Everything was wonderful!!Terri and Tim are great hosts!Horseback riding and Paniolo sunset dinner are must do activities. Can’t wait to stay again.
Clean and cozy lodging. Especially enjoyed the horses , sheep, and cattle on the green hills of this working ranch, visible from our windows. The kitchen was well equipped, and having a washer and dryer very much appreciated.
Great place to stay!Authentic
Host was very good communicator; directions, answering questions, etc.
We had a great time here, I only wish we'd stayed longer. This was a beautiful location and a wonderful place to stay. It was nice to see the ranch functioning around us and to see the horses, cattle and sheep.Teri and company were always available and helpful. I highly recommend staying here.
Beautiful and very clean. Cozy place and friendly hist family. Quiet night. Great sleep!
Just being there. The views, the quiet, the weather. All of it.
The Hale was clean and the hostess was great.
Our seven days here were perfect. People who may not give this place five stars must not have read the description or reviews. For the first time on the Big Island, we were able to sleep comfortably and even with a cover; it is cool and calm. Yes, there is basically no view from the home but just walk 200 feet and it is exceptional. Yes, there are cows and sheep and UTVs at time, and early, but you are on a ranch, in Hawaii, in paniolo country. You want bars and loud haoles and expensive dinners? Go to an overpriced resort. The closeness to Waimea, Hawi, and some great beaches really is a selling point. Most of all, the owners are kind and knowledgeable true locals, not greedy investors wanting a return at all costs. They actually want you to be happy on their ranch.
Absolutely phenomenal place to stay, there’s something magical about it that can’t easily be explained. The views were incredible. Terri was really great at communicating with us and gave us lots of tips to get the most of our stay and local recommendations for great food. Would highly recommend and would definitely come back again!!
Terri and Tim were awesome. Great place to enjoy the country and views
Such a beautiful property and location! This spot really captures the beauty of the Kohala coast. It is a more rural region away from the big resorts. With that comes the sounds of farm life and a more tranquil environment. Yet, access to beautiful beaches and hikes were not too far away. Thank you so much Terri and Tim!
Wonderful getaway spot in quiet Kohala. Terri was very helpful and gave us excellent guidance. The view from the yard and windows in the living room was awe inspiring! Such fun to be greeted by wandering horses!
Terri and Tim were fantastic hosts. It is a little out of the way but 100% worth the extra drive. We loved the comfort and privacy of the house. The layout of the venue is better in person. We loved the surrounding environment of the large ranch. Extremely peaceful place and a very unique experience. Highly recommended a stay with Terri and Tim.
This is the third time we’ve stayed and it’s always been a great experience,
Amazing property!!! Perfect for what my family and I needed! Close enough access to great beaches and snorkeling!
Such a beautiful place to enjoy! The location is a phenomenal jumping off point to some great beaches and the northern portion of the island. The beds were comfortable, the beach supplies were plentiful, and everything was clean. It was perfect for what we needed it for.
This is not a resort, thank goodness. It is a working Ranch. The Animals are real, and great you as you come and go. It was Heaven. Everything you need, including beach supplies. No need to visit Costco. Foodland is 15min away. We have been coming to Islands for over 20yrs, and this is the 3rd time to Big Island, our favourite. This will be the only place we stay for all future trips. 15min to great coffee, Surf Camp. 20min to Best beach, Hapuna.
We stayed for a few nights during a visit with family nearby. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our brief stay. It’s surrounded by trees that blow in the wind at night and provided amazing white noise for sleep. For those unfamiliar with the area, the elevation (3,000ft) means it’s cooler and wetter than below that level, which was perfect for us.
Loved staying at Terri’s place. Enjoyed seeing all the animals including a couple of different pheasants. Nice and cool in May. Little bit of rain, little bit of sun. We had a great time. Ever back on the north side of Moku o Keawe and we will be back. Mahalo.
We really enjoyed our short 2-night stay at the ranch. Terri was super communicative and available for any issues we had. The ranch grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed some evening stargazing while we were there. Would highly recommend.
Although the original plan was to stay a second time, plans change. Terri was as graceful as the first time, and worked with the situation for everybody involved. I will continue to appreciate hosts like this. Above and beyond!
Terri's place is simply amazing. The property is very tranquil and piecefull. We enjoyed having morning coffee watching the horses and sheep right out of the window. Terri was very helpful, friendly and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed every moment Hoping to come back soon.
The property is beautiful, peaceful. Together with comfortable accommadation, it is an oasis within paradise.
Terri is a welcoming attentive host as demonstrated by clear communications and complete inventory of all essentials required to provide for a comfortable stay. It was delightful to walk the property and take in the expansive views.
A ranch amongst the clouds with most spectacular dawn and sunsets. Take some time to walk on the road and say good morning to the horses, cows and sheep. Playful birds and a musical breeze through the pine trees. Itʻs an oasis.
We stayed for two nights with our three kids and absolutely loved this ranch property! The scenery is stunning and the owner is wonderful! Highly recommended!
This mountain ranch unit was a special experience. Great place to get away and relax yet only about 20 minutes from other activities we wanted to do. Close to Waimea and coastline on west side of island. Great hosts.
Our group of poets had a fabulous stay at the 'Ohana Hale in Kohala. The guest house had ample room for the all of us. The place was clean and beautifully decorated. The kitchen had the supplies we needed for our stay. The host, Terri was very helpful and easy to communicate with. Great stay. Highly recommend this location.
Gorgeous surroundings, brilliant stars, rainbows, lush green hills, peaceful, lovely interior, well supplied, comfotable beds, friendly and helpful hosts
Unique opportunity for tranquil ranch experience. Wonderful hosts and comfortable guest house accommodations.
Clean amd comfortable place with gorgeous scenic walks and beautiful ranch animals- definitely want to come back!
The house is spacious and contains plenty of amenities. The property manager was exactly the right level of friendly and helpful, but not overbearing or intrusive. The ranch where the house is located is expansive, and if we had a longer stay we surely would have explored more of it. Fantastic property, fantastic property manager, and fantastic experience overall.
Communication with the host was easy. She sent clear instructions. Check in was a breeze. The place was spotless. The kitchen was well appointed. The view was everything! The sunsets seem to last for hours. It’s a short drive to Waimea town and Hāpuna Beach, which are our favorites. I only wish we had more time here!
We absolutely love staying at the ranch. Terri and Tim are lovely hosts and I have never slept so well in my life. It is so peaceful and quiet and dark at night. You can walk about three minutes away to see incredible sunsets and vistas. It’s worth the beautiful extra drive versus staying closer in
High in the Kohala Mountains, with a landscape out of a Hayao Miyazaki film, is the Kahuā Ranch guest house. The wind whips over the mountains, thru the enormous pine trees, past a herd of horses, and towards the perfect sunsets of Kona. The accommodations are just as the owners described
Absolutely beautiful views and so many animals! Super quiet, peaceful, and immaculate. Only got to stay for one night but loved it!
Beautiful property.
If your after a resort experience look elsewhere. If your after more authentic Hawaii then this place will work. If you own a tractor, pickup and know why some shovels are square, the this is the really right spot. Nearest resteraunt is 10 miles away same with a store. Room service might be a while getting to you. Clean, heck of a view and completely adequate. Updated to 1990-2000 maybe newer. Everything works Terri and Tim are wonderful hosts.
Nice cottage with genial and responsive host. Pre-arrival communication marred by VRBO glitch, but we found it, and Terri was there to welcome us. Comfortable furnishings. con: No oven and no wine glasses.
Beautiful ranch in a great location. Had a lovely stay and would highly recommend!
We had an incredible time visiting with all of the animals and watching the amazing sunset.
We happened to hit the weather perfectly the one night we stayed at the ranch. Clear blue skies and green fields, the view is unbeatable. When we pulled into the ranch and drove up the hill we were greeted with roaming horses and a few cows, they actually blocked the road so we had to wait for them to move, we loved it! We found out Ohana house and it was just as described. We unpacked and then took a walk around the ranch. We met Terri and learned more about the ranch's rich history. After the sunset, we took some lawn chairs and walked up the road to Terri's lawn and watched the stars. I have never seen so many bright stars and some shooting stars. It was a wonderful stay, and I wish it could have been more than one night.
Staying amongst the
My family loved every bit of our stay in this special ohana. We spent 4 weeks at Kahua ranch and were able to see northern Kohala in nearly every kind of weather. Throughout the stay we have the best sleep, the freshest air, the most wholesome sounds to keep us company. The house had everything we could have wanted warm showered, cooking supplies to meet family dinners every night, 30 min door to beach in some of the best water access for our family to swim with turtles and in amazing tide pools. 100% recommendation. Brilliant hosts.
We love so much staying here. Kids were so exited to see many animals arround. Perfect place to cool down after hot beach days. Very safe, quite locations with perfect views.
Beautiful!
I absolutely loved our stay! The house is lovely and the owners are super friendly. The ranch is amazing and the house is a perfect place to unwind after a long day at the beach. The views around the ranch are spectacular and the sunsets are to die for! I look forward to returning.
Property is quiet, clean, and well stocked. Location worked well for us and can walk in the ranch to see beautiful views.
This was a perfect ending to our stay on the BI. We did a horseback ride with Na'alapa and the sunset BBQ which is on the same beautiful property. The house was very large and had everything you could ever need for ourl stay. The host was very accommodating and super helpful. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We all love North Kohala and now there is a way to enjoy it while visiting the Big Island! Terri was easy to work with, Kahua is lovely and the hale cozy.
This is the best rental we have ever experienced. Everything about it was perfect. The location is incredible. The views were amazing. I can wholeheartedly recommend this unit to anyone.
House: The Ohana Hale is super comfortable. It has a great cozy, cabin in the woods vibe. It's beside the owner's house. Teri is super helpful and nice and very responsive. There is a very nice, outdoor cat named Smudge, who doesn't go indoors. We also petted some very nice horses that we named The Triplets as the 3 were always together. Ranch property: You can literally walk to the Na'alapa Stables for a wonderful 1-2.5 h ride. The views are amazing just beyond the little wooded area. There are nearby hikes and the property is between Waimea and Hawi for restaurants. We loved our stay. It was so calming and peaceful.
Very clean well appointed space. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. The ability and freedom to explore the property allows you to experience on the some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen in my life. Highly recommend the Paniolo BBQ dinner hosted on site on Wednesdays and the on site horseback tour. Terry is a wonderful host! Clear and easy communication and most accommodating with everything! I can’t wait to come back to the Big Island so my family can come Back here and make more memories! Mahalo!!
The property is very well stocked with all the basic cooking supplies. We did not cook there but if we wanted to we certainly could. The rooms were nice sized and beds were comfy. The property is on a gorgeous ranch with stunning views of the ocean and mountains. We did the horse back ride along with staying there and received a discount. Highly recommend that as well. The hosts answered our questions in a timely manner and were very nice in person as well. Would highly recommend this property!!
The home was clean and comfortable on a beautiful ranch. The views are breathtaking. I wish we would have had more time and better weather to explore the ranch. The beach supplies and cooler were a great touch. My daughter was thrilled to have a boogie board to play in the ocean and it was nice to have chairs to relax on the beach. It has everything you could need and more.
Had an amazing time at this Hawaii ranch VRBO stay! The views were breathtaking, with visibility of other islands from the property and unparalleled stargazing. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, enriching our experience with the ranch’s fascinating history and maintaining the estate beautifully.
This is a comfortable, clean home with comfy beds on the north tip of the island, with an awesome nighttime stargazing opportunity because there are no exterior lights to distract from the sky. Hospitality is this host's priority which makes guests feel welcome like good friends/family. My family hopes to return to the island someday, and it would be a privilege to stay here again.
Beautiful and peaceful stay at the Ranch. This is a 7th Generation Family Ranch in the Mountains of the Big Island. If you like quiet, off the beaten path places this stay is for you! We loved it. It was my 5 year old, husband and I. We had fun walking the property with amazing views of the valley and seeing all the farm animals. Note—the elevation change is significant so the temperature is not the same as on the coast. We enjoyed that but is worthy to note for those that do not realize it. Its about 10-15 minute drive from town. Comfortable beds, washer dryer available, full kitchen, all was good!
Great getaway from city life
