Other things to note
The 20 acre retreat is within the Puna Forest Reserve and our grounds are surrounded by rainforest that is part of the retreat. Steam vents developed on the property from recent eruption and produce clean steam from boiling groundwater. Volcanic heated hot spring is available for guests and it is relaxing to lay on the hot ground. Hawaiian Natives own the non-private property within the reserve to protect the Native Ohia forest that is sacred to them. The reserve is endangered species habitat for the Endangered Hawaiian Owl, Hawk, and Bat. While these species are otherwise very rare they are often seen at the retreat. Researchers continue to identify new species and there is ongoing collaboration to control invasives.
The Ohia Forest has giant ferns, diverse species of orchids, epiphytic plants, strawberry guava, geckos, praying mantis and songbirds. The rainforest is very dense and so we ask guests to remain on the grounds or trail for their safety unless we discuss the specific hazards. The retreat property surrounding the grounds feature many skylights into lava tubes as well as lava trees and caves. The Puna Rainforest is invigorating to see, taste, hear and feel.

Very down to earth simple cabin. I loved its cleanliness and simplicity. The geo thermal heated tubs with rainwater were very enjoyable and Inreally enjoyed the steam vent experience. We felt very grounded and want to return.
This property is beautiful; the grounds, gardens, steam vent trail and thermal hot tubs are so well maintained and unique. The bungalow has everything you need to take advantage of the local fish and food and stay in, but also close enough to Pahoa to go out. Located in a beautiful and remote part of the island that is very worth exploring! Mahalo
Wow, what a unique property and we were so happy that we found this true gem. Jackie has an amazing property and she made us feel so welcome throughout our entire stay to explore and enjoy the land. We loved being able to pick fresh fruit off the trees, walking the steam vents trail and exploring and soaking in the natural hot tubs. The cottage was so cozy and comfortable. It was stocked with everything we needed, but we still felt close to nature. Honestly, one of the most enjoyable stays we've ever had and we can't wait to come back. Jackie has curated a truly exceptional place and we are happy she shared it with us!
Note that the cottages are near each other and sound travels but other than that excellent! This is a beautiful and tranquil location. Check the book to see the layout of what's available. Very clean!
