Property Overview

Pali Hale is your epic oceanfront "home in Hawaii". Pronounced “pah-lee hah-leh”, which in Hawaiian means “Cliff House”, it is the ideal center for all your Island adventures or just relaxing in paradise with breathtaking 180 degree ocean views and sight and sounds of crashing waves in front of you. Just 18mi from Hilo. Two large oceanfront master suites, two spacious oceanfront living rooms & views from every corner of the house. Did we mention the views?

Pali Hale is one of the most popular and recommended Vacation Rentals on the Hawai'i coast. Many of our guests return year after year to Pali Hale, their own oceanfront "home away from home in Hawaii".

The House
Three bedrooms and three and half baths with two separate oceanfront master suites each with their own private bath offer spectacular ocean views and lanai access. Both master bedrooms and the garden bedroom also have new "Tempur-pedic" breeze cool gel-style mattresses for your comfort during your stay. A spacious 2nd family room also offers ocean views, a queen futon, and lanai access with an adjoining full bathroom which is shared by the 3rd bedroom which offers a queen bed with garden views and ocean peeks through the living area. A large kitchen with new modern appliances and a full laundry room provide all the conveniences of home right on your own oceanfront oasis. See and hear the ocean waves crashing against the famous Puna lava cliffs, from every corner of the house.

300mbps WIFI Internet access, 300 channels HD TV, Hi-def movies, and house phone with unlimited United States calling are all included with your stay.

One of the best features to look for in oceanfront living is oceanfront sleeping accommodations, listening to the sound of the waves and waking to spectacular sunrises in the mornings. Not all oceanfront vacation homes have even a single oceanfront bedroom. But Pali Hale offers two spacious oceanfront master bedrooms plus an oceanfront family room with sleeping accommodations. Because Pali Hale uniquely offers multiple oceanfront sleeping accommodations, it is ideal for families, couples, multi-couple, and corporate getaways. But unlike many other properties, at Pali Hale everyone can enjoy the views and experience!

The Nature
You may see and hear whales in front of the house during whale season from November thru May. Spinner dolphins and green turtles (Honu) can be spotted in the surf in front of the house year round. We have a rare Nene family who typically fly in and stroll around the yard each day (our Nene family are currently on vacation, but you are likely to see others around the neighborhood each day). We have geckos around the property who love to come out and sun and Coqui rainforest tree frogs who love to sing at night providing the perfect tropical backdrop against the sound of crashing waves.

Guest Assistance
Pali Hale is our treasured 2nd home in paradise and we are excited to share it with you and hope it makes your stay on the Big Island extra special. Bo and I are available by phone, text, and email for questions, island advice, and help. Our caretaker lives close by and is also available for hire to help you book activities or tour the island.

We also provide you with island and puna area guides with our personal recommendations to island activities and local dining and shopping. You don't have to worry about finding a good place to eat :)

Payment schedule option: We are able to accept bookings for your stay in 2 or 3 payments upon request.

Note: If you would like multi-payment option, do not instant book, instead please put in a booking inquiry and let us know you would like 2 or 3 payments, and we will adjust the payment schedule before we approve the booking inquiry.

The neighborhood
Activities at Pali Hale include - spectacular gorgeous sunrises, whale watching (during season typically end of Nov thru end of April - peak is Jan/Feb/Mar), green turtles and dolphin spotting, cliff front fishing (caution and care must be taken near cliff edges), and just relaxing the days away on either of the two lanais.

The host is outstanding! The house is on a cliff overlooking the ocean with the waves right below. We’ve returned many times, and consider it one of our favorite places to stay.

Beautiful, wonderful, amazing stay on the lava cliffs. House had everything we needed - many many appliances, common spices, coffee (coffee, pods and filters), welcome snacks, beach chairs, plentiful beach towels, snorkel gear, cooler, etc. Lania views were priceless. Host went above and beyond to help us get where we needed to go when we needed to go for viewing of the active volcano. Sea turtles, dolphins and nenes did not disappoint. Convenient location for a ton of fun activities on the Hilo side of the island. Don’t hesitate. It’s truly wonderful!

Beautiful home, in a wonderful neighborhood with lots of charm. We enjoyed being right on the water and the sounds of the waves hitting the rocks…very peaceful. The house is quite large & could easily accommodate a family/group of 10. There were only 2 of us, but the host was very gracious and left a wonderful treat basket to greet us too! My biggest struggle was no AC…although there were lots of fans, but I get overheated easily. It’s a small fix to add AC to at least the bedrooms and problem solved. Overall, we definitely enjoyed our stay, made great memories, and we’d love to go back!

Beautiful property, beautiful house, beautiful location! The house had many amenities that helped make our stay enjoyable including fishing rods, hiking poles, beach towels. A lot of time and love was put into this rental house, making it feel like a home for our stay. The waves crashing on the black cliffs right out the back door made sitting on the patio for morning coffee feel luxurious and peaceful. The owner, Mike, was great at communicating and had many helpful tips for things to do in the area, including letting us know of current volcano eruption. We hope to come back and stay again!

Mike and Bo's home is a perfect spot for tourists who don't want to feel like tourists. It's tucked in the back of a residential neighborhood on the non-touristy side of the Big Island. Many of the neighbors take strolls early in the morning and late in the evening so if you want to get to know more about the area, these chance encounters are a great way. All the homes that line the cliffs are beautiful, and if sunrise views over the Pacific are your thing, you've got them. The house is comfortable and well-stocked, and with 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths on two levels, it can readily accommodate families. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes! The east side of the island is rainy, but the rain tends to come in short showers, often very early in the morning. This side of the island isn't beachy like the other side, but the lush foliage gives it a tropical look and feel the more desert-like sunset side lacks.

I can’t say enough about how terrific this property and the whole experience of staying there was. Mike texted with us and answered every question—he even contacted us to suggest we go see the eruption at Volcanoes National Park. He provided all sorts of great information about the area. It’s difficult to leave the gorgeous view from the upstairs deck, though! We saw whales spouting and dolphins swimming by. And the bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in! If we could, we’d return every year.

Beautiful location. The faint sound of surf pounding on the rocks was such a wondeful soundscape to our time here. Very welcoming hosts, great facilities, terrific communication. Convenient washer and dryer. Could not have asked for a better 1st impression of Hawai'i! You will not regret booking this location.

Beautiful home right on the Oceanside cliffs. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood approx 30 min SE from Hilo and conveniently located near Volcano National Park. Comfortable amenities and we were welcomed with a generous snack basket and Hawaiian music.

We stayed here from July 12-16 and it was a wonderful home. We were welcomed by beautiful Hawaiian music playing softly in the background and a fabulous basket of goodies. The house was very clean and had all the extras you need. We were able to enjoy breakfast on the veranda and watch the waves crash on the cliffs. The views were spectacular. The host was very responsive and always kind. We loved that they had boogie boards, beach towels and even fishing poles! Definitely recommend this home!

This home was so amazing! We loved having the option of 2 master bedrooms, so us adults chose the upper level master (wow, the view!) and we gave our 13 year old the lower master (which was still AMAZING)! The cliffs here were so magical and powerful. It was a sight to see, and the sound of the waves upon the cliffside was booming at times! The home was so fun and comfortable! We had so many amentities and the host was very responsive and friendly!

Beautiful home situated in the ideal location. It was such a nice touch to be welcomed with Hawaiian music playing. We loved every minute of the sound of the ocean, watching the crash of the waves. Our wedding ceremony was perfect -- on the lava rock with the waves splashing -- truly spectacular and unforgettable. Hated to say good-bye. Until the next time.

We love this house, and have been returning to it for many years. The sunrises while sitting on the lanai having coffee in the morning are spectacular. The kitchen is fully appointed, and the great room with vaulted ceiling is welcoming. A wonderful place to have as a base while enjoying activities on the Big Island.

We so enjoyed this spacious home and the incredible views. There were only two of us but it would be ideal for 2 or 3 couples. The hosts have readily available an abundance of beach supplies, books and games, binoculars, and outdoor seating. This was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the setting.
