Property Overview

Ohia Cottage is a well-appointed guest house on a secluded private farm in the heart of Kona s coffee belt.

How amazing would it be to wake up and smell the coffee in Hawaii?! Our cottage is a perfect setting to host honeymooners celebrating their love or simply hosting a family of 3 that would love a secluded getaway in the tropics! The cottage is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath that comfortably sleeps a total of 3 guests. It is furnished with a Queen bed in the master bedroom and a small double bed in the guest bedroom. My favorite feature is our wrap-around lanai with distant ocean and garden views.

Located near South Kona s best beaches, Honaunau and the National Park to your left and Kee i Beach, Manini Beach, and Kealakekua Bay to your right. Choose your direction and in 10 minutes enjoy cultural activities, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and sun. A complimentary gift of local farm produce and coffee will be included in your stay and special fresh farm eggs will surprise from our hens on your doorstep at times. 3 people max! may be able to sleep a toddler if sleeping in a pack-n-play or on the bed with parents in the master bedroom.

Some things you should know prior to staying in Hawaii:
The Big Island is not to be missed, so to help make your Hawaiian dreams a reality, we have assembled all the things you may need to know about staying here in Hawaii! Curious about places to visit or things to do? Ask us about our recommendations list! . The Big Island of Hawaii seems determined to break the norm; the stereotype of the average tropical island, that is. Here you ll find the ongoing battle between green forests, black lava fields, the ocean, the rain, and sunny days almost incomprehensible; the diversity is simply stunning. With that being said from time to time insects can be present outdoors and sometimes make their way indoors due to our tropical climate here in Hawaii. We share this information with you folks because we understand insects can be something to be fearful about or can be somewhat of a nuisance to some individuals. We would like to rest assured that we do schedule pest control services in our very tight schedule do the maximum recommended to not harm people in the house/Condo which is once a month), but it s one of the few cons of tropical weather. Please know we go above and beyond for all of our guests and make sure to provide standard maintenance for extra comfort and an enjoyable time when staying with us here in Hawaii.

Great location near several snorkeling spots, private and quiet (except for the geckos and frogs!). Bed was super comfortable! We really enjoyed the fresh fruit growing in the yard; grapefruit, lemons, starfruit... delicious!

Well maintained, clean, and high end for the price. We would stay here again and again. 5/5 no notes. Give Kiko some love when you see him.

My wife and I spent 7 days on the big island. The cottage was just the right size for comfort. The kitchen is well equipped and plenty of options for coffee brewing as well.

This was the most beautiful retreat like location it literally is 10 times better than it appears in the posting. This home is decorated with love and attention. The property is secluded safe and beyond words. We absolutely looked forward to coming home in the evening to hear the frogs to nap in the afternoon, hearing the chickens, and to wake to the rooster Keiko was an added bonus as the most lovable dog on the island. Due to line maintenance we did return home to no power one evening. The host was responsive within minutes. We lit candles and enjoyed the frogs until power was restored a few hours later. - we had zero issues. Hands-down, our best VRBO experience.

A beautiful kitchen. There were no sharp knives, so we told the property manager. She had them sharpened for us, so be careful. They were sharp and lovely. We would definitely stay here again.

The house is really nice, and private. It's very clean and comfortable. The sounds of the frogs and others is very loud at night so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noises at night.

The property was well-stocked and situated in a beautiful natural setting. Mornings with fresh coffee on the wrap-around lanai were particularly memorable. We were grateful that the owner provided us with coffee, local fruits, beach & snorkeling equipments, towels - everything we needed to enjoy the island without having to pack extra. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, but there are some aspects worth noting for future guests. The loud bird chirping started in the evening, and we assumed it would stop before dark, but it continued until the next morning. It turned out it wasn’t birds at all, but frogs. The property is surrounded by Coqui Frogs, whose sounds can reach 100 decibels. At night, the sound is persistent and might make it difficult to rest, though we got used to it by the second night. The temp was around 80 when we stayed, but only the main bedroom had a ceiling fan. The second bedroom also did not have a window covering, so if you are planning to have your child sleep there, be aware of both the light in the mornings and the noise level from the frogs. As the description mentioned, there are a lot of bugs in the area because the property is nestled among many trees and natural surroundings, and some may find their way inside, so future visitors should be prepared for this. We found beetles in our blanket, but fortunately, there were plenty of extra blankets in the closet. Overall, this property offers a comfortable base for exploring the island.

Amazing property. Beautiful, quiet, private space. Very nice two bedroom unit with everything you need. We really enjoyed Koki, a sweet dog that would visit from time to time. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck and listening to the birds and frogs. We’d love to stay again.

The cottage was super cute! The owner communicated quickly and was so sweet! It was my first time to the Big Island and the location was a perfect location from the farm that my family live at. Check in process and check out process was super easy!

We loved Ohia Cottage! The area was quiet and private, but it was an easy drive to great food, coffee, smoothies and the beach. The view of the ocean from the deck was even better than we expected. We will definitely stay again! Thank you!

We love staying in the Captain Cook area, and this property was perfect! Well appointed, comfortable home with a great lanai. The coqui frogs will serenade you in the evening, chickens will do the same in the morning, and Kiko (a very friendly dog) will stop by to say hello once or twice a day. We will definitely hope to stay here again on future trips to the Big Island.

We were so fortunate to stay in such a beautiful house. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. It may not be for everyone, but we were looking for a quiet place far from resorts but close to good hiking and other sights. Most nights we cooked on the grill and relaxed on the awesome lanai. Having Kiko the dog visit on occasion was a bonus! I’m already looking forward to staying here next year.

We usually come to Hawaii or somewhere warm for a month somewhere. I’ve been coming to Hawaii all my life. This place was amazing. They had all the amenities you could possibly want if you forgot something they have it and then some it’s totally relaxing. don’t worry about bringing water or ice. They have it all! And they have the best beds to sleep on! You are you are also given wonderful coffee everything every amenity is there for you. You might need to bring your own cream, but you will be fine! Great restaurants nearby but if you wanna relaxing vacation, this is where you go!

My wife, son (13 years old) and I stayed and it was the perfect size for the 3 of us. Beautiful view of the ocean surrounded by fruit and macadamia nut trees. Recently renovated with new kitchen appliances. The outdoor deck/lanai was perfect for enjoying meals and coffee in the morning. You are in the country. About 10 minutes from restaurants and stores in Kona. About a 5 minute drive from the beach for snorkeling and exploring. Beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a unique Hawaiian stay in Kona country.

We enjoyed are stay at the Ohia Cottage. Pictures are accurate. There is no air conditioning which we knew when we rented the cottage. Fans through out the property. The cottage is surrounded by a lush tropical forest. With that being said, lots of spiders, insects, very vocal frogs and curious gecko’s! Not to forget the roosters and chickens. So, brings ear plugs to sleep. :)

Beautiful spot but could use a review by owner. Having a single mirror in only the bathroom made getting ready by all guests tough and the kitchen could benefit from a drip coffee machine but not a deal breaker since they provided a chimex with hot water pot. The welcome of Kona coffee and fruit was a very nice and kind touch. Would stay again.

Very well appointed, a lot of thought has gone into the complete renovation of this cottage. Clean and comfortable with a great vibe. Yes, there are more than a few chickens, but you are in the country in a lovely location. Would stay again without hesitation.
