pictures of: the fruit trees! The strawberry guava tree is right in front of the house and they were so good! I ate some every morning for breakfast. Matt has supplies for the house, for the beach, for everything. It’s like going to your family’s house where they know everything to do so they prepare for it vs a hotel. Last but not least…the greatest treasure of the house, Mango!
First Madame Mango (cat) is a great ambassador for the property. From the first day, she would greet us upon arrival. The instructions Matt gave us led us right to the property. Grounds - It was quiet, very green, beautiful grounds and a cacophony of birds singing us to sleep at night. We were able to pick and eat some of the fruit on the property. Very peaceful walking the grounds and taking pictures. House - The bedrooms were very comfortable and clean. Loved sitting on the patio at night with of course Mango’s company. The outdoor shower was so great! Just a beautiful place. Host - Matt was very responsive and we literally lacked for nothing while we were there. All in all i would certainly stay there again.
What a wonderful jungle escape! We had a great time at the rainforest cottage! Everything we needed was there! It is so secluded and the outdoor shower is unbelievable! Everything was clean and neatly organized and we felt right at home. We so enjoyed Mango the cat. He is so sweet and lovable, and just a joy to be around. Thank you so much for letting us partake of your fruit trees and your property. The 3 nights we were there were just wonderful. I can’t say enough. You will not be disappointed if you rent this cottage for your stay on the big island. A
We very much enjoyed the comfort of the Rain Forest Cottage during our week of exploring the island. The home had everything we needed for preparing most of our meals at the cottage. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed. Many resources about the area and the island were available as well. We enjoyed walking the property and enjoying the beautiful foliage and trees - wish more of the fruits would have been ready to pick, but we quite enjoyed fresh lemons. We also appreciated the outdoor shower, allowing views of nature and avoiding humidity in the house. Would definitely stay here again!
Stayed here for a week in August, family of four from WA state. This is an awesome property and great experience staying on the big island’s east side!!!Matt the property manager was great to deal with and everything with the house and property was quite enjoyable. The house has everything you need, and the outdoor shower is amazing. Thanks again Matt, it was a pleasure!!
Our stay was amazing! Nice, quiet and clean house. Mango the cat was awesome! Had fun looking for frogs at night.
Overall I really liked and would recommend this rental. It was perfect for our family of four. Kids stayed in one bedroom and us in the other. We are used to a smaller house and one bath, so none of that was an issue. The outdoor shower was utilized every night and was a great experience. My fault for not realizing there wasn't AC but you do not need it and I'm glad we didn't have it. The frogs and nightly rains and island breezes were amazing. I didn't think I've slept better in my life. Beds and pillows are so comfy, I wrote Matt after we left and ordered the same pillows before we got home. Downsides are that the place needs slight updates, IMO. Overall it is a nice place and I would stay again; but you can tell that maintenance gets delayed slightly due to our of state ownership, probably. And be prepared to drive 35 min minimum to get to Hilo. More depending on day and time. The price is right though, and Matt has everything you need. I haven't stayed at a better stocked VRBO yet. If you are a coffee lover though, bring your own or buy the good stuff from a local place when you get to the Big Island.
We enjoyed this home so much and we were sad to leave. When we first saw the place from the outside we were skeptical, but as soon as we went inside we were very pleased. It is so clean, decorated beautifully and had everything we would need. A quiet little paradise. We loved sitting out on the porch in nature. A sweet little cat would join us. We will recommend this to our friends. paradise.
Was a great place and all we expected.
The grounds needed a little cleaning up, mowing.
Matt , we thank you for your hospitality. We had a wonderful stay in your loving furnished and well equipped rainforest cottage. Mango the cat makes our stay additional funny. We would love to come back on our next stay on Big Island.
It’s a great home in the jungle .I’ve rented it a couple times now and each time was perfect for what I needed .
Had an “erupting”experience. Spent time in National Park and saw quite a fireworks display right from Volcano House overlook Pāhoa met all of our dining needs and Uncle Robert’s was as advertised. Will stay again.
Nice quiet area. Enjoyed the orange and lemon trees. Birds, frogs and bugs were quite noisy but could barely be heard when the house was closed up. A gallon pitcher, funnel and juicer would be helpful.
Wonderful accomodations. 5***. Perfect location to see everything. Thank you.
We loved this property! Very clean and well equipped with everything you can think of. Nicely situated to travel around the Island. Beautiful setting with fresh fruit from the trees on site. Comfortable beds. We would definitely book this property again!
It was beautiful, peaceful. I enjoyed the nature sounds. I loved Mango, the cat. It was comfortable and had everything we needed. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
This was our second time renting the Rainforest house, we love the location. Was nice to see Mango the cat. Cant wait to stay there again next year.
Own vacant land in this subdivision and wanted to see what it was like here. Enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider this rental again.
Great location for what we had planned while on the East side of the Island. Not too far to stores and to the ocean to watch the waves. The cottage was well equipped and worked well for us. We loved the outdoor shower!! The host provided clear instructions and was easy to communicate with.
Great area, quiet. Beautiful property. Would definitely recommend.
Clean, quiet, private, relaxing.
Driving from airport to the Leilani estates had me a bit worried as it is not the most attractive area in between. However, once at the gate it felt like entering paradise. We were greeted by a lush and tropical setting and the nicely decorated house had everything one can hope for (no dishwasher). No rooster noises while we were there, but plenty of birds and at night frogs, which I found absolutely charming and melodious. The homeowner even provided earplugs, I guess in case one might be bothered by the beautiful nature sounds. Definitely not us. Unfortunately, no sandy beaches in walking distance or close by. The closest and easily accessible we found was in Hilo....or maybe we missed some? All in all we had a great time at the Rainforest retreat and can only recommend it to all fauna and flora lovers.
Beautiful property in secluded area. Comfort beds. Everything needed for a peaceful stay. Host was helpful and all was as listed. Would come again
I absolutely love this home. Its my second stay here. The property is stunning, quiet and peaceful. I brought my 68 year old mom for her first visit to Hawaii. This place was perfect for us to connect, relax and enjoy the incredible beauty of Hawaii together. My mom had such a great experience.
Everything was perfect. Really clean and beautiful wooden furnishings, all in a comfortable spacious cottage. Well stocked. Hosts communicated promptly. Would absolutely stay here again.
We can just recommend staying there, all was perfect. Nice house, tropical garden and all what you need available.
We had a fantastic stay at the Rainforest Cottage. The property was extremely clean and very private. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed and there was a large supply of items for use on day excursions (coolers, snorkeling gear, etc). The location was convenient to explore Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and the Hilo area. Thank you Matt for sharing your slice of paradise with us!
We had a fantastic stay! The house is perfectly equipped and has lots of space in and around it. Nothing to complain about. We enjoyed the silence and beautiful garden after our stay in Waikiki and our kids loved to play with the cat Mango, which lives outdoor. 100% recommendation.
We really enjoyed the rainforest retreat. We had a lot of rain so didnt get to enjoy the outside as much as we would have liked. House had all of the amenities you would ever need. Only complaint is the center cushion in the couch was broken, but there were 2 other comfortable chairs to sit in.
This property was a lovely surprise! Quaint and simple but it has everything you need for a rainforest experience. The sounds of the frogs and the birds were amazing as you fell asleep and woke up. 5 stars all the way!
Hawaiian rain forest experience.
The bed was comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and even had good coffee, olive oil and salt.
This cottage was a tropical paradise for our stay on Hilo side of Puna Island. We enjoyed its well equipped kitchen - spice rack, coffee maker, blender…- nice decor rooms, especially the lush green front / backyard, and sounds of frogs at nights, rain drops on the roof…No AC but with open windows in the evening the temp cool down, comfortable. There was evening local farmer market near by too in case you miss anything from Hilo one. The Malama market got all food items we needed during the stay. Note: The market just moved into a new location not in Subway corner.
Excellent stay! Clear check-in instructions from the host, the house was extremely clean - from bedsheets to bath towels to kitchen sink. All the drawers in the kitchen were labeled, super organized. The host provided suggestions for local fav eats, hiking trials, and tourist attractions which we found very useful. It’s a hidden gem! Highly recommend.
