Kahaluʻu Bay is just minutes away and is one of the island's best places for snorkeling. Calm, shallow waters and a sheltered reef make it a safe and colorful spot for beginners and seasoned snorkelers alike. Sea turtles are frequent visitors here, and you'll find vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical fish just steps from the shore. For surfers, the northern end of the bay offers a popular surf break where you can watch or join the locals riding waves.

Area

Kona / Keauhou
The sunny Kona District is famous for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant culture, and historic landmarks such as Huliheʻe Palace, Mokuʻaikaua Church, and Ahuʻena Heiau—all just about 8 miles south of Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport. Kona is also a hub for world-class deep-sea fishing, hosting the prestigious International Billfish Tournament each August, and is home to the iconic IRONMAN World Championship every October. In the cooler upland slopes, you'll find the legendary Kona coffee farms, where the island's most celebrated beans are grown.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of daily activities, from snorkeling, scuba diving, and paddleboarding to simply relaxing on the sand while spinner dolphins and Hawaiian green sea turtles pass by. Along lively Aliʻi Drive, explore oceanfront restaurants, boutique shops, and bars where you can take in stunning sunsets with a cocktail in hand.

Just south of Kailua-Kona lies Keauhou Bay, the birthplace of King Kamehameha III. This picturesque bay is perfect for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and snorkeling. By evening, it transforms into one of the island's most magical places, where manta rays glide gracefully beneath the surface—a truly unforgettable Big Island experience.

- The location is perfect. It's right on the ocean, a short walk to Kahulu'u Beach Park (excellent snorkling), and close to Kona.- The home is exceptionally well-appointed. The managers have thought of every detail in providing kitchen amenities, labels on the cupboards, cleaning and washing equipment, instructions, beach gear including boogie boards, etc.- The home has beautiful architecture that allows for full enjoyment of the outdoors. The front door opens up into an open courtyard with only tree branches above. The dining table, a sitting room, and lanai are outside but are covered by a roof. The kitchen/living room area is enclosed by floor-to-ceiling wood sliding doors that allow it to be opened up to let the cool ocean breezes through. The three bedrooms (each with A/C) are across the courtyard from the kitchen/living room.- The information provided by the managers was very helpful. The check-in was very smooth and they even allowed us to check in early when we asked.- There was only one negative aspect: mosquitos. Because so much of the house is outdoors, and because there were no screens in the kitchen/living room area, some family members ended up with a lot of mosquito bites even though we used the mosquito zappers and coils provided. We tried keeping the doors closed in the kitchen/living room area (which has a ceiling fan and two floor fans), but it felt hot so we opened them again.

This property is beautiful. The ocean view is stunning! The location is great- close to restaurants, shopping, grocery store, farmers market and more. The management company and property manager were very helpful and quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had. There were just a few minor things that kept me from giving a "perfect 5 star" rating. The front door was pretty tricky to operate and lock every time we left. While I understand that the "open concept" living will make it difficult to keep floors in the main area clean- our bathroom floors were very dirty the day we arrived- not sure if they were missed during cleaning?? There is an area rug in the master bedroom that is fraying and pieces are coming off and a corner is very raised causing me to trip every time I walked across it- it really should be replaced. Also, the bedroom on the "road side" of the house experienced loud traffic until about 1-2am every night. Again, overall, we enjoyed this property and would recommend it. The view alone was everything!!!

Online description misleading. There is a courtyard when you enter house. Every morning, you need to sweep out a ton of leaves as there is a big tree that stands over it. You have to wear your shoes or you’re walking on leaves everywhere. Also, no shade on the lanai. Bedrooms/bathrooms are good. Toilet doesn't flush properly in master bedroom. View is great, which is the best part. I wouldn’t recommend this house unless you are comfortable sweeping out a ton of leaves everyday.

Great stay! View of ocean unmatchable, surfers, kayaks, paddle boarders just south of the property. Kitchen and bedrooms were clean, well stocked kitchen, and nicely furnished. Only draw back is from 2-5pm the sun shines thru… it would be nice to have AC or a plan to do something else that time of day. Sunsets on the patio are fantastic.

Wonderful stay at Kona Hale Pili! First, we were greeted upon our arrival by DeeDee (and I apologize if I got her name wrong). She demonstrated how the locks work on all the doors and showed us the amenities of the home. She also left us a lovely welcome basket with local treats. We found the house very clean and VERY well organized. Everything was labeled and easy to locate. It was an ideal location for our family get together. Close to every activity we had scheduled. Our snorkeling tour of Kealakekua Bay and our Manta Ray Night Snorkel Tour both left from Keauhou Bay, less than 10 minutes away. We also snorkeled one morning at Kahalu'u Beach Park. Magic Sands Beach is also very close. Spent most of our afternoons just sitting on the lanai and gazing out at the ocean. Saw a beautiful sunset every night of our stay! Of note, there is no air conditioning, which might turn some people away, but you are able to open up the house with the numerous sliding doors to allow the tradewinds to blow through. That being said, it did get a little warm in the afternoons. We would, however, definitely rent this place again!

An amazing property. It was just the additional items that were in the pantry but you wouldn't think you needed salt pepper oil seasoning even down to Oliveira gel along with shampoos. Amazing today. Amazing property. Many thanks
